Godfather Ruling with a Run-In...
« on: November 25, 2013, 06:49:32 PM »
Who Wants An Escort For The Night? states that run-ins with a female's name in the title are Fortitude 0 and cannot be reversed.

So what about:

Does Everyone Want (And Need) A Snow Job?

It's an action: run-in and has a females name in the title: "Eve".

I know this sounds nitpicky, but this same methodology has worked with cards with "hell"  and leg in the title, even if they were a part of a larger word.

Ruling please?

P.S. I was going to ask the same question regarding Blindsided by the Dangerous Divas, as I have seen the name "Lindsey" spelled "Lindsi" but I know that is a pretty big stretch.

Snow Job and Blindsided by the Dangerous Divas are not included. The female's name has to stand alone for this card, which is a stark exception to the usual process of looking for some string in the title. The difference here is that the string is not strictly defined, unlike looking for "leg" or "chair" or "power".

So the difference here is because "leg" and "hell" are words and Godfather's card looks for a female's name?

I'm so lost. I'm not disagreeing with you, just trying to understand the logic of being able to find "hell" in "Michelle McCool" and not being able to find "Eve", a female's name in the word "Everybody".

The logic is this: when you ask to find "hell," the game is looking for those four letters together, no matter what else is on the left and right side. (This grew out of needing to find "bomb" and "power" in Powerbomb; otherwise, it would need to be called Power Bomb and Powerbomb was already printed a few sets beforehand. MRP doesn't do well with name changes; see the FAQ entry spawned from when Don't You Never... EVER! became Don't You Never... Eeeeeeeeeeever!.)

When you're looking for a female's name on Escort, the name has to be by itself in order to fit the definition of "a female's name." If a card said that anything with a piece of furniture in its name was -4F, it'd discount Chair Shot (because you can sit on chairs) but not Revolution Hail to the Chairman (because you don't sit on the Chairman if you know what's good for you).

Real talk: we needed a shorthand to specify the female run-ins without having to write out all of the names on the card. Since a card hasn't looked for something with an unset string in the title before, we have some leeway in writing the rules for it while fitting them in the rules architecture. Godfather is plenty good without stretching for 0F unreversible Snow Jobs and Blindsided by the Dangerous Divas.

(And no, you still can't play Everybody Wants (and Needs) a... Snow Job? against Eve, because while the "eve" in Everybody isn't a female's name, it's still "Eve" and she blocks you from it.)

Erm, pardon me but isn't Snow a female's name? Snow White?

No, lol.  Just because there is a female out there with a name not considered to be a 'female name' doesn't mean a word is magically transformed into a female name.

Look, bottom line - people occasionally complain that there are too many words on cards.  We could either spell out EVERY SINGLE CARD TITLE in his Superstar card, or we can FAQ it under the impression that people can use common sense (and we explain for clarification).  We went with the latter, so yes, there's a bit of 'it works because we say it does' here, however it really isn't a stretch of the imagination to accept it the way it is.

I'm all for loopholing here guys, but stop and think.. does it actually MATTER that Godfather doesn't use Snow Job as one of his 'ladies'?  :)

Frankly, I'd be more concerned if Al Snow was one of the Godfather's ladies than I am if he's not.

Though the Godfather as a good pimp, and small business owner should truly have the proper employees to satisfy any need a customer might had, be it male or female employees ;)
