Virtual Raw Deal / Wacky Deck Ideas
« on: June 27, 2020, 07:15:25 PM »
I've thought about making a thread to just celebrate old deck designs from yesterday, and thought it might be fun to do it here (so it's not lost in the random discussion and topics of Discord).

The first one I was thinking about recently was my "Evil Russian" deck. The joke started because Big Show's Survivor Series 2 superstar card was that he looked Russian to my playgroup. Around that time, It Pays to be Evil came out, and building around it was fun. Usually, though, all the rest of the named cards had some use, but no one was using this card:

Remove Corner Turnbuckle
Mid-match Action / Reversal: Special: Heel
As an action, you may place any card with the words "touch turnbuckle" in the title in your opponent's Ring area into his Ringside pile and end your turn.
As a reversal, can reverse any card with the words "touch turnbuckle" in the title, and end opponent's turn.
When this card is in your Ring area, any player must overturn the top 5 cards from his Arsenal into his Ringside pile whenever the card titled Throw Into the Corner Turnbuckle is successfully played against him. Then place this card in your Ringside pile.
F: 6     D: 0

So the concept of the deck was to Taunt for It Pays to be Evil (I don't recall if there was a way to get it back if the random discard caught it, though).  Some of the other actions helped get the initial move through, and if it went all the way through, I'd drop a Remove and end my turn. Big Show had a solid reversal base, which helped keep the games under control, while ripping off 3 turnbuckle covers.

Then came the Throw into the Corner, which caused a 15 card overturn (since DTTAH wasn't invented yet), often followed up with the irreversible Big Show Splash (9D + 6D from Throw), for a total of 30 potential cards overturned!

I didn't play the deck very competitively, but it won more often than it lost, and that wacky Evil Russian was a blast to play.

How about you guys?

Virtual Raw Deal / The Cutting Room Floor
« on: May 30, 2020, 09:55:15 AM »
Hi guys!

Since I've had Raw Deal on the brain lately, I thought it might be fun to review some of the cards and ideas that didn't make it into the game.  Back in the Comic Images days, this could happen because the Superstar was no longer with the company, or because WWE didn't approve the card title / concept / picture / whatever.  But in Virtual there were usually other reasons entirely for deciding not to use some of the concepts.

As the title seems especially timely, I'll start with this one:

We All Wear Masks...
Pre-match Event
Cannot be packed by Eugene, JBL, Raw Guest Host, Rowdy Roddy Piper, Tag Teams or Stables.  Cannot be blanked.
When packing this card, your Frankie Takes Ho-llywood is Unique; when this card is in your Ring, that card does not take up a Pre-match slot in your Ring and it is Permanent.
Before each of your Draw Segments, put up to 3 cards under this card into your Backlash.
ACE: During your turn, name a Raw Deal Superstar, and then put 4 random cards from your Backlash under this card and you count as the named superstar instead until the start of your next turn.
F: 0     D: 0     Unique     Permanent

The idea started easy enough, what if those little perks on cards could be added by just spoofing the name of your Superstar? Even without gaining any traits, just the name, several ideas came to mind. One use would be changing your name to get those Movie card 'cannot be reversed' perks. Another might be naming your Superstar Mae Young for discounts on Sloppy...Very Sloppy. There's also a number of Superstars with remakes or tag teams where certain perks aren't available, but could be if they snuck in with a fake nametag.

Design-wise, the idea was a hefty cost that could be recouped but not easily, so this effect couldn't be used every turn. I don't recall why the Frankie idea was co-opted in, whether that's a concept with adding to a future card is out of my hands now, heh.

To be clear, this card didn't even see much playtesting, as multiple issues sprang up immediately. For one, several Superstars could evade the critical Shenanigans debuffs by using the Raw Deal equivalent of 'fake mustache and glasses' - Hello, My Name is NOT Eugene, please eat copious amounts of reversal damage, haha. (I don't recall why Raw Guest Host was on the list, but it made sense at the time)

Often the reality of 'fun idea' just doesn't work in game as expansive as Raw Deal, but it's an amusing thought. Perhaps this concept could be used as a Superstar-specific idea, locked down with the necessary restrictions on the Superstar Card, but it has a high potential for abuse, and is unlikely to be worth the trouble of extensive playtesting necessary.

