Is that how Extreme Warfare interacts with Maintain Hold? Per it's text, the played maneuver is just applying damage/card effects, not actually being played again on subsequent turns.

It's still a brutal card to maintain, but I'm not sure if, once maintained, it still can only be reversed from arsenal.

I believe (don't quote me) that it does work. Maintain is essentially "playing" the card each turn. That's why it can interact with something like Evening Gown Match or Golddusts SSA.

General Discussion: Raw Deal / Superstar Strategy Session #8: Rhyno
« on: May 16, 2019, 07:01:06 PM »
My goal is to spotlight and break down a different superstar every week by going in depth on their cards, referenced cards, and different types of builds for them.

I posted a poll on the TCO discord channel and this week's superstar this strategy session is the first dedicated to a classic Raw Deal Superstar, Rhyno!

PART ONE
Let's take a look at his specifics:

Quote
Rhyno
Starting Hand Size: 7     Superstar Value: 1
Superstar Ability: Your Foreign Object cards do not have the Raw logo. Once during each of your turns, you may reveal cards from the top of your Arsenal until you reveal a Foreign Object. Put that card into your hand and the rest into your Ringside pile.
INX, SS3

Nothing too special to report here. A 7 Hand Size is pretty good, and easy to boost up with Underrated Superstar and other cards. His superstar ability is akin to Billy Gunn’s, only with a lot more downside (for now). A few Foreign Objects have the Raw Logo, so it’s nice that he can pack those freely. However, his other cards change a few things about his superstar ability, so lets just keep going.

Quote
The Last Original ECW World Champion
Backstage Card
When you use your Ability, shuffle the revealed cards into your Arsenal instead.
Your opponent cannot respond to your Rhyno’s Garbage Can and it now reads: "ACE: When you successfully play a maneuver without a printed reversal restriction, you may put this card into your Ringside and then search your Arsenal or Ringside for another Rhyno-specific card, reveal it, put it in your hand, and shuffle."
Unique     ECW logo     RMS logo
V1

There we go, NOW he’s ECW Billy Gunn by not losing the revealed cards. This makes his ability MUCH better. Rhyno’s Garbage Can also gets a boost (Because the first effect of this card covers it’s original text). Now your opponent cannot respond to it, which will help if you want to play a card that “Can only be played after a card.”

This card also allows Rhyno to pack The House That Hardcore Built, which is a great card.

Quote

The Manbeast of NXT
Backstage Card
When packing this card, you can pack From NXT to WWE, but you cannot pack non-Superstar-specific printed Foreign Objects.
Your F:5- maneuvers without 'can only be reversed' in the text are considered F:0 and Foreign Objects for your other Rhyno-specific cards and effects.
During any turn when you successfully play a maneuver with printed Stun Value, choose one: Promo: 2, put up to 1 non-reversal card from Ringside on the bottom of your Arsenal, or remove 1 card in your opponent’s Ringside from the game.
Unique     RMS logo     NXT logo
V8

There’s a lot to unpack with this card, as it basically gives you a completely new way to play Rhyno. Firstly, being able to pack From NXT to WWE is good because it gives you a free Underrated Superstar, but Rhyno doesn’t get to take advantage of that cards other effects.

Secondly, this card prevents you from packing Non-Specific printed FO’s. Well that certainly goes against the ECW spirit, BUT…

Thirdly, “Your F:5- maneuvers without 'can only be reversed' in the text are considered F:0 and Foreign Objects for your other Rhyno-specific cards and effects.” Alright, Now Rhyno becomes the NXT Billy Gunn.

Fourthly, “During any turn when you successfully play a maneuver with printed Stun Value, choose one: Promo: 2, put up to 1 non-reversal card from Ringside on the bottom of your Arsenal, or remove 1 card in your opponent’s Ringside from the game.” This part gives Rhyno a lot of options when he successfully plays a maneuver. Help build your hand with a promo, recover a card, or remove an important card in your opponent’s ringside.

This card also interacts with a few effects we’ll cover in a bit.

My ONLY complaint about this card is that it technically doesn't interact with The House That Hardcore Built. But that might be too greedy.

Quote

Extreme Warfare
Pre-match Stipulation
When the first card played during each player's turn is a maneuver, it can only be reversed from their opponent's Arsenal.
F: 0     D: 0     Unique     Permanent     Smackdown logo
INX, SS3

Whoa boy, this card is a game changer. And as good as this card is for Rhyno, it can also backfire VERY easily. Remember, Rhyno cannot play Restricted Use to his opponent’s maneuver affected by this card UNLESS his opponent is also modifying that maneuver with a card. We’ll discuss this card a little further in Part 3.

