Classic Raw Deal / OG Hogan
« on: April 17, 2019, 11:33:43 AM »
So, Ive been trying a few golden era superstar builds. Most recently ive been trying to put something together for the original print of the Hulkster. I decided to go Volley as the natural fit with his ability but halfway through building the usual Cheater Punch after punch/ thrust knee lift build, I realised I can't pack 24-inch pythons!! :( Is there a reason Hogan never got to ignore cheater/fan favourite on his specifics? I know when virtual came in at first, a lot of older superstars got to ignore the cheater/fan favourite on their specifics as it seemed kinda unecessary to restrict them. What I'm saying is OG Hogan really wants to pack 24-inch pythons in his Cheater Volley deck, brother! :P

A Method To The Madness
Mid-match Action
During your turn when this card is in your Backlash, you may put it into your Ring.
Your first non-hybrid maneuver played each turn that is 6D or less can only be reversed from Arsenal or by D: 0 reversals from hand.  When you discard cards to play a card with 'blindside' in the title from Ringside, discard 1 less card.
F: 0     D: 0     Unique     Permanent

If I have this in my ring and I play Blindside Beal Toss (which allows the opponent to choose a non unique card from my backlash and discard it), would I discard one less backlash card due to the protection of A Method to the Madness?

Hey all,

Bit of a random post but I'm planning on doing a road trip in the West Coast next year (26th Feb - 16th March) and am planning on spending some time in Socal. I hear the Raw Deal is strong here. Game?

Fantasy Cards / Angle's Patented Running Charge
« on: September 29, 2015, 01:19:51 PM »
Take note design team, this needs to be in V8.  ;D

Angle's Patented Running Charge (Kurt Angle logo)
Action + Action: Set up: Chain
F: 10      D: 0      Multi      Unique

Can only be played when your fortitide rating is less than your opponent's and as a counter (from arsenal). When your next card played this turn is a maneuver, reversals to that maneuver are +10D. (Superstar specific reversals are +15D) When that maneuver is successfully played, it cannot be reversed from your opponent's arsenal.

Yes, I used to love it when Angle would just "lose it" and full on charge the opponent (usually running straight into a Rock Bottom) Good times!  ;D

Pre-match Event
When packing this card and you are Goldberg, you are a WCW superstar.Cannot be blanked and does not take up a Pre-match slot in your Ring.At the end of the Pre-match phase, put up to 5 cards from your hand on the bottom of your Arsenal and draw the same number of cards.
ACE:  When your opponent reverses your maneuver with a non-Unique card, you may overturn 3 cards and then put the maneuver in your hand instead of any other location.

Can the ACE be used when my opponent reverses from arsenal? And does it have to be reversed completely or will it trigger, for example, when I play a multi and they overturn 1 reversal?

Classic Raw Deal / No Love for Andre?
« on: September 14, 2015, 02:09:16 PM »
So us UK boys have had a good few Raw Deal gatherings these past weeks leading to some much missed RD-related discussion. Now, between us, we have all built a plethora of decent decks but one guy who we can't help but feel a bit sorry for thesedays is, of all people, Andre the Giant. Yes, the formerly infamous giant himself. After the introduction of the 8th Wonder of the World TB, this guy just seems to be left wanting. I'm sure this has been discussed before but I'm really not convinced that there is any reason to play Andre over 8th wonder anymore. And that bugs me. I like the concept of Andre. He's a simple deck design that is my go-to deck for introducing new players to the game. I mean, what's not to love about the simplicity of a 100-card deck that just tries to straight-up beat down on opponents? And yet, in all honesty, as frightening as that 100-card deck looks on paper. In today's meta, it just seems... flimsy? Yeah, who'd have thought it'd be so easy to beatdown a 7ft legendary giant so easily? I can see why the creative team decided to tone Andre down after years of disgusting broken-ness but he just seems almost too weak to compete anymore. Here are a few issues we looked at:

- We Face Each Other As God Intended: I believe this card is fairly balanced now, don't get me wrong, it's still rather powerful but in all honesty there are plenty of ways to negate the strength of this card. Any backstage blanking really hurts Andre and imo, NOT because of the inability to bottom deck all hands. What really hurts is that key loss of protection against 'pin cards'. Far too many times have I witnessed andre walk into a simple backslide or inside cradle and that's it, game over. I suppose there is "Get back into the ring" but let's be honest, how is Andre supposed to guarantee it? Again I have no objection to the shenanigans card that hits the "lose hand" effect, it balances the effect nicely without it being completely overpowered.

