Rules Forum / Re: Goldberg and pre-match question
« on: August 11, 2020, 12:54:12 PM »
Just to confirm that I have the timing right, at the end of the Pre-match phase, I would have 9 cards in hand (Houston, TX has hand size at 5, add 2 for High Fives, and 2 for No Show). I can pitch 8 cards to remove 4 of my opponent's pre-match cards, and as long as I have 1 heel card in hand, I can draw up to 10 cards as my SHS?

You would have 10 cards in hand. Best Laid Plans says that you draw "until they have... their printed Starting Hand Size," (+2) not "draw your Starting Hand Size." Every card in your hand when that effect triggers reduces the number of cards you would draw.

From the point at which you discard everything for GOOOOOOOOLDBERG, you would:

- Add 2 cards into your hand from A No Show
- Reveal a heel card for Best Laid Plans, then draw until you had 10 cards in hand.

Rules Forum / Goldberg and pre-match question
« on: August 11, 2020, 12:28:41 PM »
I'm hoping someone can confirm if the below is correct when it comes to Goldberg and this pre-match scenario:

Say I'm playing Goldberg and I go first.  I play:

Houston, Texas
You and your opponent draw 6 cards.  Randomly pick 1 card in his hand.  If it is an Action of Maneuver card, he discards it and you randomly pick another card.  If it is a non-hybrid Reversal card, he discards it and you stop picking cards.  Discard cards until you have the same number of cards in your hand as him.  All players' Starting Hand Sizes are -3

Goooolllllllllddddd d-berg!
At the end of the Pre-match phase, discard any number of cards.  Put 1 card without the Tag Team logo from your opponent's Ring area into his Ringside pile for every 2 cards discarded.  I would ditch all cards except the 2 heel cards from A No Show to remove 4 of my opponents Pre-match cards.

A No Show
Search your Arsenal for 2 cards, put them under this card, and shuffle your Arsenal.  At the end of your opponent's Pre-match phase, reveal the cards under this card, put any Heel cards with different titles into your hand and remove any other cards from the game.  Then put this car into your Backlash deck and then play 1 non Active non-unique Pre-match event. (I pop it for Givin' 'em High Fives - Reveal the top 5 cards of your arsenal, put 2 into your hand, and remove the rest from the game)

The Best Laid Plans...
You cannot pack this card if you are packing Face cards. After all players' Pre-match phases, before the first turn of the game, all players with fewer cards in their hand than their printed Starting Hand Size draw cards until they have cards in their hand equal to their printed Starting Hand Size.  If any player first reveals a Heel card in his hand, he instead draws to his printed Starting Hand Size +2

By playing all the above, would Goldberg's Starting Hand Size after the pre-match be 14?  SHS 8 + 2 heel cards + Best Laid Plans + High Fives.  Is my math correct?

Classic Deck Reviews / Re: Coming back to the game and need deck help.

Thanks Creed!  I appreciate the advice.

I think our group will be staying classic, but I'll have to check out his virtual cards.

Thanks again!

Chavo gains a LOT in the Virtual sets, though you might not have explored that avenue yet. However, his core engine still works well. He has several options as you mention, but you could use a mix of them and try to strike a balance. Sometimes you're tossing that High Risk for more recursion, sometimes you're picking it up to launch an offense.

FYI - he doesn't have a UR TMF, he had the Inverted Powerbomb (which is kind of 'meh' IMO) from the Los Guerreros set, the non-Unique Premium Rare called The Gory Bomb, and his URs were the One for One reversal in No Way Out, and The Three Amigos in Great American Bash. (Also, he gets Third Generation Superstar from Randy Orton's set, and the El Paso, Texas Venue along with Eddie)

To me, he definitely leans Smackdown so one idea is to use the US Title to reach 3SV and Premiere Smackdown Superstar for more card draw, which further reduces the opponent's Pre-match slots with Chavo's My Life For You Pre-match. Then you can fetch Diving Takedowns to whittle down an opponent's hand while building your own.

Alternately, you could go with the Technical set, since every one fetches another Technical as a maneuver, so you could get a Tech. Stomp or Splash, then discard it to put some cards back (including a Technical!)

Some cards you might look at:

Counter Slash - could be helpful early on, since they can't be Elbowed or hit with Revolution of the Mind. Later on when they are more reversible as the opponent's Fortitude rises, use them for the Ability instead.
Flying Leg Scissors TB - with the US title, or any other Smackdown PM, you can get hit and respond with Dirty Low Blow into this as a 2/8 High Risk.
Flying Clothesline TB - a 5/10 HR that can be played after any maneuver, so Sustained Damage won't limit your ability to play this card for a big Fortitude jump.

Hopefully these ideas help!

Classic Deck Reviews / Coming back to the game and need deck help.
« on: August 01, 2020, 08:42:06 AM »
Hi all.  I'm coming back to the game after being out for 5+ years.  Going through my cards I decided to challenge myself and make a Chavo deck.  I have no idea of how I should build him, however.  Would he be decent as a control deck, tossing High Risks for reversals and recursion?  Perhaps aggro with Multis and High Risks?  I'm missing his UR finisher but I believe I have everything else.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  TIA!

I would suggest taking out Duchess and put in Lumberjack Match instead.

Classic Raw Deal / Re: Suggestions for Miz?

