Professional Wrestling Discussion / NXT: Wargames [SPOILERS]

WOW.  I renewed my subscription for this show (admittedly early for the crazy rebooked TLC), and it delivered!

* Lars Sullivan d. Kassius Ohno
This was a short match, Ohno brought the fight to Lars but Sullivan is another BIG MONSTER and was just too much.  'Worst' match of the night, only in the sense of being ranked last, but perfectly acceptable.

* Aleister Black d. Velveteen Dream
Arguably the best match of the night!  They had a good story coming in, the match and story delivered way beyond expectations, and kept my interest the whole time.  Definitely one of the highlights of this show.

* Ember Moon d. Sane / Cross / Royce - New NXT Women's Champion
This was a fast sprint, everyone stayed busy, good spots.  In a nice touch, Asuka came in the ring to present Ember with the title and hugged her.  Not great, but really good and fun to watch.

* Andrade 'Cien' Almas d. Drew McIntyre - New NXT World Champion
Almas seemed to be wasted months ago, but with his new manager, it's brought him a freshness to his character.  Good back and forth match, though unfortunately it appears Drew was injured on the finish (top rope DDT) as his arm caught the rope.  Triple H said on the post-show interview that it appears to be a torn bicep. :(

* Undisputed Era d. Sanity & AOP/Strong in WarGames
Let's get this out of the way right off.  The changes made sense.  No roof = top of the cage spot, plus leaving means you lose, so there's not really a downside.  Shark cages = one team doesn't obliterate someone outside the cage with whatever weapons they bring, since there's no DQ.  Sending in teams instead of dudes = speeding up the first half of the match, since it can't be won during that time anyway.

This match DELIVERED, far beyond my expectations.  Sanity was the last team in (UE went first) and brought in weapons, including the crowd-requested tables, heh.  Lots of chaotic spots, clever moves and uses, VERY impressive stuff from Killian Dane of Sanity, including a Coast-to-Coast from the big man.  Everyone looked good, it was wild and intense, my only complaint was that after everything, the final move - running knee to a guy holding a chair - seemed a bit tame by comparison.  Still, great overall, very well done.

And yes, there was blood (though not intentional, it appeared).


Very strong show, NXT delivers yet again, and makes SurSer seem like it will pale in comparison, heh.

  • The good:  Mainly Wargames and Black/Dream
  • The bad:    Not much, really, even the least impressive stuff was still good
  • The ugly:   Drake Wuertz's (Younger's) tan, it looked Trump-ish and he seemed to be on the screen way too much for a ref, making it more obvious.  :D

Bottom line - watch this if you can.

Oddly, I feel like I should just cut & paste my Thor post here.  The movie was better than anticipated, I laughed more than expected... it was a pleasant surprise.  More like Wonder Woman than BvS.

If you could only see one, I feel like Thor gets a slight edge, but neither is a bad choice.  It's nice to see DC getting their act together.

FYI: One mid-credit scene, one post-credit scene.

WOW.  Highly impressed by the new Thor movie.  No one gave it the memo that the third movie in a trilogy usually sucks, and it was in our opinion the best of the 3 Thor flicks!

I was as surprised by this as I was with Guardians of the Galaxy.  There wasn't much downtime or slowness, things were regularly happening... good cast, great humor, special effects were excellent.  Best movie I've seen since Spider-man: Homecoming.

Post credit scenes: 2.  Mid-credits scene is kinda cruel heh.

If you want to dress up as a WWE Superstar, you have to have all the right accessories, so here's some accessories for the Superstars in Raw Deal.  (Terrible segue, I know, best I could do....)  :)

The files are ready for download here, and the full text list is updated here.  (Superstar Guides will be updated in the next day or so, I'll post when it is completed.)

There's some changes to Virtual 8, a couple fixes and corrections.  This file contains those cards:

For those who have asked how they can donate, I've actually tried to cover support website costs without it, but the upcoming renewal for the hosting will be a bit of a burden.  It's $323 for 1 year, with increasing discounts if renewed for 2 or 3 years.

Wonder Woman is the best DC movie since the Dark Knight trilogy, definitely recommended.  It does remind me quite a bit of the 1st Captain America, but in good ways.  And unlike some of the recent DC flicks, they remembered to be funny and develop characters.