For what it's worth, though, here's the card image:

Virtual Raw Deal / May 19!
« on: May 19, 2020, 10:27:38 AM »
So I'm curious... I had wanted to make a card for a long time, because the whole angle was stuck in my head (and had some hilarious uses, like Shawn Michaels egging on Kane to destroy his opponent more aggressively). Then the Mid-match Storyline idea came to mind, and fit the concept of changing an angle DURING the match rather than before it.

From a design POV - it felt like BFM could use the most help, as he's basically a one-shot kinda guy, and doesn't have much to offer if his initial moves are reversed or removed. Working in the 5/19 reference was tricky, but having a high cost to play the card - but conditional ring placement - seemed fitting. It can still be playable straight up as a difficult card to reverse, limiting the scope to 'reverse any Unique' or 'Mid-match card', and giving a payoff to those Virtual 'non-maneuver' reversals.

Boosting the underplayed maneuvers may not be helpful, as they can be janky without the May 19 boost, but it seemed like an okay idea to make them potentially more playable. And of course, since the point of the May 19 angle was to promote See No Evil, there had to be a tie-in. Letting BFM get the full 'Kane' bonus all the time seemed a bit much, so it was conditional instead.

Has anyone tried this card out, and how did it work for you?

Any other wacky cards from Virtual that appealed enough to build around (whether or not it was successful)?

Eric pointed out we have a lot of old, unused topics, and TCO's forums could use a makeover. So they've been reorganized to focus on Raw Deal, first and foremost, with more of an eye toward promoting organized gameplay.

Several older, long-unused sections have been archived to make it easier to get to what people actually used.  If they fall into favor again, we can always move them back for easier access.

Enjoy!

So a couple months back, I found my new passion - making music. I'd thought about it for years, but didn't think I would be someone who could actually be a musician, between the money to buy equipment etc, and having enough talent. Turns out I'm doing okay so far, and will keep going in that direction.

I finished my first track, using the amazing vocals of a singer based out of L.A., and worked with some killer samples to build the rest of it up underneath. For those who are interested, here's the link:

Virtual Raw Deal / The B-Sides: V9B Released!
« on: July 31, 2019, 10:03:37 PM »
Yeesh, that took forever.... haha.  Well, here it is, the end of an era, leading to a new one.  Virtual 9 is finally wrapped up, though with a lighter volume than originally anticipated.

But we wanted to wrap things up and move on, so a lot of the 'missing' Superstar support that wasn't finished (Drew McIntyre, Roman Reigns, Ambrose farewell card, The Bar) will show up down the road.  Some things were ready because they were planned from the start (Jinder's cards, for example) or because they were 'shiny objects' that drew everyone's attention (Becky's I Am The Man or the new Club card).  It'd be great if there were more than 40 new cards, sorry about that.  It should be better in the future.

So here's the link to the full Virtual 9 set list, and the files are all in place and Ready for Downloading.  As noted elsewhere, the Lackey patch has been updated, and <surprise!> I've already loaded the Superstar Guides, so let me know if I missed anything.  (Flickr will get updated soon, probably in the next 24 hours, for anyone who still cares about it, haha)

And here we are.  Enjoy, have fun with the new cards, and revel in the fact that Eric and his team are already cooking up new Superstars for Virtual 10.  :)

Virtual Raw Deal / Time for a Change
« on: June 30, 2019, 10:20:25 PM »
Over the last 12 years, I've had some weeks or months where I lost interest in Raw Deal, then found it again.  However, with college and moving, and dealing with some other personal issues, that desire just hasn't been coming back.  There is still some interest in keeping Virtual going, though, and it seems the person who is most actively working to keep the game alive is Eric RD.

We've talked in the past about it, and I've decided that my lack of interest means I'm no longer the right guy to run this crazy project of ours.  So I've talked to Eric, and he's going to take the lead of Virtual Raw Deal now.  I will, of course, still be around.  We're already discussing how to get Virtual 9B finished up and released, and what comes next to work on getting new content developed, playtested, and released.

Beginning with Virtual 10, Eric will be handling things, with some 'new blood' assisting in development.  He can provide more detail, but his plan is smaller sets more often, which will likely be well-received by the players, I suspect.

