Tournament Announcements / Re: 2nd OCTGN Frankenstein Tournament
« on: July 16, 2021, 06:05:15 PM »
As announced over in the Discord, the following revisions to Superstar cards and specifics might require consideration when deciding on a deck, so we are spoiling these changes early. These are not the only revisions to come, but they are the most salient for Frankenstein deck construction.

Finlay
Starting Hand Size: 5     Superstar Value: 2
Superstar Ability:  Your Maximum Hand Size is 5, and it is +1 for each non-hybrid non-reversal maneuver in your Ring.
When your opponent successfully plays a card, you may draw 1 card.  At the end of any player’s turn, when the number of cards in your hand is greater than your Maximum Hand Size, put cards equal to the difference from your hand on the bottom of your Arsenal.  When your turn ends without attempting to play a maneuver, those cards are discarded instead.

Jack Swagger
Starting Hand Size: 8     Superstar Value: 2
Superstar Ability:  When you successfully play a maneuver, reveal the top card of your opponent's Arsenal.  When it is a maneuver, search your Arsenal for 1 non-Superstar-specific maneuver, reveal it, put it in your hand, and shuffle.  When it is an action or an antic, draw 1 card.  When it is a non-hybrid reversal, remove it from the game, and after damage has been applied by your maneuver, end your turn.
When your maneuver is successful, RFG the top card of your opponent's Arsenal. When that card is a maneuver, Arsenal Search 1 non-Superstar-specific maneuver without "reverse" in the text.  When it is an action or an antic, draw 1 card. When your Superstar-specific Pre-match card would be moved from your Ring, you may instead move 1 other Pre-match card in your Ring.
V3

The Sexy Beast
Starting Hand Size: 6     Superstar Value: 5
Huge Rock Star Ability: You may pack I Have a Major Announcement in your Backstage Area, but you may not pack it in your Backlash. It is not Fan Favorite, and it cannot be blanked; at the end of the Pre-match phase, put that card in your Ring, ignore the 'You cannot play...' text, and the number of cards discarded to shuffle is reduced to 0.
Your opponent resolves first at the end of the Pre-match phase, regardless of Superstar Value.
You may pack Chris Jericho cards.
V1

New Age Outlaws
Starting Hand Size: 4     Superstar Value: 4
Tag Team Superstar Ability:  Once during each of your turns, when you have 5+ lower Fortitude, you may RFG 4 Hand cards, and when your next card played this turn is a non-Unique maneuver, it is blank for the rest of the turn and can only be reversed from Arsenal.
You can pack B.A. Billy Gunn and/or Road Dogg cards, except Rico Enters!; they are not Smackdown. You cannot pack any Title Belts except the Tag Team title belts; you cannot pack Corners or 'blank', 'brass', 'parts', or 'ring psychology' cards.

The Rockers
Starting Hand Size: 6     Superstar Value: 2
WWF Tag Team Superstar Ability: Each turn, your first Strike or Grapple played after successfully played maneuver is instead a High Risk, Multi, and +3D.
Your Perennial Fan Favorites are Superstar-specific.
You can pack High-Flying Style, Tag action cards, and Tag maneuver cards; those cards are Multi.  You may not pack any Title Belts except the Tag Team Title Belts.

The Heart Break Hotel
Pre-match Event
Cannot be blanked. Can be played during the Venue phase
Before each of your Draw Segments, reveal your bottom Arsenal card. When it is a High Risk, put it into your hand; when it is not, shuffle it into your Arsenal and draw 1- cards.

F: 0     D: 0     Unique     WWF Classic logo     Permanent

Kairi Sane
Starting Hand Size: 7     Superstar Value: 2
Superstar Ability: Once per turn, when your maneuver is reversed you may RFG 1 Backlash card; if you do, do not draw for Stun Value, and then continue your turn.
Your Ax Kick is F: 0, +2D, and Unique.
You can pack High-Flying Style and Tree of Woe Double Stomp, and Unique Multi maneuvers, but you cannot pack Evening Gown Match or maneuvers that are Chain, Heat, or Volley.

