General Chat / Re: [Spoilers] Persona 5 Royal
« on: March 31, 2020, 09:06:25 AM »
It arrived within the past hour, but my wife's working in the living room and is on calls all day, so... I'll have thoughts soon. Right now, I'm... aggravated by the delay, but looking forward to it.

Side note: When next you're up our way, give me a shout. I don't use my Vita anymore (bought it for P4G, used it for mostly that, have other stuff now), so I'd be happy to loan it to you if you like.

2
That... is much worse than the speculation I heard that it would be Braun Strowman.

Of course, given my druthers, I'd have the Usos beat the New Day to get into the Tag Title match against Miz & Morrison, which would free up Kofi Kingston for another Wrestlemania moment. But we all know that's not happening.

Speaking of people not being there...

That's the Smackdown Title match kiboshed. Roman Reigns is off the card at his request, as he is immunocompromised and unwilling to take the risk (and wisely so.) There will apparently be a replacement to feed to Goldberg, and it will probably suck.

...OK, that is a very different question, and one that sounds like I need to check with the back office about the card's original design intent. Hold that thought.

The bolded clause is part of the "when Your Town is in his Ring" effect, but if Your Town is not in his Ring, it doesn't matter. At the point at which you can play This is MY Hometown, you already cannot play a Feud, Stipulation, or Manager. That clause is to prevent you from using the "immediately play a Feud, Stipulation, Manager, or Object" text to put a second Feud/Stip/Manager into your Ring.

(Example: you are The Four Horsemen, and for whatever reason, you're packing Managed by J.J. Dillon and Managed by "The Mouth of the South," Jimmy Hart. Your opponent plays Your Town, you play JJ. If you then play MY Hometown, you cannot then play Jimmy; however, if your opponent had not played Your Town and you'd played JJ, you wouldn't have been able to play Jimmy anyway. It's only the specific permission of MY Hometown that needed that possibility shut off.)

And we're already getting reports of people not being there. Dana Brooke and Rey Mysterio are both in self-isolation, and will miss the show. Dana's been pulled from the Smackdown women's title match, and Rey was apparently going to be in a 4-way match with Andrade, Humberto Carrillo, and Angel Garza for the US title. Instead we're getting Andrade & Angel Garza vs. the Street Profits for the Raw tag titles.

Well, first things first, this is a rules question, so off to the Rules forum we go.

Also, the card text of Straight-Shootin' Interview:

Straight-Shootin’ Interview
Pre-match Event
When this card is in your Ring area, if you successfully play a maneuver with the word “shoot” in the title, remove the top card of your Arsenal from the game and remove the top 2 cards of your opponent’s Arsenal from the game. During your turn, you may put this card into your Ringside pile and then he overturns cards equal to the number of maneuvers in your Ring area with the word “shoot” in the title.

As to the question, yes, you can use the text of Straight-Shootin' Interview to remove cards from the game whenever you successfully play a shoot maneuver. DVS limits you to playing only one copy of Straight-Shootin' Interview (thanks to it now being Active), but the second half of that sentence has no bearing on SSI itself. It primarily exists so that Shoot Counter does not see SSI in your Ring; you have to successfully play another card with Shoot in the title for that to be a valid play.

Note that SSI triggers off a successful maneuver, not a successful card; you can't trigger that effect just because you played SSI, but that's not because of DVS.

Short answer: Yes.

Longer explanation: Any superstar card that depicts only female wrestlers is considered a female superstar; any superstar card that depicts at least one male wrestler is considered a male superstar. Ex: Gail Kim & Molly Holly and Lay-Cool are female superstars, but Right to Censor and the Hurri-Friends are male, despite the presence of Ivory and Stacy Keibler, respectively, on those cards.

This is not directed at you by any means, but I've seen some smartasses who thought they were funny attempt jokes on this front in the past, so I'll take this opportunity to emphasize: a female character who is portrayed as particularly strong, such as Chyna or Nia Jax, is female. A male character who has dressed in drag or portrayed an ambiguous gimmick, such as Santino Marella or Billy & Chuck, is male. Neither the rules nor I have any interest in "jokes" of this nature.

