Where does one start?
« on: December 24, 2017, 01:21:20 PM »
I have a sizeable collection which i inherited from a friend that was looking to get rid of it.  My options are near limitless, which is pretty daunting.  I like a lot of the virtual superstars you have come out with and it excites me to try them. But, where do i start when it comes to building decks from scratch?

yeah the big picture can be scary when you get dropped in the middle of it....I guess the best question is....where and when did you stop playing Raw Deal? (if at all) that might be a good start point......

i played briefly during premiere and backlash, so as far as most basics go, i know that.  The collection includes a wide range of begining to end, and large amount of it.

For classic decks what I would do is a reversal suite of step/escape/break or reach, or revos. 12 0F maneuvers to help get the early game in and build from there.

the backlash is still a little shakey to me. especially the strategy around it. Unfortunately, I didn't get any Revo cards,  but habe been slowly picking those up over time.

12 Base Reversals and 12 0F maneuvers.  Do most decks pack that suite?  I'm sure the makeup of the deck depends, e.g. back to basics etc.

A reversal suite will differ depending on your deck style. I like the step/escape with a submission reversal of choice and start with Nerve Hold and Leg Drag as my main hybrids as reversals.

Find some old starter deck lists or take a look at the Classic deck review forum to get familiar with how some people construct decks. Trial and error and seeing what you like is a big factor too.

I'll share my own deckbuilding suites that I use for my own decks:

Neutral Reversals
Usually a suite of:
1-2x each of Step Aside/Escape Move/Break the Hold/Lift a Boot
3x A Revolution of the Mind
1-2x Elbow to the Face
2-3x Get the F Out
1x Overshot your Mark
1-2x No Chance in Hell TB
VC staples like Don't be a Douchebag/Carlito Says/You missed your chance

Heel Reversal Staples
3x Manager Interferes
1x Outside Interference (midmatch)
1x Unscrupulous SOB (midmatch)

Face Reversal Staples
3x Once is Enough
2x Sloppy... Very Sloppy

BASH Staples
3x The Return BASH for Scotty’s W-O-R-M

Mid-match Reversals
Restricted Use in this Area
You're as graceful as a cow on ice
This is gonna turn into an old school brawl! (VC)

Those should cover a good amount of decks to try (if you're only intending to have one active playable deck to swap around), allowing for maximum flexibility in deck playstyles with reversal suites that cover all, if not most, decks. I would consider a starting 0F maneuver suite of 7-10 maneuvers, as most decks have a way to get past the early game nowadays, esp in VC.