I'll still be around, just more as a navigator than a pilot.  Here's to Raw Deal living on!  <raises a toast>

General Chat / [NO SPOILERS] Avengers: Endgame
« on: April 26, 2019, 12:13:55 AM »
First and foremost, no spoilers, please!

That said - WOW.  How do you give even more accolades to a film that managed to live up to the standards of 20+ movies before it, connect them together, and aim even higher than before?  Just... incredible.  Awesome.  Amazing.  Wow.

Couple quick notes, because it's very late and this is a very long movie, clocking in just over 3 hours (though it didn't feel like it!).  There are NO mid- or post-credit scenes.  There is a 'sound' at the end, but it's not a reveal or anything, more of a callback.  For those ready to beat the traffic, you're not missing anything if you bail when the credits roll and Google it, heh.

Also, these aren't really spoilers, but I'll pass along these points in the movie as points where a quick run to the restroom won't miss much.

* When the Hulk eats lunch
* When the title card says 'NEW JERSEY'

I only really had two issues with the movie, the first is too mired in spoiler territory to discuss here, but the second is simple.  What now?

Much like adding more Harry Potter, they've built around the Infinity Stones and Thanos for so long, it's difficult to see where they go from here.  Maybe the Fox acquisition will lead to an X-Universe coming to the MCU as the next 'big thing'?  Hard to say.

Anyway, highest recommendation for Endgame.  It checks all the boxes, truly fantastic film.

[No Spoilers for Raw, please]

So you know how Raw after Wrestlemania usually has some surprises?  Why not bring that to Raw Deal!

Surprise!  Thanks to EricRD (and some nitpicking micromanagement from myself, haha) we have some of the winners from Wrestlemania, and a few of the new Hall of Famers for 2019, as alternate art Superstar Cards!

Thanks again, Eric, you're amazing!  :)

General Chat / Captain Marvel [NO SPOILERS]
« on: March 08, 2019, 12:58:59 AM »
HELL yes!  Marvel Studios finally has a new film out, and it was worth the wait.  I give it a solid A, bordering on A+.  My complaints are very minimal (and spoiler-ish, except - why was Sagat fighting Bison on DHALSIM'S stage? haha) but this was a lot of fun, mysterious, full of continuity, action-packed... everything I could ask for.  AND even explained a few things in the MCU.

There's a great mid-credits scene, the post-credits scene is just humorous.  And the opening logo is an awesome tribute to Stan Lee.  Definitely recommended!

...now just have to wait 7 more weeks to Endgame...   ;D

Virtual Raw Deal / 30 Days of Raw Deal Christmas
« on: November 25, 2018, 10:06:39 AM »
The wait is almost over!  30 days from today on Christmas Day, we'll release Virtual 9, the 'A section' (new Superstars and a few additional cards).  There might be some other presents under the tree as well, heh...

To build toward that, I'll be revealing one card (maybe more) from the new set.  No requests taken, sorry.

Starting off, let's 'Gather Around' to see the first of the new stuff, along with a refresher of this Superstar:

General Chat / TCO Donations
« on: June 24, 2018, 11:13:58 AM »
I'm going to sticky this for easy reference in the future, but for those who have asked how they can donate for the efforts to keep Raw Deal going over the years, here's the information.

While I can't accept any donations for Raw Deal without a legal issue, it's certainly legal to support the website we use for it!  :)  So here's the link to the PayPal account for TCO:

TCO PayPal Donation

I've covered the website costs for a while, already paid for the domain renewal - that's the easy part.  However, the site that hosts this forum is significantly more, especially since we kept exceeding our allotted page loads and 'CPU usage', resulting in temporary shutdown, so I had to upgrade our hosting package.  The new costs are:

1 year - $420
2 years - $670
3 years - $880

It's not due for a couple months, but I want to post this now so we have plenty of time.  Covering 1 year is the goal, and we have a big headstart on that thanks to one TCOer's generosity (thanks again!)  But obviously if we can get the discounted rates for more years, then we don't need to bother for a very long time. :)

Thanks in advance for any assistance, rest assured it is GREATLY appreciated.  (...and could curry small favors like gaining a 'TCO Donor' tag if desired)

Virtual Raw Deal / 2018 Con Promos
« on: June 17, 2018, 10:57:19 AM »
Hello everyone!  It's time to announce our Con promos for this year, so you guys know what to expect.  Just a reminder first, these will be made available (just without the GenCon stamps) after GenCon, so we're asking players limit themselves to one set per person, for those in attendance only.

