Re: Highlander...

For the longest while, Raw Deal was known as the "Highlander Retirement Home" because when highlander (1st edition) died, many of the top players migrated to Raw Deal.

I'm about to go out and buy some wood for Star Wars Xwing.

Once that's done, I'll see if I can tackle the members thing tonight.

Also... I'm noticing a retailer backer option is curiously absent from your new Kickstarter. Just sayin'

I'll call you when things settle down this weekend, or on Monday/Tuesday worst case scenario.

Actually it's John's email address that's on the website that bounced.

...if a retailer wanted to carry Supershow, what's the process? I tried to email the address on your website, it bounced. I tried to contact both #'s from the SRG business card I got at Gencon, but no voice mail options.

Cool, can we do the multi deck thing? I'll be there!

Just brings some decks, and come out to play. I'm looking forward to seeing folks out, an encouraging people to play.

If folks want to try the new NXT format they can do that too!

Hey, is there any prize support for the event? Silly question, but are all axxess decks ok?

If players show up, and the request for prize support breaks out, then we can request some from Tony.

You can bring whatever you want. I've just been requested to get the Winnipeg Crew together for some Raw Dealing.

In the new Batman Vs. Superman Trailer it looks like they might have figured out that maybe having a bit of humour in a superhero movie isn't the worst thing in the world.

General Chat / Re: Forum Errors?

Hi All,

We think we've fixed the form errors. They required an upgrade of the site as a whole. So there are some bumps that we'll have to iron out as a result.

We *think* that we've been able to salvage all the forum information. We're not certain about the front page articles.

Thanks for your patience and understanding.

You get more Cowbell. And thank you, I now understand twitter freaking out.

Classic Raw Deal / Re: Weirdest place you've ever played Raw Deal?
« on: August 13, 2015, 11:10:02 AM »
It doesn't count as Raw Deal, but the weirdest place I've had a match was when we used the 24/7 Hardcore rules for UFS.

One of the players managed to achieve alcohol poisoning from enjoying the convention too much.
Being the good guy that I am, I drove him to the hospital with his face in a plastic bag to protect my girlfriend's car from his enthusiastic celebrations. Once he was in the hospital emergency room, I challenged him to a Hardcore 24/7 match.

The only words he could manage was "@#$% You Brian... @#$# You."

Virtual Raw Deal / Re: What would it take.
« on: August 13, 2015, 10:33:34 AM »
To add onto what Buddha said, and perhaps make it a little bit clearer.

When a player frequently contributes to discussion on the board in an eloquent manners where they are making fully reasoned out arguments, and elevates the discussion on the boards if they are demonstrating an understanding of the rules and how Raw Deal is played, that will often lead to consideration. Often it will be one of the play-testers will say "Hey guys, what do you think of adding person X to the team. I really think they'll bring something to the team." Sometimes there's discussion, sometimes it's so obvious the person is just automatically included (if they agree).

Classic Raw Deal / Re: Raw deal Revolution
« on: August 11, 2015, 11:01:30 PM »
I am not Creed, but I have some additional insights on this.

The creation of Revolution had been building for a while prior to it's implementation.

In addition to a number of items that Creed mentioned, at the time the WWE was going through a renewed sense of Kayfabe. Terms like Heel and Face had already been replaced by Cheater and Fan Favourite. The WWE was desiring further changes to the game to help protect Kayfabe, and have the game fall in line with the televised product.

There was also a concern that the game had gotten away from its roots. It had become to complicated. Mike Foley felt that the game towards the end of Raw Deal Classic as we knew it wasn't the game that Raw Deal started out as.

Revolution was a chance to reboot the game and make it accessible to more people.

Also when raw deal stopped production. Did you guys have any new set ideas at the time if so what were they?

If you're referring to when Great American Bash was released, no. It was specifically designed to be the bookend to Raw Deal Classic.

If you're referring to when Revo 3 was released. Again no. Barron had missed Gencon because of his declining health. Between Revo 2 and Revo 3, there was a tremendous outreach by Mike to gather player feedback and attempt to make positive changes to Revo in R3 to help fix problems with the game. It was pretty much known that R3 was going to be the end of the road for Raw Deal, in part because of Barron's Health, in part because of declining sales, and Comic Images lack of desire to maintain the WWE Licence at that time.

One day I might write the my article "The Rise and Fall of Raw Deal." One day...

Classic Raw Deal / Re: Looking ahead to 2016
« on: August 06, 2015, 02:49:43 PM »
Just some "For what it's worth"

For Wizards of the Coast (Magic) you need 17+ players to do 5 rounds with a top 8 cut.

Fantasy Flight Games (Netrunner, X-wing, etc), also suggests a top 8 on 17+ players.
8-16 is a top 4.

What presents a challenge is when you're right on that cusp of 16/17 players, that 5th round often actually makes the cut messier. Playing until you have a single undefeated player is cleaner. I say this as someone who has run multiple Raw Deal World Championships, as well as qualifiers.

Something I will never forgot was doing an event where 50% of the field made the top cut, and Barron admonishing me because you should never have 50% of the field in the top cut.

I'm on my tablet and don't have time for a lengthy response. Hopefully in the next day or two I'll get a chance to give a more detailed response. Please keep adding to the discussion, I think there are some great ideas being presented, and I'm looking forward to seeing what else comes up.

Classic Raw Deal / Looking ahead to 2016
« on: August 06, 2015, 08:10:38 AM »
Hi everyone,

As you know, Raw Deal is for the players, by the players. Having just made it through the 2015 worlds, we start looking ahead to the 2016 worlds. As always, your feedback is crucial to the success of Raw Deal.

In planning for the 2016 World Championships - should we do it the same? Have we fond the balance that works? Should we make changes?

I see other games like Highlander that crowns a world champion for each format. Is that a model we should discuss moving toward?

By the way Raw Dealers, give yourself a pat on the back. Highlander which is currently in print had 8 people out for their worlds events. Raw Deal had 18, along with a number of spectators. Well done!
