Tournament Reports / SG VR TLC 2017 personal report
« on: October 29, 2017, 09:51:31 AM »
Staying true to the 'extreme" nature of the pay per view, I decided to run a Matt Hardy as a challenge. I actually raised up a thread to ask for feedback of how it can be built but there wasn't any response so I just went with my original play of depending on double leg lock crabs and playing all the extreme follow-ups. Didn't work out for most matches, and when it did,  it only happened nearing the end, or it just didn't go through entirely.

Game 1: vs Tajiri
Play tested before, and I switched up my arsenal cards a little, especially my choice of follow-ups. But Tajiri pushed real hard on the kicks and the lack of core reversals sealed the deal for a fast game under 10min.

Game 2: vs Tazz
Made this deck, knew exactly how it's gonna play out. But unexpectedly I faired better than the previous games because I managed to get a few moves in. The multiple antic reversals and the lack of double leg lock crabs in hand and backlash once again proved to be the key to stopping my Matt Hardy. Both players actually had less than 10 cards in arsenal.

Game 3: vs Kurt Angle
Formed this deck for a new player so I roughly knew what to expect, but I certainly didn't expect to be trashed real hard. The antic and the smart use of Singapore cane and Kurt antic was mean, and even I didn't have that in mind when I did the deck. Kudos to KM for thinking about that!

Game 4: vs Rey Mysterio
For once, I got off to a good start with maneuvers actually going in successfully. But Rey's mini core maneuvers really pushed the limits of Matt. High level game play, exploiting the use of my double leg lock crab drawing to get reversals while thinning my deck, 1 short arm clothesline and back fist at a time. Luck seemed to be on my side as I did managed to reverse using Hardy's bulldog and Side effect. But the rey reversal just puts us back to square 1. Wasn't able to continue my assault further and got crushed. Still, I went out of the game my way, choosing to self pin with aggression rule.

Game 5: vs Sabu
This victory was not deserving because I had to go against  new player and his own deck. Matt's deck did what it was intended to do, quickly hitting in Homicidal lunge, followed by flying Forearm and a matt's Moonsault. It didn't help especially that at the end of turn 3 or 4, I had all 3 2nd sol and 2 1st sol either in my ring or in hand. Sabu did have a good comeback after I ran out of reversals for desperate. But fort built was too slow for Sabu while Matt was way ahead of the curve. Managed to pin with an Inverted Body Block. Intense and close game, but I truly applaud Calvin N for his efforts!

Overall, really appreciate how new players put in the effort to come by, learn and attempt at playing their own decks. It's this sort of spirit that truly captures the emotions and meaning of the game. Sometimes it's not just the victories and loses, but the people that make each game so much more enjoyable. Matt Hardy still seems to be a difficult superstar to play, but at least I can strike him off my list for now! Will I revisit the deck? Maybe. As the saying goes, never say never!

Certainly. The removal of heel, face, smackdown, raw, run-ins, foreign objects, various types of pre-match and most importantly simplified texts really makes the game smoother without changing much of the gaming aspects, less the higher dependence on luck. Afterall, a 26min pre-match phase certain doesn't reflect what a normal match would look like if you know what I mean ;)

The quick pace of the game is much easier for the brain as well. No one really wants to seat through an hour long game, just to go into another. We actually completed our tourney in 2hrs, slightly longer than usual because we guided the 2 new players. Personally my games lasted 10 to 15min tops.

All in all, its a change in pace as compared to VC and C, but its also a refreshing format to take a break with. My friends and I usually use revo format as the 'resting' format after 1 or 2 VC games, just so we don't get too bored with a single format.

Yet another successful Revo tourney. Big welcome to 2 new players! Congrats to Sheila for having a clean sweep today, and also Joewi for winning the lucky draw of Alt Art New Breed faction. As usual, everyone walked away with a doorgift, a New Breed Unleashed!

Hope to see more players in the next tournaments! Prizes for end cycle tourney is being decided and will be announced soon!

Congrats on roping him in successfully! Care to reveal more details of his reaction? probably his comments on the game or any future plans?

I think Lita has a gd chance since she can search arsenal for maneuvers, so technically she can play something every turn. -5F is a bonus too. She doesn't need to chain things off, and still have reasonable support to make sure her maneuvers go through. Otherwise it would be quite disappointing to have 0 maneuvers in ring at the end of a game. Flaunt and Xtreme Thong should help her along just fine.

I would say we are gd. Just scattered because everyone is on different levels. Some play casual some play competitive. Some only want to play classic, but others will to try vc and revo.

General Discussion: Raw Deal / <R> Matt Hardy help
« on: October 10, 2017, 09:47:25 AM »
Hi guys, would like to hear your input on what direction should <R> Matt Hardy be heading towards

Revolution MATT HARDY
Starting Hand Size: 6     Superstar Value: 3
Superstar Ability: Once during each of your turns, you may overturn 3 cards (when you have have fewer cards in hand, 2 cards): draw 1 card.
When packing non-Revolution cards: you can pack Matt Facts.