The primary promo card is:

Unintended CONsequences
Reversal: Special
This card is +5F for each Sidewalk Slam in your Ring.
Reverse any card that 'cannot be reversed' or any Unique antic, and put up to 1 card in your Ringside with 'GenCon' in the text into your hand.
When there are no non-F: 0 non-Chain maneuvers with printed reversal restrictions in your Ring, your Fortitude Rating is +1 for every non-Chain card in your opponent's Ring with a printed reversal restriction.
F: 0     D: 0     Unique

A sister card to One Thing To Say, with a small 'Con' effect perk.  In addition, to help balance the Revolution (and to an extent, VAA) environment, we're throwing back some of the basic reversals, and introducing two new cards.

Revolution Masochist at Heart - Throwback
Reversal: Colossal
Requirement: Overturned
When your Fortitude Rating is 5 or less, the Colossal's Fortitude is lower than your opponent's Fortitude Rating, or he is Revolution Test: ignore the Requirement.
When he is Revolution Test or he has 10+ greater Fortitude: this card can be played from Ringside.
F: 0     D: 0

Revolution I Won't Be Beat Tonight - Throwback
Reversal: Colossal
When your Fortitude Rating is 5 or less: -7F.
When it is not: put D: 1+ cards from your Ring into your Ringside until you have removed D: 4+.
When he is Revolution Test or he has 10+ greater Fortitude: -7F and can be played from Ringside.
F: 7     D: 0

Revolution Losing the Crowd's Favor
Reversal: Non-Trademark Colossal
When you have 7+ lower Fortitude, or your opponent's Fortitude Rating is lower than the Colossal's printed Fortitude: this card is F: 0.
When you have more Colossals in Ring: discard 1 random card.
When he is Revolution Test: -15F and can be played from Ringside.
F: 15     D: 0     Unique

Revolution Ruling From the Commissioner
Pre-match: Event
Requirement: No Corner in your Ring.
Cannot be blanked.
When you have fewer antics in Ring: your opponent's antics are also considered actions for your reversals, and you may put this card into your Ringside to reverse a non-Superstar-specific Unique antic.
You cannot play Corners.
Unique     Permanent

A few points in a rough FAQ on this:
* All cards listed will be available shortly after GenCon for download and print
* They will also be in Virtual 9, with different images for the set versions.
* All promos are legal for GenCon.
* There will be a FunkCon version for those players in attendance, though whether they are legal for that event is at the discretion of whoever is judging / running the event.

General Chat / Good news / Bad news

So the bad news first, that's always nice, knowing you have something to look forward to...  (And some may not find this news all that bad, heh)  But I'm probably not going to be as active on here as I usually am.  I can pop in and make sure all's well, of course, but my limited free time is going to become a LOT more limited.

The good news (for me, heh) is that I'm going back to school.  I'll be starting college classes next week toward the goal of becoming a CPA, with a long road ahead, starting with some incredibly droll prerequisite classes over the summer (English and Government).

Thankfully Revisions are in the bag for this year, and I finished a big PT update, so those are already taken care of.

Virtual Raw Deal / 2018 Revision Discussion
« on: May 22, 2018, 06:55:10 PM »
It's that time again, where we fix typos, correct oversights, tone down some accidental overpowered guys, and bring some people up from the bottom tier.  Here's some of the major talking points from the 2018 Revisions, planned to go live JUNE 1ST:

* Shenanigans - 12 new Shenanigans cards!  Just kidding, we only adjusted one with two effects.

* Mean Gene - we've danced around it for a couple years, and keep running into more issues, so an overhaul was overdue.  We've added back some effects, though, to make up for the loss of multiple TtT/TUTH.

* CM Punk - he can't 'stack' his ability across multiple turns, as amusing as that was (and oversight we left in for kicks), but he's received a lot of support now and it's time to refine the ability to prevent unintended abuse.

* Owen Hart / Blue Blazer - we've confirmed that 'Your X is/is not Y' effects are pack effects, but these two get a pass, and we've clarified that with their Ability text.

* Rated RKO - too abusive with both Storylines, now they only use one at a time, and lowered the hand size to compensate for the missing -HS effects.  Shouldn't matter much in VC since they can now use Buying Myself Some Time (unlike Flair, heh).

