If you have any general questions, this would be the place to put them.  I'll update the FAQ here as necessary.

* * *

Q: Hornswoggle?  Jamie Noble?  Where the hell is my Big Show?!
A: Many superstars were unfortunately pushed to later sets.  This happened for a number of reasons, but is probably a result of one of the following:
1) They weren't actively wrestling at the time we capped the set
2) We had to thin the Superstar Values out so that we had some superstars in the 0-2 range.  It wouldn't do to have the premiere set be all 3+
3) We were trying to make the superstar abilities both thematic and rounded, so some superstars were pushed back to diversify the environment.

Q: Where is my support for Superstar X/Mechanic Y?  And why have you re-used a bunch of card names?  How is this going to integrate with my old stuff?
A: It's not.  We've always claimed to be a fresh take on the game you love, not an extension of it.  You're probably looking for Revo4, which is next door.

Q: Are the cards meant to interact with Revo/Classic?
A: Nope!  Everything you see here wasn't playtested externally, so though you could mix them with your older cards, it wasn't the intent.

Q: Will there be an aggression rule?
A: No.  At least, not one in the rules itself.  We'll see what the future holds for Pre-match, though...

Q: Why is the templating different than I remember?
A: We've endeavored to minimize card text by cutting extraneous words such as the 'Deck' in 'Backlash Deck', the 'Area' in 'Ring Area' and many instances of 'card titled'.  The presence of many of these words/terms is unnecessary and is partially responsible for why Raw Deal had cards with 12 lines of text.  I know it might take a bit of getting used to, but you'll thank us for it later.

Q: What are STYLE cards?
A: The short answer: They've replaced Face, Heel, Raw, Smackdown, Fan Favorite and Cheater.  Each gives you access to a handful of cards that you wouldn't have access to otherwise, as well as a slight ability.
The longer answer: Many of the aforementioned dichotomies were false, in that they didn't represent Sports Entertainment accurately; I'm sure you can think of some instances where a wrestler acted in both a face and heel manner, or competed on both Raw and Smackdown, etc.  The STYLE system more accurately represents what wrestling is like, and allows for many more deck combinations (72) than the previous system (8).

Wouldn'd a more accurate short answer for "What are STYLE cards" be "I played Smackdown vs Raw 2008"? XD

More accurate?  No.  More succinct?  Yes.

It's clear to see where the inspiration came from, though ^_^;;

Assuming things continue on as planned, these cards will be distributed in PDF form, and made to look exactly like the former Raw Deal Classic cards.

You'll be able to take the PDFs to a print shop and print a master set (3x non-Uniques, 1x Uniques) for around 50$.

UFC_Is_Better

Since you plan on releasing these in PDF format do you think it would be possible to release a PDF format that looks like raw deal cards and another PDF that is just a text version?

If all goes as planned, the PDF should look identical to the RDC cards you know and love.  Which means when you get them printed, if your print shop is of good quality you should have trouble telling the difference between old and new.

If we choose to mix these cards with our older cards (at our own risk, I know), are these titles the same or different?  Say, if I play Back to Basics, may I throw the NRD Punch under the card?  Or is it just like Revo where there will be a prefix to preclude them from interaction with past cards?
100% reason to remember the name.

Lucky for you...I am mighty.

CreedP

We'll figure something out, but since they aren't tested to work with AA, its entirely possible they won't be used - especially since AA just got 300+ new cards added with R4, heh.

Should you choose to mix these new cards with the old, the manner in which you do so is up to you and those you play with.  You can come to some kind of consensus with your mates regarding their playability.

Sanctioned tournaments won't sponsor mixing, especially since as CREED said, Revo4 is already adding a huge chunk to Old Raw Deal.

I love the fact that someone can go and print a whole playset for around $50, give or take. If someone wants to have more than one deck going ( and who really has only one deck at a time) they can either put them all in the same color sleeves and swap out the cards needed from one deck to the other, or they can make more copies of the maneuvers, etc minus the uniques and superstar specifics. This was well thought out and everyone can for the low price of $100 or less have the entire set of cards (maybe two) and all the deck protectors they will need. This is very newbie friendly and can revitalize the game. Will there be more expansions coming in the future? I hope so, at this price more people can play this as even a second to UFS, Magic, or any game they are playing. It will be easier to convince new people to start playing this at that kind of pricec as well.

I'm glad you're happy with the system.  We're quite happy about it as well ^_^

As for more expansions, as long as people are playing NRD, we'll be designing and playtesting new sets.  NRD2 began development about a month ago.

As a matter of fact...you may find a little taste of Set 2 around here in a couple of weeks, or at Gencon if all goes well...

I am curious, why did you guys choose to include so many superstars in the first set?

Ah, a very good question, and one with multiple answers.

For starters, we wanted to ensure that the tournament scene would have a lot of room to build and grow in its first six months, and giving people many options allows both a complex metagame and a lot of diversity.

Additionally, many people play Raw Deal because it allows them to play as their favorite wrestler(s).  Broadening the range of superstars in the first set means that more people will be able to use those characters they love.

There's a couple more reasons, but they're mostly balancing issues.  Let it be sufficient on that front to say that when Afterburn was released to the tournament scene, the number of superstars that it had was about double what we have here, and it worked quite fine...at least for a little while.

On a final note: You can expect future sets to have fewer superstars, as we have to allocate more spots to giving older superstars additional cards.

Got a quck question about the Backstage Style cards.  If a card has 2 style logos, must you be using BOTH styles to use that card?  For example:
068/300
Block
Reversal: Strike
You cannot pack this card if you are packing "Step Aside".
Reverse any Strike.
Draw 1 card.
(Technician) / (Brawler)
F: 0      D: 1
Do you need to be both a Technician and a Brawler?
Thanks
Bill

HXCDisciple

No, you only have to be one of the two to pack it.  You can be Technician OR Brawler and pack Block, no need to be both.
"eff it, I'm RVD, this will work, let's go." --RVD, just before his appearance on RAW 15.

Current decks I'm building:
Umaga
Rhyno
Educated Feet RVD
Sgt. Slaughter
Shoot Regal
Tazz

will you guys be making new versions of wrestlers as they change or will you take the revo approach and make storyline cards?

I think one of the worst questions asked during spoilers is 'What are you doing 3 sets from now?'  Look at THESE cards and go from there.  You can't play with cards that haven't even been conceived yet... ;)

Thanks for the answer, I think I am gonna like Technician/Submissionist, just cuz that is the style of wrestling I like to watch.  Second question:  can we see a few preview images? :)

I'm not sure what the future holds, at the moment.  We'll just have to wait and see!

Unfortunately, I don't think preview images are going to be an option.  We want the images to be the 100% best they can be, which is why we may be delayed until after Gencon.  Keep posted though; They'll be comin' eventually, even if we don't make Gencon!

Couple questions:
First one you may have already answered so I apolegize in advance. Since we are not having to deal with the whole liscensing thing; is there a possibility of seeing Superstars from other organizations in NRD?

Second one is more for clarification: Unlimited basically replaces the old set-up text and Unstoppable replaces the "cannot be reversed text," correct?

Thanks in advance and I anxiously await Monday for the beginning of the Superstars.

It is a definite possibility for the future.  In fact, you may just see some superstars currently wrestling in TNA in NRD2.

Just curious about something:
Is deck construction gonna be the same as Classic Raw Deal?  60 card arsenal, 10 Pre-Match, 10 Mid-Match and play 5 of each type of Backlash card?