Becky Lynch
Starting Hand Size: 6     Superstar Value: 1
NXT Diva Superstar Ability: When you successfully play a card with 'precision' in the title, put up to 2 non-reversal cards from your Ringside on the bottom of your Arsenal.
When you have equal or lower Fortitude, your maneuvers with 'precision' in the title are considered Unique for your opponent's cards and effects.
You cannot pack Dynamically Inclined.

Unstoppable Forces of Nature
Backstage Card Pre-match Event
Cannot be blanked.
Arsenal / Ringside Search 10- "Splash" cards and put them under this card.  At the end of the Pre-match phase, put 1 of those cards into your hand and shuffle the cards under this card into your Arsenal.
Do not discard or move Superstar-specific cards from your Ring for reversals to your Activated Card Effects.
Once during each of your turns, you may reveal 1 "Splash" card in your hand, and then Bury it and your opponent Buries 1 Hand card.

Virtual Raw Deal / Re: The Pounce? for Keith Lee?
« on: July 12, 2021, 05:56:04 AM »
It's worth noting that, since Virtual All Axxess isn't a popular (or balanced) format, and the dev team has limited resources for playtesting and design, we've made a conscious decision not to create cards with VAA in mind. Cards are either designed for Virtual Classic or Virtual Revolution, and you're not likely to see VC cards with VR-only logos or vice-versa going forward. Cor Von isn't coming back to WWE, therefore he almost certainly won't ever be designed for Virtual Classic, so there was no point in putting his logo on the Pounce. Should that change, we could either design a throwback specifically to work with his design, which would be a better card for him anyway, or gate the card in by giving him packing permission in his ability.

Tournament Announcements / 2nd OCTGN Frankenstein Tournament
« on: July 09, 2021, 01:22:52 PM »
The next OCTGN Raw Deal tournament will be a Frankenstein tournament, with a live draw at an as yet undetermined time.

Frankenstein tournaments work a bit differently than a standard event. Rather than selecting a superstar directly, players will be constructing decks with a given Superstar and Backstage, a different superstar's Backlash specifics, and a third superstar's Arsenal specifics. These three superstar assignments will be made with the assistance of a randomizer.

Process:
1 ) The player will receive a choice of two random superstars; they will use the selected superstar's face card and any Backstage cards. Note that this is specifically the superstar you are given: The Second Coming's logo does not appear on World Tour 05, so he does not receive permission to pack those.

2 ) The player may reject both options; if they do, they will be given the next superstar off the top of the deck. They MUST use that superstar, and cannot revert back to one of the rejected options.

3 ) This process will repeat for Backlash, and finally for Arsenal. Again, at any stage, a player may decline their two choices, but they will be locked into the next choice off the top of the deck, sight unseen. As before, you receive only those cards with that superstar's logo; The 8th Wonder of the World TB only allows the packing of Giant Braintrust in the Arsenal, not all Andre cards.

4 ) The player will then build a standard Virtual Classic deck using these specifics instead of the specifics normally packed by their Superstar. This applies to any superstar with blanket packing permissions from an Ability, as well: The People's Champ, who normally may pack cards with the Rock logo, may not do so unless the player chooses The Rock in another draw. HOWEVER, any superstar card that gives specific packing permission for individual cards may pack that card, and any non-Ability packing permissions are allowed. Nidia is specifically permitted to pack Tough Enough in her ability; she may do so. She may also pack Jamie Noble-specific non-maneuver, non-Backstage cards except Nidia Interferes, due to the text on Jamie Noble is in My Corner. Cards referencing NAMED SUPERSTAR-specific cards will apply only to Superstar-specifics for the named superstar, so a card referencing Goldberg-specific cards will only interact with Goldberg-specific cards.

5 ) Any superstars not chosen will be returned to the randomizer deck for other players' consideration, however once a superstar has been chosen for any of a player's three slots, that superstar cannot be assigned again.

