Tournament Announcements / The TCO Fundraiser Tournament!
« on: October 21, 2020, 11:17:11 AM »
TCO isn't free. There's a cost to keep these forums going and to host the Virtual cards. I figure since we're the ones benefiting from utilizing the Virtual cards, why not take this chance to give back...and host a tournament at the same time!

Here are the details:
1. Format: Virtual Classic
2. Games are to take place on OCTGN, the only online system that supports the entire VC library.
3. Single elimination, 16 player event. I'm capping at 16 to prevent 10 first round byes. Pairings will be generated randomly.
4. Pairings will be posted Monday and you have one week to complete your match-up. Failure to do so will result in double elimination. Please be aware of this before committing to the event. If you are the player unable to make times work, you may also forfeit.
5. Official results will be posted here, but feel free to use Discord too.
6. I don't want to track decklists, so feel free to use any superstar you wish each round. In the event of diversity, I suggest both re-picking superstars or rolling a D20 and loser switches superstars.
7. Cost: $5 in your local currency or US funds. I'm not picky, I'm sure Creeds not picky. If you want to donate more, that's also appreciated! Please donate here:
8. Prizing - I'll have a little something for the winner.

Please sign up below and round 1 will start Monday October 26!

Hello all!

The online scene has been hopping recently, while most of us face stay at home orders over the last two months. Having just completed an online event, the community is clamoring for more!

So, without further ado, I'm announcing The King of TCO Tournament presented by the Backlash Podcast!

Here are the details:
1. Format: Virtual Classic
2. Games are to take place on OCTGN, the only online system that supports the entire VC library.
3. Single elminination, either 16 or 32 player. If we get close to 32, we may hand out a few "bye"s for the first round. Pairings will be created randomly.
4. Pairings will be posted Monday and you have one week to complete your match-up. Failure to do so will result in double elimination. Please be aware of this before committing to the event. If you are the player unable to make times work, you may also forfeit.
5. Official results will be posted here, but feel free to use Discord too.
6. To register for TCO, please first join the Discord Channel: and then message Eric RD and he'll set you up.

Please DO NOT use the following superstars, as they were used in the last event:
Pete Dunne
Sid Vicious
Vickie Guerrero
Luke Harper
Braun Strowman
Johnny Gargano
The Brood
The Crippler

Please sign up with your superstar below, first come, first served in the superstar picking. Alternatively, you can PM me your superstar and I will just post your name below and can keep track to ensure there are no duplicate superstars as there will be no duplicates allowed. Sign up cutoff will be Monday when I post the first round pairings.

I almost forgot the most important part! The prizes! Who doesn't love prizes? There are two of them. Winner chooses 1, 2nd place gets the other.

1) A Foil Alternate Art Shield Face Card that was exclusively given out at the 2019 North American Championship.
2) The card "Backlash" with Eric's and I's mug on it.

Let the games begin and have some fun!

I will start by entering myself with John Morrision.

Virtual Deck Reviews / Back to Basics Dolph Ziggler
« on: May 20, 2020, 10:45:43 AM »
Back 2 Basics Ziggler

Pre-match – Play them all

McMahonsim – Each of Dolph’s moves have printed stun, and each B2B move can add stun with Showoff. I can either draw cards for stun or recover cards with Dolph’s ability, depending on game state.
Dubuque – Dolph recovers actions and moves nicely, Dubuque is used to recover reversals.
B2B – Packing 13 moves under it.
Old School Cage Match – I prefer this over OSWM. Can be equally disruptive, plus give +3 prematch slots.
Old School Manager – Free slot, can be flipped with Record Scratch.
Old School Psych x3 – The key to destroying opponents hand.
Old School Antics x2 – Free slots, they only recover 1, but can be flipped with Record Scratch.
Old School Belt – If it sees play, it’s the key to getting on board.
Old School Donnybrook - Wrecks any hand set up. Keep an Oversell.

Sustained Damage – Great when combo’ed with Oversell and Stealing the Show.
Don’t Cross a McMahon – Backlash deck action reversal often catches opponents off-guard.
Teaser Mode – Can search for Face the Music or Feeling Lucky (or opponent can RTV it if they want to discard 3) Makes Face the Music playable at 0F too.
Number One Contender – A lot of belts in virtual. Search for any card can be amazing. Late game, can grab Dolph’s Leaping DDT that reverses ANY card for 10D.
King Interferes – Dolphs specifics are not Smackdown, so this deck is technically Raw branded.

