The users have spoken HERE that they want the 2008 Raw Deal Championships to be held at Gencon.

I have until the 25th to get the events registered. So I will run this poll until the 22nd. I would like to know what formats everyone wants to see represented so that I'm booking events people want to play in.

Each person can choose upto 6 Different options. Please place each vote in a different section, otherwise you're just messing up the results. When I say a vote in each different section, that means one vote in the Afterburn choices, not two or three. Pick what is most preferred by you.

No format will run more then once a day.
Not every format can run every day.

Definitions for the various formats are as follows:

  • All-Axxess is all the cards in Raw Deal, with all relevant errata as it stood when the game ended.
  • Afterburn is all the cards in Raw Deal that are legal for the Afterburn format as specified by Comic Images prior to the end of the game.
  • Revo Only is just Revolution Era cards
  • RDC = Raw Deal Classic - Only cards released prior to Revolution. Currently the Back Body Drop Errata will be reversed for this format. This reversal is subject to further discussion by the RDPC, and will be discussed at length throughout march.
  • Vengeance - is where certain cards are banned. That list is currently being reviewed by Ric Pittman, and will be finalized by the end of April, and will stand through the 2008 Championships, unless something glaringly unbalanced rears its  ugly head.

  • Alternate Format - If you vote for anything other then none please in this category, you are required to post specifying what alternate format, and if the rules have not been clearly set out or defined in somewhere that you can link to, you will need to post what the rules for the alternate format are.

If you know you are going to be playing in a non-raw deal event on a different day (or have a pretty good idea that you will be) and really want to be able to play in a specific format on day X, feel free to post that information below. The more input we have, the better we can ensure you can maximize your Raw Dealing at Gencon.

Thank you all for your input.

To the three FOUR Three SEVEN people who voted for an alternate format please post what alternate format they want?

Otherwise your votes are useless, because I'm not psychic, and don't know what Alternate formats you are wanting.

Thank you to everyone for voting. While the poll is open, if you change your mind on something, you are able to change your vote.

I wouldn't mind seeing a con long Hardcore event make an appearance again.

Wait a sec.

YOU'RE NOT PSYCHIC???

I'm shocked. Really  :P

Anyways, I voted for an alternative format, but I would like to suggest that format now. It's a format called "Auction of Champions". It's a format run in the Magic Invitational (or was at least).

The way it works is that we would do one of two things:

1. Gather decklists for decks that either won major tournaments or placed in the top four and build new decks
2. Have major tournament winners build new decks

We would then have everyone involved in the tournament "bid" on the decks by offering to start the game with cards from the deck in their Ringside Pile or some other form of bidding. Whoever wins a bid on a particular deck would get that deck for the tournament. After it's decided on who gets what, we would have a standard tournament.

I do see some logistical problems for bidding by starting the game with cards in the Ringside Pile, because a bad overturn in a game could doom you. There's also the fact that Andre the Giant and Shawn Michaels get more cards in their decks. I know that in Magic, players in the Auction of Champions bid by listing both how many cards will be in their opening hand and starting the game below 20 life. When someone bids by offering to start out with a smaller hand, it overrules any bids with more cards in hand, no matter what the life total named is. Similar to how when bidding in Bridge, any bid that proposes winning more tricks overrules any bid for a lesser number of tricks, regardless of whether a trump in a higher suit or no-trump has been named. If a way can be figured out as to how to do bidding for a Raw Deal Auction of Champions, I think it would be a good alternative format.

Hardcore 24/7 could definitely make a return. But I don't think we'd need to do it as a qualifier.
Additionally if we book the Raw Deal space correctly, we could probably do the event without having to pay the Gencon Entry fee, since it wouldn't officially need to take up Gencon space.

