Wrestling Controversies
« on: January 19, 2018, 02:20:07 PM »
Out of all the wrestling controversies out there (no matter how absurd) which one would be the most damaging if it were found to be true tomorrow morning?

Let's keep it tasteful but I'm morbidly curious.

in all seriousness, I don't think anything could come out that was more damaging then the Benoit incident was, and the damage that wrestling does to the brain and the body.....it survived that, I can't see anything else coming close to that.....

Jerry Lawler's alleged relationship with a minor, X-pac's alleged "relationship" with Pat Patterson.

Late 80's maybe early 90's Pat Patterson had a group of young boys called the Cream Team. I'm not going into specifics, if you wanna look it up go ahead. It ranks right up there with Beniot.

What about the (totally nutcase) conspiracy that Dave Sullivan was behind it all or the (even nuttier) conspiracy that WWE was behind it?

I'd say the loony theory of WWE killing Owen Hart as "payback" for the Austin injury would be pretty damaging.

There's people TO THIS DAY who swear on their lives that Kevin Sullivan was behind it since he was "Evil and Satanic" on TV.....then again we have
flat earthers too....

Yeah that would be kinda....insane.... .but kinda fits in Russo style booking

Or as bad as the flat out Evil stuff Moolah used to run in the day.......

I think that at this point in time it is too far removed to be a consequence, but 15 years ago I think that if it came out that Montreal was a work, that would have been pretty devastating. There are quite a few wrestlers who still believe that it was. I personally do not, but they have their evidence.

Outright murder's a bit too loony for me, but even without that motive, if Vince McMahon was made aware of the risks of using that harness before signing off on the stunt, and he signed off on it anyway due to callousness or negligence, that would probably have been incredibly damaging by itself.