Revolution Version 1.0
Pre-match: Event
Your Superstar Value is +1 and your Pre-match Capacity is +1.
When you are Revolution Matt Hardy: you are an Extremist, and when you play an Extreme: Follow-up, you may discard 2 cards and ignore the Follow-up; when it is successfully played, shuffle 1 non-reversal card from your Ringside into your Arsenal.

To me, he seems like a weaker version of Kofi and Jeff for the follow-up part, and also much weaker in draw power as compared to Terry Funk and Elijah Burke. Plus, incredible high flyers did not really blend in well with his ability since technically Matt can ignore the follow-up.

Thus, any input on whether I am missing out anything is much appreciated! And just to be clear, we are just talking about Revo format.

Sports Discussion / Re: Hell in a Cell Predictions
« on: October 08, 2017, 04:37:29 PM »
Well things are heating up because tye just got added to the US title match!

Most of the matches are quite predictable so I won't go into them. But Kevin vs Shane is going to be interesting. Fall counts meant that it would probably take place on the roof or at the announcement area on top of a table or wreckage after Shane goes through 1. Thought of Sami NOT being on the line up only adds to the intrigue that he will appear to turn side with KO. Or they can go the lazy way and have Sami interfere on KO's behalf to set up for a survivor series match

Deck Reviews - Revolution / <R> Undertaker: Storyline
« on: September 24, 2017, 08:45:29 AM »
Undertaker is an extremely strong superstar, and his storyline really seems abit weaker in my opinion, just because it's only once a game. But nonetheless, the first part of the ability seems usable, so I revolved my deck around it. The main idea of the deck was to get to 6-7F so you can start hitting in the garbage cans and Double Leg Lock Crabs. From there, its situational whether to keep hitting means all the time, or to switch with Colossals. STF is there mainly for recovery and also to lure out possible reversals for Snake Eyes and Tombstone. Pre-match wise, its all about dropping opponent's hand as much as possible, while bringing yours up as much as possible. If you're lucky, Icy Stare will ensure your initial fort and you can skip playing cores altogether.

Results for tourney 2 out! No Mercy lived up to its name, where we see almost a complete shuffle of ranking from the previous tourney.
Also glad to see 4 new faces showing interest in the game. Let's hope they can join in the fun next tourney!

Talking about the next tourney... Details for tourney 3 is out! :) Since its gonna be TLC, what can be more fitting than to have it Extremist themed. But to broaden the scope, superstars from the other 2 factions are also included.

Cya guys around! Will be posting the results and personal report in abit.

1st tourney results of cycle 3 updated! Summerslam was a blast with a 8 men (and woman) round robin. Surprisingly, 7 games took around 1 and a half hours or so to complete! Congrats to Calvin for his clean sweep, and in the name of fair play, lets see if anyone else can top No Mercy! :)

Just my 2cents, he's just at the stage of new players where he isn't comfortable with things he's unsure of, just like many other old players are adamant against picking up virtual or revolution. But if he is serious about it, I am sure he will find his way here, or better, already be reading this. A lot of paperwork and $$ to be involved, unlikely he will proceed with anything without consulting the main guys and the main player base (here).

Tournament Announcements / SG Virtual Revolution Cycle 3

Welcome to the cycle 3 main page! Hot off the heels of an awesome cycle 2, we begin our journey down part 3 of this never ending adventure for greatness. As mentioned previously, this cycle will consist of 5 separate tournaments so we can cut off the year nicely.

So you might ask, what's in for you to join us? Well, apart from the door gift, lucky draw, and top prize(s) PER tournament, you get to mix with different people from different parts of Singapore! Who knows, you might also find someone playing that's staying next to you! Tonnes of fun awaits you, including having to witness the first every VR MITB cash in, as well as a possible new player to top the cycle! Did I also mention that each tournament would earn you points for the ultimate cycle prize??!?!

Points will be accumulated throughout the 5 tournaments, and here's the prize scheme:
1. 1st place will get 3 alt art superstar of their choice, 2nd will get 2, 3rd will get 1 ($ required)
2. Every participant for the cycle would be entitled to 1 extremist of their choice at the end of the cycle ($ required)
3. Lucky draw would be applicable for the rest of the players not in the top few (free)

Here's how the scoring works:
1. Every participant will by default get 1pt for participation
2. For every victory (regardless CO, DQ), will be considered 1pt
3. At the end of the day if there's a tie, we will take into consideration who has more pins
4. If all else fails, a tie breaker match would determine the true champion (subjected to change depending on players)

Without further adieu, here's the line up for Cycle 3:

Agree with the maneuver antic hybrids, but I can't say I didn't try it. This was actually the 6th version of the deck before I got it off the ground. Everything else seemed nice on paper but hard to pull off irl, unless I just haven't reached that stage of game play yet haha