CRASHER

24/7 Would be cool
but I was kinda thinking Tornado Tag myself when I voted for it... doesn't have to be one of the Q's but the idea and format just seems too damned fun if the right combos are banned like they seem to be in the rules here... let's ya bring something a lil wacky to the weekend also
Thanks to the much hated Revolution Format and Roman Reigns' spear I beat three other folks to be your current Raw Deal Champion and the "most irrelevant one in history" ...yay me :)

The Hurricane

Quick question since I hadn't played in any previous Hardcore 24/7 deal.

Do you have to pack foreign objects? I personally think it should be a rule that you at least need to pack 1 foreign object.

any chance at some sort of limited play?  sealed deck, booster draft, raw draft, or whatever else, i'd be interested

wouldn't necessarily need to be a qualifier maybe just side events each nite?

Not at all. Hard Core 24/7 Means that's how long the tournament goes for. When you sign up, until the final moments of the con.

Any time you're challenged, you can play your opponent with a style of deck that you both can agree to. You don't have to use the same deck for the entire tournament.

These are very brief rules... I'll post more later.

Currently I have some starter decks that were provided by Monkey that will be used for the annual Drunken Raw Deal pod on Saturday night.

Part of the challenge with this is having the sealed Raw Deal Product. Seeing how many retailers usually have some Raw Deal they're selling off for $25 a box, I don't see this being too much of a challenge to arrange. However it will be haphazard, and players will have to discuss it, as I don't want some poor guy (or girl) buying a bunch of old Raw Deal product, and then getting stuck with it, when everyone goes "Diva's Overload! That's Ass! I don't want to draft it!"

royal rumble format would be sweet.

Neil Swints version that's posted here on TCO? Or a different version?

In my opinion at least one has to be AA, I also believe that exactly one should be Revolution. The third day is a toss up. If it's Velocity, the new list has to be clarified though (and if we don't update it, then I think it's a fairly useless format).

Remember, there is going to be 3 Qualifiers a day.

3 on Thursday,
3 on Friday
3 on Saturday
World Championships on Sunday

There will be 9 Qualifiers total.

If people are concerned about time, keep in mind that:
A) Tournaments will be starting on time, rather then running on BVT time.
B) Rounds will be 30 minutes each.

So in Four hours, if we get less then 40 Entrants (which is I think the most we got last year when the game was still in publication), 6 rounds of Swiss, delivers a top 8 or top <Less then 33 people> 16 cut as necessary. <33 people or more>

So if they're timed to be going at:

Noon, 5pm, 11pm Thursday
10am 3pm 9pm Friday
10am 3pm 9pm Saturday

We easily get them all in.

That's assuming we're actually hitting 40 people a tournament.

I'll be happy if we're hitting 20.

BTW - Multi-Judge rules will be in effect for the qualifiers so that the Organizers can play if they want. Because from the way it looks locally, I'm not going to get to play any Raw Deal until Gencon.

My mistake, I actually read that yesterday, but then totally forgot it when I voted today. In this format, I think AA should clearly be everyday, and I'd like to see Revo twice, and for the other 4... mix it up (I'm changing my vote to reflect this momentarily).

As for the schedule, is it the consensus that we should mix up which format goes in which time, or, for example, keep AA at the same time each day? I can see arguments for both. I guess we can cross that bridge later.

Edit: YES on Hardcore. So much fun. Not for a qualifier though, so it goes all weekend. Maybe for some sort of prize, but mostly for pride, and most importantly, fun. I still have like 100+ Hardcore Tokens from Kwame's rampage a few years back at both Origins and Gen Con, and I think Witte might have gave us his after it was over (him and Kwame both had 25+ at Origins, and Kwame got 50+ at Gen Con that year, not to mention the other years they did it)... I really have no idea where they are, but if I can find them, I'd donate them for it.

If people have a preference one way or another I'd ask them to speak now, or forever hold their piece, because I have to get the times and such booked into Gencon before the 25th.
The more information I have, the better I can book everything.