Classic Raw Deal / Re: The Longevity of Rawdeal Question
« on: March 04, 2020, 06:48:38 AM »
To back this up a little more, I looked at card images of The Rock and Mr. Kennedy, since they were in Premiere and GAB, respectively. The copyright date on the Rock is 2000, the copyright date on Kennedy is 2006. That doesn't give us the month, unfortunately, but at a bare minimum, even if it had been December '00 and January '06 (which I'm pretty sure it wasn't,) that's a minimum of five years and one month, not counting Revolution 1-3. Her research is wrong.

Fortunately, gut instincts aren't required; we have explicit rules text.

Quote from: V5
Virtual 5: Nexus Or Against Us

500 Card Set

New Rules:
* New Superstar Type: Rookie - A Rookie Superstar may pack 1 PRO card in his Backstage Area.
* Cards that are flipped over do not affect the game, they lose all traits but retain their card title, and they become the card type 'Face-Down'; a Permanent, Active or RMS card cannot become face-down.  Face-Down cards are public knowledge, just like face up cards.  (Cards face-down UNDER other cards are still protected.)

It is baked in to the rules for flipping cards that Permanent, Active, and RMS cards are not valid targets to flip.

As to your other questions:
a) the only interactions face-down cards have with the game, once flipped, are those defined by a Superstar's cards (like Eve getting Fortitude from them and being unable to flip them face up) and those that check for "when you have {card titled X} in your Ring."
b) there are non-Superstar-specific ways to unflip cards, Turning Everything Upside Down being the one that immediately comes to mind for me.

Rules Forum / Re: Question about Back to Basics and playing an Allegiance
« on: February 27, 2020, 09:11:03 AM »
ok thought i would ask.

I am trying to build Sycho Sid but have been stumped what would be a good build for him.

I'm going to stop us here before this gets too off track. Please feel free to continue this discussion in the Virtual Raw Deal forum (I have a couple thoughts on Sid, if you do start a new thread) but this forum should be for rules Q&A only. Strategy conversations belong elsewhere.

Rules Forum / Re: Question about Back to Basics and playing an Allegiance
« on: February 26, 2020, 06:40:20 AM »
No. Back to Basics looks for exact titles, and the Classic maneuvers all have the word "Classic" in their title. Backhand Slap (OG) and Backhand Slap (TB) are each valid options because both are titled "Backhand Slap" (though remember you only get to search for one copy, so you cannot pack both the original and the throwback in the same deck), but Classic Vertical Suplex is not, since Back to Basics specifically wants a card titled "Vertical Suplex."

You may play an Allegiance and a Venue, or any card that stipulates you may play it during any phase (such as the Steiner Brothers' The Dog-Faced Gremlin), before B2B shuts off your capacity to play other cards.

BRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAU UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU UUNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Finally, WWE GETS THESE HANDS! (again; NGL, I picked Braun because he's won one of these before.) Honestly, after coming in second something like 4 or 5 times out of 13 of these, I was despairing of ever pulling it off, but that was a hell of a lot of fun. I eagerly await my opportunity to defend the crown next year!

15
I knew I was going to be in the first two. I was afraid it'd be Braun, but I knew it was happening somehow. At least it's just Rowan.

Rules Forum / Re: Molly Holly
« on: January 23, 2020, 11:23:06 AM »
Any time Molly would choose a specific number of cards, she chooses double that number of random cards, so if she activates Where the Big Boys Play, she chooses 4 random cards, without knowledge of card type, and those cards cannot be played in response to her next maneuver that turn.

Pluck 4 reversals? Result!

Pluck 4 maneuvers? Oof.

Note that this holds true for any effect that looks for a specific number of cards: this works this way because WtBBP is looking for 2 reversals. If it was looking for any number of reversals, or any specific type of card, (Like Cheaters Never Win, for example) the only valid number you can look for is 0, which gets doubled to 0.

