Best card layout?
« on: September 15, 2015, 08:15:25 PM »
Edit: Just wanted to post an update. Here are some examples of what we're aiming for with the final images:

Hey everyone. I'm hoping to get some feedback on the card design for the MMA game. Specifically the background on the card. The playtesting images in Lackey are a little... plain. Here are a few ideas we've had so far to bring a little more "Oomph" to the cards:

(Keep in mind the photo is NOT final, and was borrowed/thrown in to give you an idea of the finished product.)

With this in mind, what background do you prefer? A,B,C,D, or E
Vote for ONE ONLY please!!! Comment below!

Alternatively, what do you think would make the cards look better?

Could we have an E-style variant of C, with a little more zoom out on the cage wire?

A cage background fits better for a mma fight. A couple of layout suggestions:

If victory points are counted at the end if the bout as a tie breaker, maybe they don't need to be so prominently large. It would make room for my second suggestion...

Instead of writing ground the fight, could this be done with a ground the fight logo?  You could also use another color of the same logo to show a requirement of ground the fight. This way a player could look for the logo on the last card in the stack to see what position he is in. It would make for more room for card text, or flavor text.
Good work. I like game designers.  ;)

With the final size scaling down to the cards, I tried not to make it too small, but this is what it looks like zoomed out more.

Zoom it back in a touch and I think that you've got a winner right there.

I think that background looks pretty good, but I might suggest a slightly different color for those green bars.  I find that I have a hard time paying attention to the rest of the card because I find that contrast with the neon green a little distracting.