Negleyjj

I really have no preference, I don't play any other games. I'd go just to walk around the dealer's room, demo games, maybe do some drafts of games I know how to play, and in general waste money... but everything could pretty much be based around Raw Deal. Though I'm sure this is an issue for some... so, as the man said, speak now, or forever hold your peace.

Honestly, I'll play any format we set up.  I've not deliberately made an AB deck yet, so that may be an issue, but...all others, sure.  The Rumble format would be interesting, to say the least.

Is that the Chapter 11 Bankruptcy bit?
It's surf controlled at work so I can't read it.

However after the Lucas Legal filing for 1,000,000 it doesn't surprise me.

Hardcore 24/7 could definitely make a return. But I don't think we'd need to do it as a qualifier.

Just as a warning, the last time we tried to do a HCT 24/7 event it got so ridiculous with people just signing over tokens to each other vs. playing matches, using token then had left over from previous events so we had more token turned in then we handed out, etc.  Basicly everything that could have gone wrong did go wrong.

[And before asked, the prizes weren't that big for this event anyway]

In end, the judge I had running this decided that the player with the #3 most tickets was actually the winner, and then went up the list in reverse order.

Cool, thanks for the heads up.

I've been running H/C 24/7's for UFS and Raw Deal without tokens, and with a slightly modified Rules set, that I'll show everyone at a separate point in time, and see if everyone is cool with it.

The Softcore Legend

There was a format we ran in Davenport IA that was some of the most fun I've had at a Raw Deal Tournament.

It was called: Road to Wrestlemania!

The rules were no one could Play a Venue, Pay-per-view event, or a Stipulation, and that You couldn't effect Venues or Stipulations in play in any way.

Each round was a pre-determined different Venue and a different Stipulation. that both players had access to.  It turned out to be really fun, and the decks were not broken NPE's due to the variation in the rounds.  It really felt like you were "on the road to wrestlemania".  The final round of finals has Wrestlemania in Play for both players to activate.

If this sounds interesting, Bryon Rickertson had the rules all written out, and I'm sure he would share it with us if we are intersted.

MediumSexy

I had to make a chart in order to decide. If anyone is interested, this is what I felt would be cool:

Thursday    Friday         Saturday
All Axxess    All Axxess    All Axxess
Revolution   RD Classic    Velocity
Alt Format   Alt Format   Alt Format

Also, along the lines of an Alternate Format, I'd DEFINITELY like to see "Tornado Tag"... Creed and the others seem to have worked on the rules for this format alot and it opens up enough options, it's like a breath of fresh air. (You're basically CREATING a new superstar by putting two abilites together and averaging a hand size and superstar value)

All Axxess is my favorite format hands down. Nothing banned, but also brings NPE's galore.

Velocity I am hoping will fix that. Hopefully we can all come up with an agreeable list to balance the format as much as we can. I believe we can make "Velocity" what "Afterburn" should have been.

Also among the "Alternate Formats", I would like to see "Battle Royal" (Using the Multiplayer rules posted on CI.com - with NO banned superstars for this format.) Back when I had my store open, this format breathed ALOT of new life into the game. Especially for the casual players. While it doesn't lend itself to a "qualifier" format (being more "political" than strategy) it is quite fun, and I would love to see it in some side events at the very least... (A "tournament" using this format would definitely have to be run in "multiplayer pods" where the winner of the table would advance to the next table, and so on and so forth until one winner remained from the final table. Good fun, though, at any rate.

Anyways, Thanks for my chance to vent. Now, I've got some other stuff to take care of, like getting ready for my first ever WoW tcg tournament (a Darkmoon Faire Championship at that, for those of you in the know.)

Personally I think Revoltion and AA have to be everyday, then a 3rd alt format.

I won't makethe trip to gen con for 1 revo tourney

Merlin

Yeah, there really needs to be more than one Revo event. I can't stomach All-scoop-Axxess all weekend long without more Revo in the mix to be honest... :(