It's that time again, we're rolling out a new year's worth of revisions.  The list of all the changes will follow, but here's the important points:

* NXT Format: The two biggest complaints are being dealt with, Elimination Chamber will be banned, and the 3MW feud gets an errata version for the format. Also, Yo! Kill da Beat! is banned, but a Throwback is coming in Virtual 8.

* Bottom of the Barrel:  We've taken over a dozen Superstars that just weren't good and overhauled them, with revisions and new support coming in Virtual 8.  (Keep in mind you won't see the full picture until the set is released, though).  Names include Steiner Brothers, DDP, Brutus Beefcake, Rick Rude, Sheriff Austin, <R> Balls Mahoney, and Mick Foley.

* Shenanigan Shuffle:  In an effort to make the Shenanigans cards less overwhelming, some of the effects have been moved around, or removed entirely.  For example, all of the card-blanking effects (including a new one on Kill da Beat!) are on Enough Shenanigans, and the 'no Doink' text is removed since it's irrelevant due to blocking Shenanigans cards from Doink's ability.  We've also added two new effects:
** BASH + Skirt won't work together (but Divas have another option in V8)
** Straight Shootin' Interview is now Active

* Some general changes:
** OS Cage Match allows a bit more leeway over what it blocks.
** OS Wrestling Match TB only causes burn after the Draw Segment, so no Showtime silliness.
** Dallas Texas won't count the opponent's Superstar-specific reversals
** You Missed Your Chance now hits Superplex.
** No JBL on Drawing a Blank
** Goobledygooker requires being 10F or more behind to use the protection
** WCW Allegiance ACE only works for maneuvers, not 'cards'.
** Crucifix Roll Up TB closes the loophole from Nostalgia Shenanigans
** <R> Cole's Corner doesn't work on SS antics
** <R> Powerful Resistance now works as designed, like Over Sell

* Some tone-downs for overpowered Superstars, including:
** People's Team Pre-match is reworked, no -1 to SSA numbers
** Stephanie's V1 Pre-match ACE is more costly, and no FF/Cheater removal on her non-Uniques
** Michael Cole can't use Corners, and his Jack Swagger action doesn't 'bounce'
** Charlotte is a 4/4 and her Backstage card lowers the card advantage she gains

* Some improvements for Superstars,such as:
** Rhyno's BSC makes the Can Lid more useful
** Umaga can use his faction in VAA
** Evolution's BSC works during any turn
** <R> Daniel Bryan can play his R-Pre-match from Ringside, and his Mid-match also reverses Momentum

* Various fixes and adjustments, as usual.

Virtual Raw Deal / Tournament Prize Errata

Here's a subject we're having trouble deciding.  We've already done this once with Zack Ryder and Candace Michelle GRAs, but now we've found another card with a loophole that needs to be closed.  As noted above, we could go two ways about this.

My concern is taking away from the tournament prize cards 'value', but at the same time, we want people to enjoy the game and not everyone is able to obtain the tournament prizes as it is.

As an 'alternate image', I'm thinking something similar to the original tag team title belts, available in the IAATG tin with a general picture instead of a 'title belt' type format.

[The card in question isn't as relevant as the overall issue, thus the lack of specifics, other than it is a title belt card.  We won't be explaining at this time, as I don't want to skew the results depending on which one it is.]

What say you, players, which do you think is the better option?

Just came from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 - Phenomenal movie!

Great from beginning to end, loved it.  Definitely as good as the first one,and I liked that a majority of what I'd seen in the occasional trailer etc. happened in the early part of the movie.  Some great cameos too, of course.

My only complaints, and they are very minor... no use of Sweet's "Fox on the Run" as advertised in the commercials, though lots of other great tracks.  And no obvious connection to the major story arc, not even in the post-credit scenes.  It's okay, it's a stronger story for it and all, just ... aww.

But those are very quibbles, not enough to make the movie bad.  Highly encouraged, and Baby Groot is hilarious (as are several other things).  And yeah, there are several post-credit scenes, basically all played for humor though.  Well, except for that one...

It's Wrestlemania Weekend!  So until the end of the Pay Per View, we'll randomly be revealing the 16 Superstars in Virtual 8: Over the Edge.