I built a chain Miz with unbreakable chain combos. So whether opponent reverse my chain cards, I get to search for another chain card to play. No fear of don't try for discarding because of I came to play, if there is a need for extra boost in hand or recovery, just refer to nowinski and backstage interview for help. So far it has done well but if momentum is not generated and opponent got a really good hand to counter every single thing, then it would be a tough game.

Cool, thanks!  I'll give that a shot!

Classic Raw Deal / Suggestions for Miz?
« on: June 21, 2013, 06:51:29 PM »
I have yet to build anything from the new release, but I have my sights on Miz.  Looking at this ability, I'm wondering what the best way to build him as.  Heat seems natural because of all the discarding in his ability, and nothing else really comes to mind at the moment.  Perhaps there is another obvious build that I am missing.

Any other suggestions on how to build Miz?  Thanks for any suggestions!

Now this is a new low for the WWE....

Like they mentioned in the story, why send a framed picture of Mae Young?

Matt countered with this on his Youtube video:

"I took a breathalyzer immediately on the spot and it read clean, zero, nothing. Think about peeps! There's more to this story than meets the eye.

Still, Matt had made too many problems for TNA, so his release should justify.

And released he has been...

WWE ice cream bars > John Cena.  Love it that ice cream bars get a bigger pop than Cena in his home town!  :D

You need to be able to string together two moves in a row without killing your opponent. To that end I suspect a heel Lashley with Clutch-Apply would work. I made it work with Raven back in the day but it was much harder to stop clutch-apply than it is now. Generally speaking you need a big hand and moves that won't get reversed on the overturn but I suspect most could do it.

So how about a Funaki chain build with Bitter Rivals/It's Showtime/IAATG?

Or maybe Anderson with Politics/Argue w/ Chimmel to reduce their hand size?

Just throwing out ideas....

Has anyone had any luck with this build?  If so, who did you use and what was the strategy?

Professional Wrestling Discussion / Re: CM Punk > WWE

CM Punk once again has proved he is absolute GOLD.  How this man is not the top heel in the company is beyond me.  The only sad thing is, wherever he goes I won't be able to see him.

Any chance we get a card based on this promo?   ;D

No particular order:

Trish Stratus
Stacey Keibler (Maybe Leg Show would be better suited than Playboy?)  ;)
Kelly Kelly
Beth Phoenix
Gail Kim
Molly Holly
Eve Torres

Off the top of my head I have to go with the 'choppy choppy pee pee' with Val Venis from back in the day, as racial as it was  :P

Also, in no particular order:  McMahon's "It was me all along, Austin!" reveal, just about anything from Flair from the late 80's/early 90's, and many a Mankind promo from when he started with the E, until he became kid friendly..  :P

I'm sure there's a lot more I'm missing, but that's all that comes to my mind at the time....

Gotta say, when Edge won last night I fully expected Miz to lose given the E's track record in booking.  In that sense that was surprising.  But not having a tag, IC or US title defense at your biggest show of the year is unforgivable.  Guess it goes to show what the E thinks of those titles, at at least those who hold them.

Have to admit, I love tons of stoopid... and I have technical cards out the wahzoo, so looks like I have options.  Thanks!!

So I recently traded for a full set of Rikishi, and I'm wondering how to build him.  I know Heat is the obvious choice but I only have one Headstrong so that really isn't an option for me.  Any ideas?

20 (Pro Wrestling Report)

They have a great podcast and radio show on ESPN radio out of Wisconsin, but it is heard international, per the number of international callers (Canada, Japan, etc), and an excellent website.  The amount of wrestlers they have on the show is phenomenal.  I highly recommend their podcast, which can be downloaded off of iTunes.

I appreciate all the help guys.  I think I have it down between Carlito and Kennedy.  When I get time I'll whip a deck and post it up for your critique, and go from there!

Classic Raw Deal / Re: Anyone know a really crazy deck builder?
« on: October 06, 2010, 05:12:26 PM »
Hmmm.  I thought there was no 'right' way to play any superstar.  My Babe Volley deck was feared for a while in out playgroup.

No I was looking for more crazy deck stories than help with this deck.  I'll leave it to him to post the deck list and get help.

I once took a Babe of the Year Volley Buried Alive deck to a tourney and got yelled at by Barron for not playing her "right" which was heat.  This was right after Armageddon debuted.

Thanks to everyone that have replied!  I'm running Classic, with no Revo or virtual cards.

Going through my cards I've also found Carlito, Sable, Stacy and a passable Victoria (missing some of her cards).

What set is First of All from?  I'm not familiar with the card.  I have DiBiase, but I'm thinking of running him more Presicion.

So from X-Pac, Mr. Kennedy, Stone Cold, Carlito, Sable, Stacy and Victoria who would you suggest to run Shoot in?  Now that I take a second look at Sable she might be more suited to Heat.

I've been going through my card and came across a good selection of Shoot cards, so now I'm wondering what Superstar would be best for shoot?  So being a semi smart guy, I decided to come to TCO to get some ideas.  As of this moment I have RVD/Mr. PPV, Babe of the Year, SCSA, Mr. Kennedy (missing his Mic), JBL and Xpac to choose from.  Any suggestions as to who of these Shoot would work with best?

Thanks for any and all suggestions!