6 ) For fairness, if a player receives only superstar options with 0 or 1 card in the given zone, they may discard both options and receive a new set of options; however, this replacement will not apply if the player has chosen the random topdeck option. Similarly, for fairness, Gail Kim & Molly Holly will be a valid selection for SUPERSTAR ONLY, and MVP will be a valid selection for SUPERSTAR AND ARSENAL ONLY. Should one of those superstars be drawn for an invalid zone, they will be replaced for free.

7 ) Players present at the live draw will draft in the order of their signup in this thread; anyone who cannot be present can make arrangements for a draw at a mutually agreeable time after the live draw is complete.

8 ) Selections are public knowledge, and will be reported here when the draw is complete.

Rules Forum / Re: Pre-Match Phase Order
« on: June 03, 2021, 11:28:46 PM »
The play and pack limits differ depending on whether you are playing Classic or Virtual.

In Classic, you may pack 10 Pre-match cards and 10 Mid-match cards, and you have 5 slots available to play each (though this number can be modified throughout the game.)

In Virtual, the limits are raised to 12/12 for packing, and 6/6 for playing. This is to accommodate an additional type of Pre-match card.

The phases of the Pre-match in Classic are as follows:

Venue
Feud
Stipulation
Manager
Events (and everything else that isn't one of the above)

In Virtual, there is also the Allegiance phase, which goes before the Venue.

As to whether multiple Venues can be played, there are some cases where you may, and some where you may not. Venues are (exclusively in Classic, IIRC; less so in Virtual) Universally Active, which means only one card of that subtype may appear in any Ring. Once a player has played a Venue, no others can be played.

In Virtual, there are cards like Hometown Hero that allow you to circumvent that rule, for a price; there are also Unique Venues, that, if they are played first, do not block the other player from playing a Universally Active Venue. (This does not work in the other direction; once a UA Venue is down, you need another means of getting around the rule, again like Hometown Hero.)

Fantasy Cards / Re: Dominick Mysterio
« on: May 27, 2021, 07:45:53 AM »
Don't worry, Bury's new, too. It's a term we're starting to use with the soon-to-be-released V12, and means "put (whatever specific cards are mentioned) on the bottom of your Arsenal."

The old wording of Dominick's ability would be:

Dominick Mysterio
SHS: 6
SSV: 1
Superstar Ability:
When you successfully played a High Risk, put 2 Ringside cards on the bottom of your Arsenal.
When you unsuccessfully played a High Risk, opponent puts 1 Hand card on top of his Arsenal and you draw 1 card.

Tag Team Shenanigans
Backstage Card
Can only be packed when packing Tag cards for your Ability.
You are both the active and inactive player, your opponent is also the inactive opponent.
When you 'tag in', 'tag out', 'tag', or you change the active player, put up to 1 card from your Ringside on the bottom of your Arsenal, and you are considered not to have played any cards this turn.
Your opponent's reversals are unaffected by your Surprise Hit cards.
Unique     RMS logo

THE USOS
Starting Hand Size: 6     Superstar Value: 2
Tag Team Superstar Ability: When you successfully play a Superstar-specific card or a card with 'Tag Team' in the text, draw up to 1 card.
You can pack up to 4 copies of non-Throwback Elbow Smash, Forearm Shot, Running Elbow Smash, Spinning Heel Kick, Superkick, Body Slam, Double Leg Takedown, Double Underhook Suplex and Samoan Drop cards. You can pack A Family Legacy, and it gains your logo. You cannot pack any Title Belts except the Tag Team Title Belts.

The bolded line on Tag Team Shenanigans is the key here. "a card with 'Tag Team' in the text" is not a "Tag card." A card with the Tag logo is a Tag card, and nothing about the Usos permit them to pack Tag logo cards, so they cannot pack Tag Team Shenanigans either.

Virtual Raw Deal / Re: V12 "Spoilers": New Keywords
« on: May 19, 2021, 11:21:56 AM »
Champ, respectfully, Supershow is a game that uses bury as a keyword for putting a card under (the arsenal/the deck/another card or location). Not the only, not even the originator. I've been using the term in card games since before Supershow existed. And I know it's in the rule book, I edited that rule book. I was involved back then, too. No disrespect intended to SRG or any other card game company, we're just trying to make our free to play fantasy cards a little easier to read.