* Dean Malenko - we changed the way 1000 Holds is regulated, and adjusted his effects to match.  There's a LOT less text!

* Batista - he got a powered up in V8, so we had to tone down a few of his older cards to rebalance.

There's other text and error corrections, and the following guys are getting a boost up:

Dangerous Alliance
DX
Rowdy Roddy Piper
Scotty 2 Hotty
<R> Brock

(Truthfully, there's a few more that need help but Real Life Interfered in a big way this year, so we've started the list early for 2019)

Again, the plan is to have them live on June 1st, available for download and updated in Lackey, to give preparation time for Con season.

Fire away with any questions, something we missed regarding errors, and so on.  And thanks for playing!

General Chat / [NO SPOILERS] Deadpool 2
« on: May 18, 2018, 12:01:29 AM »
Just got back from Deadpool 2, wow - I was hoping it was close to the first one in goodness, but I was blown away.  Hilarious, laughed out loud many times, and wow did Josh Brolin get Cable right.

If you liked the first one, you'll love the new one, highly recommended.  I'd say more but i'm overtired and have to finish up some work, so I'd probably spoil something by mistake.  :D

Oh - two mid-credits scene, no post-credits.

Wow.  I know, it's the usual thing where I go see the latest Marvel Studios flick the night before the official opening, then tell you guys how amazing it is... but it's late, I'm tired, and my usual superlatives feel inadequate here, heh.

But when you're talking about the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy all getting involved on a cosmic level, that also includes Earth as a key piece of the puzzle... well, they made it feel as 'big' as it should be, in so many ways.

My biggest complaint about the movie is ... we have to wait a YEAR to see the rest of this story!!   :D

Post-Credit Scenes: There is one at the very end, and the final moment has to do with something yet to come.  I don't want to say more here, but it's an easy thing to answer for those who want to Google it, hehe.

Highest recommendation, A+, all that.

Just came from Black Panther, really enjoyed it.  On par with Marvel's films of late, very enjoyable, lots of action, good characters, incredible visuals, continuity, all that.

I'd give it a solid A grade, not quite an A+ as it felt like I knew where we were going at times, though the journey was fully enjoyable.  Definitely worth it IMO.

There's two scenes at the end after the credits roll, but nothing jaw-dropping.

Oh, and there was a trailer for Solo, which comes out in May.  Looks great, definitely going to check out the prequel/origin for Han, heh.

General Chat / [SPOILERS] Royal Rumble Results
« on: January 28, 2018, 09:19:02 PM »
First off, PLEASE don't spoil Takeover for me, I had to take Gem to the hospital last night - she's okay, but they kept her for observation due to breathing issues.  I'll probably watch it tomorrow.

But THE ROYAL RUMBLE 2018 was one of the most entertaining PPVs I've seen in years.  Probably in my personal Top Five along with RR 2000.  WOW.

Great action, good amounts of nostalgia, but not too much... a little bit of everything for everyone.

(And hopefully this is enough to keep spoilers off the main page, heh)

RESULTS:

Pre-Show Matches:
* Kalisto, Dorado, Metalik d. TJP, Gallagher, Gulak:  I missed this, but Kalisto won for the lucha team with Salida Del Sol on TJP.
* The Revival d. Gallows & Anderson:  Caught parts of this, good back and forth action, and Revival takes out a knee to avenge their loss at Raw 25.
* Bobby Roode d. Mojo Rawley:  Bit of a foregone conclusion to me, but a good 7 1/2 min match anyway.  Rawley looked good without all the 'HYPE!' stuff he used before, I could stand to see these guys go again for a longer match.

Main Show:
WWE Championship:  AJ Styles d. Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn - SORT OF.  Good match with 3 great talents, played back-and-forth early on with Kevin/Sami trading time, some good false finishes, but Sami missed a tag to Kevin before getting tossed out of the ring, Kevin comes in (not the legal man) and gets rolled up.  So technically AJ wins, but Kevin/Sami yelled at Shane later for this.  Did he see that?  YEP.  :D

Smackdown Tag Titles 2/3 Falls Match: Usos d. Gable & Benjamin in 2 straight falls.  Might have been a botch on the second fall, looked like Gable was supposed to dive in and break up the pin, but he landed a bit short.  Hard to say, that could have been planned, but a solid tag match up to that point, everyone looked great.