- No hand = GG Andre: No pre-match = no protection from handsize reduction. You can have all the heat/blindside maneuvers in the world in Andre's ringside but No hand means no stopping the opponent's onslaught. Ever watched a 100-card deck dissappear in minutes? Triple H, Mark Henry, Kurt Angle and any other Aggro Chain deck says "buh-bye". Lashley has an absolute field day. :P

- Loss of Giant Eiffel Tower: A great and much needed support card for Andre. But it's fragile. Lack of permanent trait really hurts this card (yes I understand to lose it when hiding WFEOAGI) but I see no reason to lose it for playing maneuvers such as "Blindside drop toe hold".

- The Heat Argument: I keep hearing about "good old heat Andre builds" but what really bugs me about that is the lack of synergy with some of Andre's key superstar specifics. Inability to spam "8th Wonder of the World" and "It's not my fault..." is a big loss to an Andre deck imo. Yeah sure, multi heat moves every turn are kinda nice. But let's be honest who fears F:0 D:4 multi maneuvers thesedays? "Sure, hit me with your crappy heat moves" is the most likely response.

100-card deck isn't as big as you think: As mentioned previously, it can disappear QUICK. But the main issue I raise in this section is the comparison of 100 card deck vs standard packs such as Sustained damage, Rochester, Ready to fight, wrestlemania and mouths writing checks. It's easy to see how the 8th wonder of the world can easily outlast Andre if built correctly.

No more truly terrifying specifics: Everything Andre has now has been toned down. In all honesty, rightfully so. Obey was, indeed, ridiculous. But now, what does Andre have to make you sweat? 8th  Wonder? I guess, but if you're having trouble stopping a simple action, that's your problem. I don't know, it just feels like he needs something reliable and solid. How about an Andre-only pre-match? Something to give him a reason to play him over 8th wonder TB?

I'm sure there were other points raised but I really can't think. I'd be interested to hear the thoughts of the TCO community on this. Anything I missed? Anything you disagree with? Be good to hear your thoughts.

*Edit* I thought of another. Dastardly cards such as white wedding and Steph enforcer. Yes, you could argue it's just a case of "bad match-up" but when Andre is struggling as he is, anything like this just adds to his woes. Protection from such underhanded tactics is warranted, I feel. ;)

Myself as Crippler
Lilpimpin as RVD
Adam M as Trish
Scott M aa Mark Henry
Stevethedemon666 as Total Package
Simon M as Sting

Round 1 results:

Crippler def. Trish Stratus
Mark Henry def. RVD
Total Package def. Sting

Mark Henry laid a straight up beat down on RVD who was unable to do anything but stall the entire game through fear of backslide/inside cradle. After the game Scott, amusingly admitted he wasnt packing either. Didnt see much of the Lex vs Sting bout, looked very closely matched. Lex was simply able outlast Sting but both decks mix a decent blend of aggro and recovery. A loooong-ass game but not a long as Crippler-Trish. The Trish red wall of doom was as apparent as ever. (who knew that CANNOT BE REVERSED cards were so easily reversed lol) I even used rabid wolverine SIX times during one turn!! A chick kick/shoot counter combo almost put Crippler away but in the end Crippler's insane recovery won through.

Round 2
Crippler def. Mark Henry
Trish def. RVD

Mark Henry vs Crippler was a joy to play. Exactly how I like raw deal to be played. This was a pure slug-fest which resulted in a quick and brutal match (exactly how my crippler deck ISNT supposed to play ironically). Im not sure how Crippler out aggro'd Mark but it happened. Mark even had No Way Out and his specific which meant no reversals from pretty much anywhere. An Irreversible Dynamic Driver - Kamikazee Headbutt might do it. ;)
Trish vs RVD was another game of woe for RVD. Trish mercilessly reversed everything she could. Although RVD caught Trish with a surprise Axe kick and Ap chaki kick as reversals. Shoot counter against the Whole Dam show ends this bout.

At this point the rounds got very disorganised due to need of beer, food and smoke-breaks. Haha

No, you probably haven't heard of us but then that's simply because we haven't wanted you to. The Raw Deal world is going to be exposed to some of the most devastating tech you have never witnessed. Ok, this is not the first lumberjack abuse deck I have made (The Game, Dudley Family have been fairly successful builds) but I like the fact that Razor can nicely find a way around early DTTAH attempts thanks to the combination of TTI (tb) and The Tooth Pick. Once you're safe from ACE reversals, Irish whip away with hard to reverse maneuvers. Ideally the deck aims to keep at lower fortitude with it's low damage maneuvers, utilise turn the tide/turn up the heat and attempt to use Razor's ability as much as possible. If Irish whip is somehow lost, it's going to be a much more difficult way to victory. I've tried to avoid one-trick pony syndrome... I dunno there's always Turn the tide ----> Razor's edge FTW!! ;) Let me know what you guys think.