The reason we wouldn't say "I'm gonna tap Wrestlemania" is because Hasbro owns a trademark on the term tap in card games, and getting sued is nobody's idea of a good time. That's why nobody else uses that one.

Virtual Raw Deal / V12 "Spoilers": New Keywords
« on: May 17, 2021, 07:00:59 PM »
V12 is... well, not upon us, exactly, but impending, and we have reached a point where the set has largely taken shape. One such element of the set taking shape is that we have decided to institute two new, somewhat related keywords for common actions taken in the game. We already have three keywords interacting with the Arsenal: draw, overturn, and Search. (I'll grant that two of those are so integral to the game that they don't feel like keywords at all, but technically, they are; the third wasn't officially keyworded until very recently.) There are at least two more major Arsenal interactions that have not been keyworded yet, but we feel the time is now to do so, for the sake of simplifying card text going forward. These two actions, as mentioned, are related: putting cards on top of your Arsenal, and putting cards on the bottom of your Arsenal. Say hello to Bury and Stack.

Bury is a keyword you might have seen in other games, and as in other games, it means "put cards on the bottom of your Arsenal." It's a flexible keyword, so you will see some explaining text along with it. This is a much easier concept to understand when you see it in action, so here are a few cards from Raw Deal's past that, if developed today, would use Bury.

Action: Run-in

During the Pre-match phase, no player may move cards from his opponent's hand, Backlash, or Ring with non-Superstar-specific cards; reduce his opponent's Starting Hand Size or Pre-match Capacity; or force his opponent to overturn cards.
After all Pre-match phases, put # random cards from your hand on the bottom of your Arsenal, where # is equal to twice the number of Pre-match slots you have filled above 5.
F: 0     D: 0     Unique

Stack is Bury's counterpart, and as you might expect, it means "put cards on top of your Arsenal." Again, as with Bury, there is some flexibility with Stack, so it will always come with an explainer as to what cards are being stacked, and hether it happens randomly or in an order of your choice. Here are a few cards with modern wordings, using Stack.

Double Underhook Back Breaker

Grapple
Can only be played when you have 3 or more cards in your hand.
When successfully played, put 2 cards from your hand on top of your Arsenal.

The two keywords can be used in conjunction, too, when you have the choice of putting cards on top or bottom:

Shelton Benjamin
Starting Hand Size: 7     Superstar Value: 3
Superstar Ability: When your opponent reverses a card, you may shuffle 1 card from your Ringside pile into your Arsenal. When you successfully play a maneuver, search the top 5 cards of your opponent's Arsenal for 1 card, remove it from the game, and put the rest back on the top or bottom of his Arsenal in random order. You may pack the card titled It's All About the Benjamins.

You will start seeing Stack and Bury in use on cards starting in V12, and they will be used consistently going forward. If you have any questions about how they work, please feel free to ask, and the dev team and I will be happy to explain.

Correct. Unlike the Backlash deck, where you are limited to 12 Pre-match and 12 Mid-match (10/10 in Classic), there is no hard limit on the number of cards packed in the Backstage.

Backstage cards are not limited; you may reveal as many of them as you choose to pack (obviously, bearing in mind packing limitations; male superstars may not pack Feminine Wiles, and Doink is forbidden Dynamically Inclined, for two examples.) Note that unless you have specific permission (Test's ability or the text on World Tour '05, for example), you may only pack 1 copy of each different Backstage card.

OmniFAQ to the rescue.

Title Belt
-A 'title belt' is a Pre-match Object card designating a title belt, such as WWE Championship Belt. This includes The Million Dollar Title Belt.
-The first three Title Belt cards were printed before the Backlash deck was introduced, they were later updated with a Most Recent Printing to be Pre-match Objects.
-Title Belt cards not printed as Universally Unique are still considered to be Universally Unique.