Arsenal Notes
I’m not packing Elbow to the Face because I want to oversell everything I can so opponent has to discard more (1 for each oversell in ring). Willing to take suggestions on other holes you may see, this is first draft.

Destroy the opponent’s hand ASAP. 3x Ring Psych limits their mid-match options, but once you have 2-3 Oversell in ring, basically your moves become chain, where the opponent MUST discard cards to play reversals from hand or backlash. Build your hand by drawing stun and stacking what you draw with McMahonism.

Known Weaknesses
Heat decks (headstrong and action reversals from ringside)
Managed by Vince/Bitter Rivals (or other cards that get rid of the belt)

I really enjoy this deck in the 3 games I've played. Not sure how much fun it is for opponent once their hand is gone though…

Your opponent must discard 2 cards to play reversals to your non chain heat maneuvers played from hand, and must overturn 2 cards to reverse your heat maneuvers played from ringside.

Does your opponent have to overturn to reverse heat from ringside to attempt to reverse on overturn as well?

Rules Forum / Heenan Family + Sustain vs. DTTAH
« on: April 02, 2019, 01:09:07 PM »
Here's the scenario:

I am playing Heenan Family. I have Sustained Damage in play. I play a grapple, my opponent plays Spinebuster. I attempt to "sustain" the damage and my opponent plays Don't Try This At Home. What happens??

The Heenan Family     (Andre the Giant, 8th Wonder, Mr. Perfect, Rick Rude, Brain Busters, Bobby Heenan logos)
Pre-match Faction
You can pack this card regardless of Superstar, except Eugene.
You are now a Heenan Family Member.
Your Unique reversals are not affected by your opponent's card effects.
When your logo is printed on this card, your Managed by Bobby "The Brain" Heenan is Permanent and when you use that card to look at your own Arsenal, you may choose to put both cards on the bottom of your Arsenal instead.
F: 0     D: 0     Unique     Permanent

Sustained Damage
Mid-match Reversal: Special
Can only be played if your opponent plays a maneuver and you do not reverse it from your hand; does not end opponent's turn.
When this card is in your Ring area, you may discard any number of cards from your hand whenever you must overturn cards from damage to reduce the damage by 2 for each card discarded. You may not discard any further cards once you have begun to overturn cards from your Arsenal.
F: 0   D: 0

Don't Try This at Home
Action / Reversal: Special
As an action, search your Arsenal for the card titled From the Top Rope, reveal it to your opponent, put it into your hand, and shuffle your Arsenal.
As a reversal, when played from your hand, reverse any Activated Card Effect, put that card into your opponent's Ringside pile, he discards 2 cards, and end his turn.

Pre-match Object
Cannot be blanked.
Put Bray Wyatt from your Backstage Area on top of this card.
During your turn, when your Arsenal contains 15 or less cards, you may put Bray Wyatt from on top of this card into your Backstage Area revealed; that Ability is added to your Ability.
When your opponent moves a non-Superstar-specific card from his Ringside without playing a card or Activating a Stipulation, you may draw 1 card.
F: 0      D: 0     Unique     Permanent

If someone uses the effects of I Can’t Be Reading This Right, the Opponent is removing one card and picking up the ICBRTR.

Bray would draw 2 cards?

Same for Back Body Drop to pick up a set up? Draw 2 cards?

Would the same apply for Once Again Kissing Up to the Fans, where you remove 8 cards to search for a cheater or Fan Fav? Draw 8?

I suppose it comes down to: Is “remove” the same as “move”?

Reversal: Special: Heat
Can only be played from your Ringside pile.
When played from your Ringside pile, reverse any non-Set-up Action card and end your opponent's turn. Search your Arsenal for 1 Maneuver card without text, reveal it to him, put it into your hand, and shuffle your Arsenal. On your next turn, if your first card played is not a maneuver without text, discard your hand and end your turn.
F: 9      D: 0

If I play this, then in my turn Activate a card and my opponent plays Don’t Try This At Home, so I discard my hand or no?

Had this deck built as heel for over 12 months and recently switched to face before the tournament today. I think, overall, it was much more effective as a Face deck. Had 1 win by pin, 1 win by count-out and 3 double-losses (due to time limit). This deck can turtle like crazy, but has a tough time pulling off the W in 45 minutes.