ROYAL RUMBLE MATCH (Men):  Wait, this is going on now?  Wow.  This was SO entertaining, like the 'old days' with a few surprise returns (either for fun or for Wow!), and some small stories along the way.  Rusev and Bálor start out, Finn would do the 'last until the end' bit making it to the Final Four, and looked good along the way.  Rhyno got a Philly pop, then Corbin tossed him, but got eliminated and destroyed everyone.

...including Slater as Heath was entering at #6, with everyone beating him up on the way to the ring being a hilarious running joke, even Big E stopped to shove pancakes in his mouth!  Elias came in after Heath and had time to play a song before Andrade "Cien" Almas (!) arrived.  Tye Dillinger should have been #10, but Sami & Kevin beat him up backstage and Zayn 'stole' his spot.

Sheamus came out at #11, tossing Heath into the ring, only to get Slater'ed out immediately!  Too funny!  New Day ended up all in the ring together, amidst other names like Nakamura and Cesaro.  Jinder eliminated Woods and Big E, but trying to get Kofi out, Kingston landed on Xavier!  They used a plate of pancakes to keep his foot off the ground, finally catapulting Kofi back into the ring, and he tossed Jinder in payback!

Seth Rollins was in at #18 and eliminated Cesaro, playing into the tag match later.  Woken Matt Hardy arrived and fought with Bray, they stopped to eliminate one or two guys before taking each other out of the match.  John Cena came in at #20 (he never arrives early for these matches!) and everyone jumped him, haha.  They lost interest, so he ended up eliminating Elias.

The Hurricane showed up at #21!  He tried to Hurrislam Cena and got immediately tossed out!  :D  #23 was ADAM COLE BAYBAY!  Big surprise there, but not as big as REY MYSTERIO at #27 WTF?!?!

Orton and Miz came in between those two as the star power continued to rise, then Roman Reigns (ugh) arrived at #28.  He briefly teamed with Rollins to toss out Miz, then turned on Seth and eliminated him!  What a jerk.  :)  Goldust was in at #29, and a disappointing Ziggler returned at #30, but didn't do much before being eliminated by Nakamura and Bálor.

6 men were left, with Cena / Rey / Orton on one side and Finn / Shinsuke / Reigns on the other - new school vs. old school!  Orton and Rey were next to go, leaving the Final Four.  Cena and Reigns knocked down the other two, and got a 'You both suck!' chant, heh

After some back-and-forth action, Cena eliminated Bálor to the crowd's dismay, then Nakamura eliminated Cena!  Which led to the inevitable Roman Reigns wi - KINSHASA!  REIGNS IS OUT!

WINNER:  Shinsuke Nakamura!!  YES!

How do you make that even better?  When asked which champion he wanted to face at Wrestlemania, he said AJ STYLES!  YES! YES! YES!

Raw Tag Title Match:  The Bar (Cesaro/Sheamus) d. Rollins & Jordan, New (4-Time) Champs
Amusing way to cover a legit injury to Jordan's back, Sheamus posted him early on, and he appeared woozy and disoriented.  Rollins finally made the hot tag, but Jordan staggered briefly in the ring, then tagged himself back out, haha!  Never seen that before... Seth put up a valiant effort but was beaten and lost.

WWE Universal Title Match:  Brock d. Kane (and Braun)
A wacky, wild, brawling, slamming, smashing hot mess that was fun to watch.  Since there is 'no DQ in a Triple Threat match' (sure, let's go with that), they broke tables, smashed the announcers' tables, used chairs and stairs, etc.  Brock finally shoved Braun out of the ring and F-5'ed Kane for the win, leaving with Heyman while Strowman yelled from the ring 'You didn't beat me!'  "Worst" match of the night but still fun and decent.

ROYAL RUMBLE MATCH (Women):  Wow, give them credit, they really made this a big deal, AND the main event!  We thought it would open the show, give some separation before the men's match.  Kudos!  Stephanie was on commentary, and Maria Menounos was the ring announcer.