SIXTEEN?!  That's right, our new limit for Classic sets is 15, but this set is.. well, you get the idea.  :)

It's been noted that we don't have a rule in place to determine what happens if a played card has no destination.  This is an extremely rare case, as an action which would not go to the Ring (Iron Will, Roll Out of the Way, as examples) will still go to the intended destination if blanked.  The only example we're currently aware of has to do with Revolution BOD:

Revolution BROTHERS OF DESTRUCTION
Starting Hand Size: 6     Superstar Value: 7
Tag Team Superstar Ability: When you would discard any number of cards, you may instead overturn twice that many cards.
You can pack Kane and Undertaker Revolution maneuvers; you cannot pack Corners.

And the relevance here is, what happens when you play a non-maneuver that says 'discard this card and...' but replace the discard with the Ability?  The card being played isn't in the hand, it's in the zone where cards are being played.  Since we don't have a specific rule for this, we're defining it.  It will go to the Ringside, similar to how cards under other cards will default to the Ringside if they don't have another destination specified.

NOTE:  This is not an override, if a card says 'remove this card from the game' and it is blanked, it is still removed.  This rule ONLY relates to cards that somehow lose their destination, they will default to the Ringside instead.

Please review carefully before asking any follow up questions, as we've tried to cover all the bases, and this covers a VERY small window of circumstance, heh.  Thanks.

General Chat / Request for Help

I don't generally ask for things, as much as possible I just take care of what needs to be done.  But today is the day I ask.

Gem, my girlfriend, is very disabled.  She worked in hospitals for 25 years taking care of people, and got injured twice on the job.  Her left arm has limited functionality, and her back injury has caused severe pain along her sciatica nerves, which in turn causes her to fall; basically, she lives in varying degrees of constant pain every day.  We've been after disability for her for nearly 4 years, and workers compensation has been frozen by the Oklahoma governor.

The one spark of light has been her service dog, a shepherd/whippet mix named Kiwi; smart, cute, sweet, protective girl, she's brought a lot of joy to Gem's life and helped her want to live again.  Kiwi has helped Gem when she starts to fall, stands protectively in front of her when strangers approach, and even went to get help from neighbors once when Gem fell outside and I was at work. Couldn't ask for a better addition to our family.


...Today, Kiwi was attacked, viciously and unprovoked, by a friend's dog.  (He's apparently getting old, perhaps senile, and animal control was already called to take him away)  Part of her belly and leg were severely damaged, and she's lucky to be alive, as a major artery was missed by mere centimeters.

The local animal hospital was able to stitch the wound closed, though it is still very touch-and-go, and assuming she makes it, its doubtful she'll have full use of her leg again.  A whippet is similar to a greyhound, so she was quite the runner... it pains me to think she might never even walk again.

The vet did what he could, but said it's very possible she'll need a skin graft to properly close the wound, as there was a lot of damaged skin that couldn't be used.  He suggested a GoFundMe account for the skin graft, as it runs $4-5K, so Gem put one together tonight.

Please - even if you can't help personally, please post it on your social media, get the word out.  Normally, I'm not the kind to ask for assistance, but this is just too important not to.

Professional Wrestling Discussion / [NO SPOILERS] UK Tournament

Just finished watching the WWE UK Tournament on the network, thumbs WAY up for this.  Great showing by a bunch of guys I hadn't really heard of, good story told, impressive wrestling, hot crowd ... even the commentary was good, as Cole didn't have Vince in his ear, and Nigel had good insights.

2 parts, 2 hours, fantastic action.  Even a surprising 'bonus match' thrown in before the finals.

Just came from the preview, good movie.  It was more of a 'war movie' than I expected, but still very entertaining.  Fun characters, pleasant surprises (really good CGI work, if you catch my drift), definitely worth seeing once.

Oh, no post-credit scenes though.  Once the credits start, feel free to bail.

Unlike Episode 7, which I saw 3 times in the theater, I'm in no rush to see this again soon though.  Fun at first but gets heavy.  Overall, glad I saw it, well recommended.

Just came from the early premiere, unsurprisingly Marvel Studios made another awesome film.  Sure, critics might nitpick, but we found it engaging and immersive.  Effects were incredible all around.

FYI:  There is a mid-credits scene, and a post-credits scene.

Highly recommended!
