Although formal entry into the Beta team is closed, anyone who thinks they deserve a spot can feel free to send me an application, which will be forwarded on to some of my associates for character references.

Please keep in mind that come set 2 and onwards, the number of these positions will be lowered.  The reason we're taking so many now is to create a sense of competition to determine those who best rise to the challenge at hand.

We're going into 0.2 this weekend, which means probably another 2-3 weeks before we hit Beta.

Cheers,

The worst part about being in charge of a project like this is when you're actually playing a game, you can't say "God, who designed this crap?!" when you start getting beat around the head.

...dammit.

Whats the breakdown of the cards? As in how many maneuvers, antics and reversals. Are there gonna be actions? And I assume the rarity are all equal right? Meaning all cards are worth putting in the deck? How about superstar cards? What superstars are coming out? Or you guys can't tell yet?

CreedP

See - if we answer your questions, then we have to answer Bob's questions.  Then we have to answer Jimmy's questions.  Then we'll have to answer John's questions.

Pretty soon, we're telling everyone everything, and then comes the random input.  'You know what you should do?  You should make Mohammad Hassan!' or 'You should have flaming tables in the game!', and then we can't properly diagnose the cards because we're too busy explaining to people why this or that is or is not being done.  :)

Just like everyone else, please just sit tight for now, when the time comes, the information will be revealed.  :)

Quite true, Creed, but one question he asked has been answered already, so I'll reiterate for you guys.

Your assumption is correct. There is no rarity anymore. The full set will be released at the same time to everyone, so you can have as many copies of anything you like as you want.

Playing on OCTGN? I'm on US Eastern Time; you can check what time it is for me here.

CreedP

Shoot, thanks, I meant to touch on that and it slipped my mind.  You are 100% correct, sir!

Hey, I have settled for barbed wire tables instead..  :D

But honestly, card #35 is good enough for me for now.  heh

Ok. Just excited thats all.. I've always been a casual player and never had TKs or power rares. I don't even own Revolution of the Mind :P The thought of having a full playset of cards now is just good...

I guess the challenge now for you guys is to make every card equally usable. Btw, how abt a Virtual Raw Deal FAQ?  ;D

CRASHER

so dumb question which doesn't have to be answered now of course

how does a no rarity set affect JBL??
Sounds like a BIG push, since it doesn't hit his drawback
Thanks to the much hated Revolution Format and Roman Reigns' spear I beat three other folks to be your current Raw Deal Champion and the "most irrelevant one in history" ...yay me :)

Go check the general news section on TCO's frontpage for more information on stuff like this.

To make a long story short: Although the set will be backwards compatible, we're not working with backwards compatibility in mind (for reasons listed in said news post), and Organized Play won't include your older cards.  On the upside, you'll probably see a number of cards reprinted that you've owned or wanted to own at some time.

Just think of this as a Survivor Series style set.

So for example, playing with these cards at gencon, will decks consist JUST of this set or of all sets including this one?

is it a Revolution-style of set where it works with the the old stuff but isn't meant to be played with the old stuff, or a Survivor Series-style set where it's a best of?

don't take the wrong tone out of that last question, either one is a good idea IMO when your dealing with a Virtual set in the way that there is no rarity.

I always feel bad when put on the spot with this kind of question, as even if you don't mind either of the above ideas there are those who do.  Our course has long been set, however, so I'll answer as best I can.

If you're looking for the full explanation of what we're doing and why, you may wanna check that news post I mentioned above, which can also be found by clicking here:

If you don't care to read such a lengthy piece of philosophical drivel, the short answer is that the new cards CAN be played with the old cards, but weren't DESIGNED with the old cards in mind.  The justification(s) for this can be found in the above post.

As mentioned previous, however, some cards which you're accustomed to or are fundamental/important parts of Raw Deal as you remember it have snuck in to this set, so in that way it's somewhat of a Survivor Series set.

Omg... this has to be the best thing for casual players...

Update: We're finalizing one last card before we go to 0.3 for final review this weekend.  Assuming all goes according to plan, we'll be moving to 1.0 Beta in the first couple of days of next week.

Although Beta testers will be given access to the documents and forums at this time, if you plan on playtesting immediately you're going to have to make your own proxies.  Going to Beta a week or two earlier than expected means that we don't have the formal PDF proxies ready, so you'll have to be creative.

In my case, I simply memorized the set and then wrote card titles on old copies of Night Soil from Fallen Empires.  I recommend this method for everyone.

But, the saprolings, Bryson! Think of the saprolings! =D

When I was doing proxies, I printed plain-text versions of the cards in MS Word, 8 pt. font, in 3 columns. It made them, more or less, the size to fit in a standard sleeve in front of any proxy slug.

Well, we theoretically have a proper proxy template incoming, hailing from the days we used to playtest RDC.  Hopefully we can sort it out in the next week or two so no more saprolings need to die than is strictly necessary.
