So why was Dean cut & replaced by Eugene?

By the time Barron was writing cards for him he didn't have a prominent role on television anymore. Same reasoning why he never got to make a set for Stevie. You have to get cards to print with the most updated roster possible within reason. Just look at the era Eugene was in, Dean was nowhere to be seen.

Barron also divulged that during the playtesting for Backlash that the WWF didn't think The Right To Censor decks would sell well at all and suggested he put another team in their place. Barron wanted them in the game SO bad that he relayed to them that "they will be so good people will have to buy them". I know that sounds silly but it's true.

The only superstars I had issue with him making were the "Fantasy" teams like The Heat Seekers and The Dangerous Alliance (which existed but not like he made them). I also hated The Mystery Wrestler. Just sticks out like a sore thumb when so many other superstars should have made print.

Before Doink made it into the game he gave the players a list of what legends he had permission to use and one of them was Bushwacker Luke. Not both, just Luke. I thought that was weirdly hilarious.

My memory could be faulty, or I may only have part of the story, but as I recall, the issue that resulted in The Mystery Wrestler was that CI was told to replace Mick Foley too close to release. There wasn't time to design and test a new superstar; they only had time to make a slightly different face card and logo and push it out.

Just one of the many reasons why the virtual sets are so awesome; the team doesn't have a corporation to please or answer to; just the dedication of making good, fun sets.

Without wanting to pimp ourselves, guys like Ultimate Warrior and Randy Savage were left out of Raw Deal during print because they weren't on good terms with WWE.  Not to mention losing support for Superstars that fired or left the company.  Such a shame.

I'll confirm the Mystery Wrestler story, funny that at GenCon after that, Foley was joking about how they should make The Four Horsemen as The Mystery Stable...

I remember at one of the NYC tournaments, I jokingly asked Baron when they'd make Yokozuna - he replied "The 5th of never."

So there's going to be a CM Punk remake this holiday set or was Creed talking about another set?

Wrong topic.  Reading the right one will probably answer your question.

So what official cards did we miss out on if any by the time it was canceled? Were there cards in the works another set in the planning stages. Not sure how much notice they got that RD was being pulled.

Mike Foley, the only living designer, isn't interested in sharing.  I've tried several times.

Wasn't The Phenom's ability at one time suppose to be the Basham Bros?

I heard about that. I remember you could play Puppies, Puppies against female opponents, right?

There was also a rumor that Mordecai should have been released. Was that right?

I heard it but doubtful they did.  I never saw anything relating to it in playtesting.

Plus, he wasn't on TV that long, so it's more likely 'wishful thinking'.

Mordecai was a no.

As previously stated, the Unamericans were the original version of what became Jamie Noble. Managed by Nidia was "The Upside-Down Flag" which drew some unwanted ire so the idea was scrapped completely.

I still find it amusing that Lance Storm's ability became La Resistance, then that was scrapped because the team had disbanded...that led to it being used for Rene Dupree, "The French Phenom" which only allows him to pack 1 copy of any card...in the same expansion where The Phenom (Undertaker) can pack 4 non-uniques.

Side-Topic: Was Divas Overload the worst selling expansion in the game's history?

Judging from the currently available booster packs in the market, it seems that Mania, Summerslam and Divas Overload are the most abundant, meaning they probably weren't sought after badly.

A lot of my local players in OKC got bored with the game during Divas.  Vengeance, thankfully, brought them back.

Find this old promo poster for Vengeance. It names Mick Foley and Adam Copeland as decks. Obviously, a more straightforward renaming for Adam, than recasting Mick. :)