Quote

Unleash the Beast
Pre-match Event
When this card is in your Ring area, you cannot play non-unique non-F:0 maneuvers unless they are Foreign Objects. During each of your turns, your Foreign Object maneuvers are +#D, where # is equal to the number of cards revealed for your Superstar Ability that turn.
F: 0     D: 0     Unique     Permanent
VEN, SS3

This is the card that makes an NXT Rhyno build work. With ALL of your F:5- maneuvers being considered F:0 and Foreign Objects, you can add some serious damage to your maneuvers. Of course, this obviously works with a straight forward ECW Foreign Object Rhyno build too.

Quote

The GORE Machine
Pre-match Event
This card and Unleash the Beast cannot be blanked and do not take up Pre-match slots in your Ring.
You may overturn 6 cards; if you do and he starts the game, he skips his first turn.
Your opponent cannot respond to your Taunt the Crowd, and when Unleash the Beast adds 5+D to a maneuver, that maneuver cannot be reversed by non-Superstar-specific reversals from Backlash.
F: 0     D: 0     Unique     Permanent
V8

I really like this card. Firstly, it allows you the chance to go first by overturning 6 cards. The Taunt The Crowd effect is negligible (we’ll see why in a bit). But the best effect is the last one – Adding a backlash reversal restriction to your maneuvers if they meet the criteria. So this card combined with Extreme Warfare can give your opponent very few reversal options for your first two maneuvers (more on this in Part 3).

Quote

Rhyno's Extreme Intensity
Pre-match Storyline
Cannot be blanked.
Cannot be played when Extreme Warfare is in your Ring; you cannot put that card into your Ring.
ACE: Once during each of your turns, you may discard # cards, where # is the number of D: 2+ cards in your Ring +2; and then your opponent reveals his hand, choose 1 card, and he discards the chosen card.  This effect cannot be reversed.
F: 0     D: 0     Unique     Permanent     ECW logo
V3

Yet another card that can completely change your Rhyno build. Losing Extreme Warfare, but gaining an irreversible cousin to Collegiate Champions. This card is obviously easier to activate early in the game, before your ring fills up with maneuvers, but it can be a great way to help push your maneuvers through.

Quote

Taunt the Crowd
Mid-match Action
Can only be played as your first card of the turn.
Your next 3 Action cards played this turn cannot be reversed.
During your opponent's next turn, his maneuvers cannot be reversed from your Arsenal and you cannot play the card titled Over Sell Maneuver.
F: 10     D: 0     Unique
ARM

This card probably isn’t worth packing in today’s Raw Deal meta. The downside is far too great.

Quote

GORE! GORE! GORE!
Mid-match Trademark Finisher / Reversal: Special
As a maneuver, can only be played after a successfully played maneuver and cannot be reversed when that maneuver was 10D or greater.
As a reversal, reverse any maneuver and end your opponent's turn.
F: 50     D: 30     SV: 3     Unique     Smackdown logo
INX, SS3

This is a great card. F:50 is very high, but with the cards listed above, it can be very easy to reach that number. I’ll say 99% of the time you’ll be playing this card as a reversal – it’s too good not to. Having said that, an irreversible trademark finisher can win games. Point being, this card is incredible.

That’s it for his backlash specifics. A lot of good stuff. Now let’s check out the arsenal specifics:

Quote

Rhyno’s Belly-to-Belly Suplex
Grapple + Grapple / Action + Action
As a maneuver, your opponent discards 1 random card.
As an action, this card is -6F; shuffle this card and up to 1 of your cards removed from the game into your Arsenal and draw up to 1 card.  You cannot play this card as an action for the rest of the turn.
When your next card played this turn is Rhyno-specific, you may ignore the 'Can only be played...' text.
F: 6     D: 8     SV: 1     Unique     Multi
V8

This is a solid card all around. A cheaply priced multi Grapple with a good discard effect, or a Multi F:0 action that can help you recover RFG cards. Nothing bad with this one.

Quote
Rhyno Stampede
Strike + Strike
F: 10     D: 10     SV: 1     Unique     Multi     Smackdown logo
INX, SS3

Plain old meat and potatoes multi strike. Not a must pack, but not a bad card either.