Sasha and Becky started, as I thought they lasted for quite a while.  The first surprise return was Lita at #5, she kicked some ass for a while, including a moonsault onto both Banks and Lynch.  Kairi Sane (Mae Young Classic winner) got a great pop and some good offense, but was dumped by Dana Brooke, who was in turn eliminated by Torrie Wilson!

The new women called up from NXT recently (Absolution, Riott Squad) filled in, then Molly Holly and Michelle McCool arrived.  Michelle eliminated three people rather quickly, including Lana and Molly.  Vickie Guerrero came in for the comedy spot, screaming EXCUSE ME until everyone stopped to throw her out.  Carmella came out next, so Vickie smacked her with the MITB case as she was leaving, haha.

Natalya was out at #18, and dropped her ring gear on Carmella at ringside in a funny spot.  Kelly Kelly and Jacqueline also arrived, though neither did a lot.  Naomi played the Kofi Kingston role, landing on people at ringside, walking on the barricade, borrowing Maria Menounos's chair to get to the stairs, and coming back into the ring - only to get tossed out by Nia Jax.

Jax did big woman stuff, but was knocked out of the ring for a while, finally getting the 'everyone throw her out' spot later.  Ember Moon arrived at #23, banged up from her NXT match the night before.  Beth Phoenix was out next, squared off well with Nia Jax, and had a brief Divas Of Doom reunion before Natalya turned on her and ejected her former partner.

Then everything got serious as Asuka arrived at #25.  Business is about to pick up!  Nice bit where she and Ember came face to face, Moon got in a few shots including an Eclipse on Asuka.  Later, Asuka would use the injured arm to eliminate Ember in some nice psychology.

Mickie James, the Bella Twins, Bayley, and holy crap Trish Stratus were the final five to enter.  Trish and Mickie had a nice face-off, but James was eliminated in the exchange.  Sasha was able to eliminated Trish, and the Final Four was Banks, Asuka, and the Bella Twins.

The other three teamed up on Asuka, but Sasha got too mouthy, and when she went for the diving knees in the corner, the Bellas pushed her out.  Then Nikki tossed her sister, and had a good exchange with Asuka, but ultimately was kicked off the apron and eliminated.

WINNER:  Asuka!

The women's champions stepped into the ring and held up their titles with great anticipation, would Asuka choose the rival in Alexa Bliss, or the more physical match against Charlotte....

I DON'T GIVE A DAMN ABOUT MY BAD REPUTATION

Ronda Rousey arrived, with a Piper-ish logo and wearing one of his old jackets (a nice gesture by Roddy's son!).  She came to the ring and offered a handshake to Asuka, who slapped her hand and grinned.  Rousey pointed to the Wrestlemania sign, then left the ring to where Stephanie was.  She offered another handshake, Stephanie slowly accepted.  Ronda exited to the ramp, pointing to the Wrestlemania sign once more as the show ended.

...WOW.  Fantastic show.  Nothing I didn't like, great surprise to close the show, just all around fun.

Highly recommended!

There were some really good movies this year, though it seems like not as many overall.  Could just be my personal tastes of course, but figured a list of what I enjoyed might be a fun discussion as to what others liked.  Might also highlight some overlooked films.

In no particular order, I'd say my top 10 new films for last year were:

Star Wars: The Last Jedi
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2
Thor: Ragnarok
Spider-man: Homecoming
Wonder Woman
Logan
Get Out
The Accountant
The Nice Guys
Baby Driver

(Honorable mentions to: Split, It, Justice League, and Happy Death Day cuz I like Groundhog Day types, heh.)

Most the superhero/blockbuster stuff is obvious, but here's a couple you might have missed:

* The Accountant - title sounds boring, movie is not.  Basically a high-functioning autistic man (Ben Affleck) handles forensic accounting, but is also quite the bad-ass.  A fun story with lots of twists and turns, and way more action that the title suggests.

* The Nice Guys - Stars Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling, two PIs in 70s Los Angeles investigate a dead girl recently seen alive, leading to a much bigger scheme.  Lots of banter, some good action, I liked all the main characters.

* Baby Driver - I'm finding there's two types of people, those who love this movie, and those who haven't seen it.  :)  The plot is simple enough, but the execution is amazing.  Musical cues fit perfectly into the action, excellent cinematography, tons of small foreshadowing items, callbacks, good dialogue, great action... this one may well crack my All Time Top Ten.  Highest recommendation.

What did you see and like?