I think the weakest point is, and always has been the pre-match. I think there's wiggle room with Marquee, Backed by the BFFs and Always on my Winning Side, so open to suggestions there.

The mid-match is tight. I played all 12 cards today at least 3 times in my 5 matches today.

I might look for room for another Get A Look At These, but another suggestion to put away an opponent other than by chucking huge submissions every turn is appreciated.

Any other glaring holes I am missing?

The Horsemen Have Something to Say About That
Mid-match Reversal: Special
When Once A Horseman, Always A Horseman is in your Ring, during your opponent's turn when he successfully plays a D: 4+ card (when you are The Four Horsemen, any card), you may put this card from your Backlash into your Ring and his turn ends.
When this card is in your Ring, before each of your Draw Segments, he overturns 2 cards; during his turn, he can overturn 4 cards and then put this card into your Ringside.
When this card is in your Ringside, you may discard 4 cards and then put this card in your Backlash and end your turn.

Does this card blank the text and damage of the 4D+ card?

Rules Forum / Team Hell No Ability Clarification
« on: October 06, 2017, 01:03:31 PM »
Team Hell No
Starting Hand Size: 8     Superstar Value: 4
Tag Team Superstar Ability: When you successfully play a Superstar-specific card, randomly choose 1 card in your Ringside, and then either shuffle that card into your Arsenal and draw 1 card, or your opponent overturns 1 card.
You can pack Daniel Bryan and Kane non-Trademark Finisher Unique Arsenal maneuvers, and they are not Raw. You cannot pack any title belts except the Tag Team Title Belts, or Corners.

Does the shuffle only happen if you chose to draw 1 card, or does it happen regardless of choice?

The New Face of the Divas Division
Backstage Card
Can only be packed by a Throwback Superstar.
When you have 5+ lower Fortitude, your opponent cannot play D: 2+ reversals to your F:0 maneuvers that do not have a printed reversal restriction.
Once during each of your turns you may reveal your hand; when there are no maneuvers in your hand, you may then search your Arsenal for 1 non-Unique non-reversal F: 0 maneuver, reveal it, put it in your hand, and shuffle.

Pre-match Event
Can only be packed by a Throwback Superstar.  Cannot be blanked.
Your opponent's non-Unique reversals deal no damage, and when their text would cause you to lose the game via Pinfall Victory, the game continues.
When you reveal your hand for The New Face of the Divas Division or his effects, put up to 1 card from your hand under this card. Cards under this card can be played as if from hand.

Built the prematch last and I feel it needs the most work. Backstage Politics was there to open up midmatch slots by removing reversals, but I can do that with Drastic Times, but BP is not an ACE, I just rely on the opponent to steal it. I may add a reversal like Don't Cross a McMahon or Power Struggle to help that process. Bikini contest was to trigger the 5 stun value win on Backslide/Inside Cradle, but so far it's won twice just on the fortitude condition (yay, Shoot Actions!) The rest is there for defense/disruption. Might add another asset retrieval. Key of the deck is to get 4 fortitude and throwing a Puppies and Slap every turn. It can win surprisingly quickly, but tips are appreciated.

"Before each of your Draw Segments, hide 1 other Superstar card and choose 1 Superstar Card to reveal. Revealed Superstar cards add their ability to this ability"

Few questions:
1) How does the initial NXT superstar card get into play?
2) Is the switch mandatory?
3) Can you choose the same superstar as soon as you hide him?
4) If the game goes long enough and all but one is removed, what happens?

I plan on playing these guys on the weekend and want to clear all confusion ahead of time.

Got the itch to give them a try! I'm looking at Nexus Swarm, where you can play two 0F strikes from hand together like a panic grab. What have people used in past?

I'm thinking of combining Blindside Hook with Super Punch. Possibly adding Handcuffed. Another option is to throw Poke into the mix. Having never used them or seen them played, what's popular?

Rules Forum / Mae Young and the "On One" Arena
« on: June 22, 2016, 12:15:09 PM »
Mae Young
Starting Hand Size: 0
Superstar Value: 0
Superstar Ability:
You cannot play maneuvers of 3D or greater. Your Arsenal may only contain 45 cards. Your cards titled Puppies! Puppies! are Set-up cards, -10F, and read as "Shuffle up to 5 cards from your Ringside pile into your Arsenal, draw 2 cards, your opponent overturns 2 cards, and end your turn."