Quote

Rhyno’s Spinebuster
Grapple / Reversal: Special
As a maneuver, this card is -20F, and when you have 10+ lower Fortitude, can be played from Ringside.
As a reversal, reverse any Grapple or Action; when this card reverses from Arsenal, you may put it into your Ring.
F: 20     D: 8     SV: 1     Unique
V8

This is another great card. As a maneuver, this can certainly help you start a comeback if you fall behind early. And as a reversal, it gives you 8F regardless of how it reverses. And action reversals that deal this much damage are ALWAYS fun to throw at your opponent.

Quote

Rhyno's Garbage Can
Action: Foreign Object
When this card is in your Ring area, if you reveal cards for your Superstar Ability, you may put this card into your Ringside pile after you reveal a Foreign Object to shuffle all other revealed cards into your Arsenal.
F: 0     D: 0     Unique     Smackdown logo
INX, SS3

Lets refresh your memory on what this card actually does:
"ACE: When you successfully play a maneuver without a printed reversal restriction, you may put this card into your Ringside and then search your Arsenal or Ringside for another Rhyno-specific card, reveal it, put it in your hand, and shuffle."

I like this card early in the game. It can help you get the spinebuster into your hand, or the belly to belly suplex if an important card is RFG. And if you have Chicago Street Fight in your ring, you can keep picking this card up each time you activate it. And remember that this card say “Printed reversal restriction,” so cards effected by Extreme Warefare (or another card) will still let you search.

Wowwww... First things first, the only reason not to pack the throwback version is if you just don't own it. As far as what the card actually does, holy crap is it good. There are a lot of maneuvers with a lot of stun value, so you can easily assume that you can discard 2 cards to reverse ANY MANEUVER. That's amazing. The hardest part is just getting this action to stick, but once it does you're golden.

Quote
Unstoppable
Action / Reversal: Special
As a reversal, reverse any non-unique maneuver and end your opponent's turn.
When this card is in your Ring area, whenever you successfully play a Foreign Object, you may shuffle up to 3 cards from your Ringside pile into your Arsenal.
F: 6     D: 0     Unique     Smackdown logo
DO, SS3

I really like this card as well. And it works brilliantly with any reasonable Rhyno build. Either a regular FO build, or an NXT build can really benefit from this card. Recoverying any 3 cards when you successfully play a maneuver (or foreign object action) is very good – and it's not even once per turn!

Quote
Get Up! GET UP!

Can only be played as a Counter, and your opponent cannot respond to this card.
Reveal 1 card with 'spear' or 'gore' in the title in your hand, Backlash, Ringside or your cards removed from the game; you may play that card from that area as your next card this turn, it is -20F, ignore the 'can only be played...' text, and it can only be reversed by Superstar-specific cards or from Arsenal.
During your turn, you may discard this card and draw 1 card.
F: 30     D: 0     Unique     RMS logo
V8

This card is just OKAY for Rhyno. He probably benefits the least of those who can pack this card. Like I said before, Rhyno is typically going to play GORE as a reversal, so even with the bonus reversal restrictions this card gives it, just wait a few more turns and GORE them as a reversal.

That's all of Rhyno's specifics. I think he has a lot of really good cards.

PART TWO
Now let's look at a few non-specific cards that can be helpful for Rhyno.

A few cards mentioned earlier:

Quote
The House That Hardcore Built
Backstage Card
This card is considered Superstar-specific.
Can only be packed when you have an ECW card in your Backstage Area.  When packing this card, you cannot pack nWo cards.
Your Foreign Objects are -4F, and your opponent’s non-Unique reversals to your Foreign Object and Extreme cards deal no damage.
Your Revolution ECW Originals gains your logo, and cards with "ECW" in the title do not take up a Pre-match slot in your Ring.
Unique     ECW logo     RMS logo

From NXT to WWE
Pre-match Event
Can only be packed by an NXT Superstar.  Cannot be blanked.
This card and Underrated Superstar do not take up a Pre-match slot in your Ring.
When you draw for your Ability, draw up to 1 additional card, and when you move cards into your Arsenal for your Ability, move up to 1 additional card.
F: 0     D: 0     Unique     Permanent

I think I'm going to end part 2 early because I'm going to cover a lot of cards in...

PART THREE
Specific Build Types

Rhyno is an interesting superstar. His specifics give you a lot of options.

First Idea: ECW/Foreign Object

a. Obviously this is the standard Rhyno build. Foreign Objects (with House That Hardcore Built) are still very powerful. I typically go with a face build for my FO decks, primarily for...