Tournament Reports / UK Raw Deal League Week 1
« on: September 28, 2013, 12:06:29 PM »
Hi all. Thought I'd post the results of our Raw deal tournament. Given that most of our players aren't consistently able to attend, we decided to run this as a league format - with everyone playing each other twice.

Adam Mills (Stephanie McMahon)
Chris Phillips (Big Poppa Pump)
Dom Wall (Mickie James)
Scott Mills (Bret Hart)
Simon Marney (Sting)
Steve H-J (New Nexus)

1st match: Sting vs Big Poppa Pump

First match of the Tournament and I draw Si's Sting. Si is pretty new to the game but he's grasped the concept of a fairly simple yet effective Sting build. With both decks being NWO build, Sting beats steiner to Bischoff (TB) which helps with a massive handsize advantage going into this match. Steiner starts with a hs of 6, Sting... 14. I couldn't even No Show, due to Sting having played Taunted by chanting fans and Playing By The Rules (TB)  :-\ .
Suffice to say, it's an uphill battle for steiner as I eat a few chain moves and a Baseball Bat. I eventually get on the board after a few Frankensteiner attempts but by that time I'm at about half deck. Game ends in style with a Scorpion Death Drop reversing my Tornado takedown of doom! Nice! Well Played Si. Sting nets 3 points.

2nd match: Bret Hart vs Stephanie Mcmahon

It's bad blood as the Mill's brothers draw each other for their first games respectively. Bret doesn't get much of a hand against Steph but he at least gets the Hitman's shades to draw up again. Backed by her father, Steph sits smugly with a massive handsize. It looks like it's montreal all over again. The match is underway and with The people's champ as the chosen enforcer, Bret Hart suffers an early beatdown. And is literally helpless against a series of girly grabs and apply Illegal leverage. It's seems you really shouldn't mess with the boss's daughter. With Scott cursing the denial of Backlash reversals, his bret deck does somehow get back into the game with a couple of scoop slams. And with steph almost having run out of maneuvers, Bret nearly makes a comeback after surviving with Through All These Years and hitting a few big chain moves. It is unfortunately too little too late in the end with Adam taking this one fairly comfortably. 3 points for steph! GG

More results to come... :)

With the revision to oswm (tb) where turns cannot be skipped, can a player choose to skip their first turn of the match as one of Mcmahon's options? I.e. Are they now forced to choose another option or are they still allowed to choose to skip without actually ending up having to skip a turn thanks to oswm?

Originally built as Nwo/Premiere Raw. I am currently experimenting with alternate builds. Main Strategy is to start out with hand destruction with the test enforcer and throwing 'hard to reverse' maneuvers. Recursion with foreign objects along with pre-match to keep her in the game. Plenty of ACE's for my opponent to think about both during the early and later stages of the game. Switch to Shane Mid-game to hit backsplash/shooting star when my opponent has no/low handsize. If Not, hopefully outlast the opponent with recursion from diva locks, hello ladies, and/or foreign objects. Any Advice is much appreciated.

So yeah, Raven makes a lot of stuff irreversible  ;D. I really wanted to take that overboard with this build. It does seem that I'm a little maneuver heavy atm and of course the tricky part is trying to get the gutbusters through. At the moment I have Where the big boys play and Drawing a blank to help them get through. Also got plenty of chairshottage to make even better use of drawing a blank. Yes, I'm missing the obvious ECW Title belt. Owning one would be ideal :-\. I imagine Raven is quite a popular build now since his new backstage card. Any tips from other Raven players would be awesome.

Ok, so my reason for posting this decklist is mainly due to the newly announced "Dynamicly Inclined" Backsatge card. The pending release of this card has been met with a collective 'groan' within my playgroup. I personally am glad to see this improvement to the dynamic build but I must agree that a Talk Loud- Hit Harder Kennedy/TFOSE seemed very strong even without this perk. Just wondered what the rest of the community thought about this build.

Note: This is the current build. ;) Tweeks will be made upon the arrival of the new Virtual Set.

Rules Forum / Old Switcheroo vs Summerslam
« on: October 09, 2012, 04:43:48 AM »
Hi, just wanted to ask a question about how the old switcheroo interacts with Summerslam (pay-per-view event). I wanted to know that when Switcheroo steals the text from Summerslam, must it then abide by the text "you must immediately play a stipulation". It seems to me as though it would have to but then what if I cannot play a stipulation once I copy Summerslam? I would assume that the Switcheroo becomes an illegal play and must be taken back. Just wondered how this works.