The "On One" Arena, Ontario, California
Pre-match Venue
ACE:  When your opponent reverses any card from Arsenal on the first card, you may put this card into your Ringside, and then discard 2 cards and continue your turn.  When played at the Adam Crites Memorial Tournament, do not discard any cards.
When this card is in your Ringside and he reverses any card from Arsenal on the first card, you may remove this card from the game, discard 2 cards and continue your turn.

If Mae Young plays Puppies! Puppies! and the opponent overturns Divine Intervention on the first card, can Mae Young use the ACE of "On One" to continue the turn, even though Puppies! says the turn ends anyway?

Virtual Raw Deal / Hassan Prematch Ideas
« on: May 09, 2016, 02:09:09 PM »
Hey all - working on Hassan for the first time. I guess it's what you'd call a standard heat deck. Here's the prematch. Are there any uniques (that become heat with his ability) that it's missing? Vince GRA is on my short list, and I'm not a fan of Managed by Daivari. I'm wondering if First of All is even needed if it's a straight heat deck. Discuss! (Or ask questions for more clarification).

The deck could have used a few more moves to pick up the pace...Don't think I successfully played a non-backlash deck action all day, so that'd be my first area to cut. I used No Way Out in the round robin, but decided not to play it during the top cut. I mostly used it to fuel Thrust Knee Lifts, but with my lack of recovery late game No Way Out hurt more than helped. I'd add back another Iron Will (I cut one right before the tourney for a Vice Lock to search off Ready to Fight) but never played the Vice Lock all day.

I also played Suicide Strike twice and I think it cost me the game both times. Probably just error on my judgement of playing it. Both of those games I had No Way Out in play, and the combo of those two probably hurt more than helped.

Went 2-2 in Swiss, landing 4th in the top 4 cut. Beat 1st place, then beat 2nd place to win it all, both of whom I lost to in round robin. Fun times.

Rules Forum / Some Tornado Tag Questions
« on: September 15, 2015, 09:29:49 AM »
We are having a Classic tornado tag tourney coming up and have a few questions.

1) We understand specific feuds (like V1 etc) that replace abilities only work for the logo-ed superstar. It also extends to cards like Regal Readying (so the partner's ability cards aren't multis too) and Shut the hell up (so the partners ability discard effects aren't random)...but does that also extend to cards like the Rock's "Know Your Role..."?

In the past, we've been using Know Your Role for both SS to increase slots, have we been playing it wrong?

2) If I am Lita/Trish and I play Everyone Wants to Watch Women Wrestle against Jake/Torrie, what happens? Do we get to choose the option?

Everyone Wants to Watch Women Wrestle
Can only be packed by a Female Superstar.
When your opponent is a Male Superstar, search his Arsenal for 3 non-unique Maneuver cards, remove them from the game, and he shuffles his Arsenal.
When your opponent is a Female Superstar, this card is -1F, discard this card and your opponent discards 1 card.

General Chat / WWE SUPERCARD Season 2
« on: August 20, 2015, 05:37:49 AM »
What's everyone think of the new Supercard season so far? I'm assuming you all play, of course.

Things I like:
A fresh start
New card design
New superstars

Things I don't like:
Having two 'different' sets of cards.

Not sure about:
Divas - like the tag idea, having 3 in KotR will everntually work out, but I remember when season 1 started, getting ONE good diva was the hardest thing ever, let alone 3, so we'll see.

That's all for now. I've only played 15 games in exhibition and cracked a diva to start a KotR, so we'll see how that goes.

*Edit* Just cracked my first Super Rare - a diva. Also, noticed that ladder rewards give you free divas, so might "Not sure about divas" issue has been resolved.

Classic Deck Reviews / Rene Dupree
« on: July 20, 2015, 02:50:34 PM »
Here's the Dupree deck I played at the most recent event (tourney report to come shortly via the manager)
Basic idea was to get It Pays to be Evil and Bait Opponent and use FLAU to plunge a move that does 8D and to plunge Test of Strength. Turns out, its a really hard combo to pull off when people pack Fortitude Surge! So, after game 3, I ditched that strategy and went with Aggro Dupree via Pump Kick, Clutch, Apply or whatever I could hit after clearing their hand with Fifi. Deck went 5-1. Lost to BFM, but won in the rematch (after I switched strategies).

*A star denotes a card I did not play the entire day.