Virtual Raw Deal / Re: Old School wrestling match tb fixes
« on: January 21, 2020, 12:37:29 PM »
A worthy topic for discussion, but not appropriate for the Rules forum, so let's continue this over here.

That said, my immediate inclination is to cut the overturn to 3. Anything lower than that and the card's a coaster. If we want to be a bit more adventurous, I'd advocate for "reveal the top 4 cards of your Arsenal, put three of them into your Ringside, and shuffle your Arsenal." That way, if there's something critical on top, it stays in your deck, but goes to a random location as a cost.

When a card tells you to put it into a location, you are not required to have the necessary Fortitude to do so. You only need Fortitude if you are playing the card normally.

AFAICT, Debu's correct on all counts. It's intended to reverse any Maintainable TMF or any Submission, but there's a missing comma. I'll bring that to Eric's attention if he doesn't see this thread, and we'll see what can be done about it in the revision process.

On an unrelated note, this is a rules question, so I'm going to yeet this over to the Rules forum if I can figure out how.

Welcome (back) to Raw Deal / Re: Crowdsourcing Virtual Starter Decks
« on: January 09, 2020, 08:37:00 AM »
I believe these should be Virtual exclusive to save a player from having to find existing cards to add into the deck.

I have one qualm, with this specific portion of the suggestion. I get the desire to keep it print and play, but there are some very necessary cards that simply do not have a Virtual equivalent (thinking here primarily of Elbow to the Face, but there are others.) I would want to find a way to ensure that, at least for the relatively common staple Classic cards like this one, that we have a way to supply new players with them. I'm not sure I have a great solution as to how to do that, short of incorporating them into a VSS release as throwbacks much the same way we've done with previous staples, but I feel like the reversal base, in particular, would suffer without access to the wider pool.

Keith, at an extremely quick glance, I like the work and thought you've put in here. There's a nice balance with the decks, a bit of room for customization (since not every superstar will fill every slot missing from the deck framework exactly, there will be some opportunities for the novice deckbuilder to make adjustments), and the seven deck frameworks are all well focused. They do include some cards that might be a bit trickier to get access to if you're new to the game and don't live near a lot of players with a larger collection (thinking mostly of rares without virtual throwbacks here), but all in all, it's a great way to start people off.

As for who to build, you want relatively simple superstars who might intrigue long-time wrestling fans, so how about a rematch from Summerslam '92? Bret Hart and the British Bulldog.

That's correct. Lacey gets to do everything on the card against anyone who is a Superstar.

Can I disagree?  Let me explain.

LACEY EVANS
Starting Hand Size: 5     Superstar Value: 1
Superstar Ability: You may pack cards as if you are a Diva, but you do not count as a Diva. Your cards with 'diva', 'woman' or 'female' in the text or title are considered to have 'lady' in the title. During each of your turns, you may overturn 2 cards to put 1 card with 'lady' in the title removed from the game into your hand.

Everyone Wants to Watch Women Wrestle
Action
Can only be packed by a Female Superstar.
When your opponent is a Male Superstar, search his Arsenal for 3 non-unique Maneuver cards, remove them from the game, and he shuffles his Arsenal.
When your opponent is a Female Superstar, this card is -1F, discard this card and your opponent discards 1 card.

Everyone Wants to Watch Women, Period
Action
Can only be packed by a Female Superstar.
When your opponent is a Male Superstar, he discards 3 cards.
When your opponent is a Female Superstar, this card is -1F, discard this card and draw 1 card.

I don't want to be pedantic (ok, I do; I like to), however, my understanding is that "woman" and "women" are not the same word.
If it was intended to interact that way, an emergency errata may be needed.

You may disagree, but you're wrong. Or, rather, you're missing something very important.

These cards don't gain 'lady' because of their title; they both have the word 'female' in the text.

Scotty is stamped for correctitude.

In order for Seth to pack A Dynasty's Destiny, he'd need specific permission from one of his cards to do so. None of them provide that.

Yes. Finn’s ability is a replacement effect, and if he wants to, he can put the cards not chosen under his face card instead.