Title Belt cards are not required to have the words "Title Belt" in the title; they simply have to represent a belt.

Ooh, this reminds me of another case.

So, I'm a big fan of Parts Funknown/Wrestletalk's Quizzlemania series, which as the name suggests is a wrestling quiz show. They've been running for going on 27 episodes now, and one of their recurring bits is The Price is Shite, where the contestants have to guess how much given bits of wrestling memorabilia cost on eBay, or WWEShop.com, or w/e. Well, the host ended up playing one episode, and losing, and his hair was on the line if he lost. The episode after saw the debut of Smooth Adam, and the Price is Shite featured Molly Holly's Bald is Beautiful as one of the items to guess the price of.

Quizzlemania X-8

I recommend the whole series (there's one episode taken down because it featured someone implicated in Speaking Out, but everything else is up there, and it is amazing), but seeing Raw Deal on an ep was awesome. No spoilers as to who guessed right, or how much, though; if you're curious, you'll have to watch.

Virtual Raw Deal / Re: Carrying all the gold question
« on: February 01, 2021, 08:54:32 AM »
You are right....but I'm not sure if it having "Raw" in the title qualifies for it being eligible for carrying all the gold (that aside it's not a good pack for Evo anyway)

No, it does not. Evolution may only pack Raw-branded belts; to include that belt, the phrase would have been "When you are Evolution, you can only pack Raw or "Raw" Title Belts."

Rules Forum / Re: High-Flying Style
« on: January 23, 2021, 07:26:04 PM »
Your "Rana" Strikes become High Risk everywhere as soon as HFS is played. In order for it to be otherwise, there would have to be a timing clause on it, such as "When played," which would limit it to being HR during the Timing Breakdown only, or "When packing this card," which would make them High Risks for packing purposes.

So, yes, it's a High Risk in the Arsenal, and when you play it, not only can you search for a High Risk, you have to. It's not a Strike anywhere at that point, so Strikes (at least, Strikes that aren't also High Risks) are not valid targets to find with his ability.

Rules Forum / Re: Beating the Odds
« on: January 23, 2021, 07:01:46 PM »
No worries. You're right; I did forget to circle back to this one.

The entry for Beating the Odds in the Omni is incorrect. While Redemption has received errata to convert it to the intended reversal restriction (as opposed to the play restriction printed on the original card), Remove the People's Elbow Pad remains a play restriction. Beating the Odds does not remove the play restriction from RTPEP.

We'll add that to the list of things to correct in Omni v4.1.

I just responded to your PM about this, but since it may be a helpful reminder for others, I'll paste the reply here.

I'm going to start by pasting Doink's text here, because it's a good idea to have card text to refer back to.

Your opponent’s non-F:0 cards are +1F for every card in your Backstage area.

If you're asking about Shenanigans cards, I presume you're playing Virtual. (The answer changes if you're talking about regular backstage cards in Classic.) If you are playing Virtual, then it is highly likely that at least one player has revealed the card Defeating Villainous Shenanigans, which was released in Virtual 7, and reads as follows:

Quote
    Defeating Villainous Shenanigans
    Backstage Card
All players' Stun the Crowd and Straight-Shootin' Interview cards are Active, and are not considered to have 'shoot' in the title for their cards' effects.
Any player's Superstar-specific cards do not count for Your Town.
When any player is Doink, cards with 'shenanigans' in the title are not considered to be in his Backstage Area for his Ability.

That last line means that, when you use Doink's ability, "Shenanigans" cards are treated as though they are not there. They do not increase the fortitude of your opponent's cards, whether they are in the Backstage or not, because they are considered not to be there. However, moving cards from the Backstage is part of his ability, too. That means that if the only cards in your Backstage are Shenanigans cards, Doink's ability looks at the Backstage, goes "well, there's nothing there, I can't move any cards," and you continue on.

If you have another effect, not part of his ability, that moves cards from the Backstage, you may use it, and the Shenanigans cards would be a valid target for that, but when you use Doink's ability, any part of it, the Shenanigans cards cannot be interacted with.