Quote
Everything and the Kitchen Sink
Strike: Foreign Object: Face
When played, choose up to 2 Foreign Object maneuvers in your Ringside pile not titled Everything and the Kitchen Sink. Those maneuvers are considered played from your hand and are played in the order of your choice after this card. Resolve each card's effects and damage before the next card is considered played. After all of these cards have been played, if any have been reversed, your turn ends.
SV: 1
F: 14       D: 6

This is a great card, and especially for Rhyno with Extreme Warefare. If they can only reverse the Sink from Arsenal, then all of the maneuvers played with it will be successful.

And how about combining this build with these two cards:

Quote
SummerSlam
Pre-match Pay-Per-View Event
Can only be played when you have a Feud and a Stipulation card in your Ring area.
You must immediately play a Stipulation card.
Choose 1 Stipulation card in your opponent's Ring area and that card is blank.
Permanent
Unique
F: 0       D: 0

First Blood Match
Pre-match Stipulation
Cannot be packed by a Female Superstar.
Can only be played when there is a Feud card in any Ring area.
Any player that has at least 6 Foreign Object Maneuver cards in his Ring area, or at least 3 Foreign Object Maneuver cards and then successfully plays the card titled Busted Wide Open, wins the game via Pinfall victory.
Active
Permanent
F: 0      D: 0

Rhyno could theoretically win after 6 turns if he has these two and Extreme Warfare in his ring. Possibly sooner is Kitchen Sink hits. Could be very annoying for your opponent. As for what feud to use, Trash Talking Interview could work to clear your opponent's hand of a maneuver they could play, or Tech in a Bottle could fetch you a Kitchen Sink.

Kitchen Sink also will make discarding FO's a viable option for using Sustained Damage when your opponent play an Extreme Warfare protected maneuver.

b. Punch/Brass Nuks

Quote
Brass "Nuks" Shot (SS2)
Strike: Foreign Object / Reversal: High Risk: Heel
As a reversal, reverse any High Risk maneuver and end your opponent's turn.
When this card is in your Ring area, your cards titled Haymaker, European Uppercut, and your cards with the word "punch" in the title are +2D and they cannot be reversed from your opponent's Arsenal.
Active
F: 3      D: 5

This card is F:0, and easy to get in your opening hand. If Extreme Warfare pushes this maneuver through, then your opponent has very few reversal options to your punches and euro uppercuts.

Second Idea: NXT

This one is a lot more diverse than the standard Foreign Object Rhyno, so I'll going to break this down into a few sub-ideas. (also, please NOTE that all of these can also work without using the NXT backstage card)

a. Volley

First, There are a lot of good volley maneuvers that are F:5-. Also, most volley maneuvers have printed Stun Value, so they will interact with both The Manbeast, and the last effect of The Manbeast of NXT. It will also help keep your hand replenished if your maneuver is reversed from arsenal. You may want to consider adding a few of these:

Quote
Stun the Crowd
Pre-match Event
When this card is in your Ring area, your cards with Stun Value are +1D and +1 Stun Value.
F: 0      D: 0

Adding Stun to your maneuvers adds cards to your hand, adding cards to your hand will give you plenty of cards to Sustain your opponent's maneuvers.

b. Mono-Submission

Picture this, You throw a bunch of good F:5- submissions, you reach F:10 and play this card:

Quote
Maintain Hold
Action + Action
Can only be played after a successfully played non-Restricted-Modification-Symbol Submission maneuver.
End your turn. The maintained maneuver is not considered a Multi maneuver. You and your opponent cannot play any cards that do not reverse the maintained maneuver until it is reversed. Once during each of your turns, the maintained maneuver does its damage along with any effects. If the maintained maneuver is reversed, it is no longer considered maintained.
Multi
Throwback
F: 10      D: 0

Now your opponent cannot play cards until your maneuver is reversed, and if you have Exreme Warfare in your ring, then he has to hope to overturn a submission reversal. A submission like Judo Choke wouldn't be a bad card to consider, knowing it'll likely be successful.

How about this one:

Quote
Bear Hug
Submission: Chain
When successfully played, look at the top 5 cards of your opponent's Arsenal and put them back on the top or bottom of his Arsenal in any order.
Throwback
F: 1      D: 5

When this maneuver is maintained, it has potential to be maintained for a long time.

Point Being – Maintain Hold can be deadly in a Rhyno deck with Extreme Warfare.

c. Unorthodox Style of Wrestling

Take all the stuff I said in the last section, and then add some high risks to the mix. If you can all but guarantee that your submission will be successful, then pairing that with this can be very beneficial:

Quote
Unorthodox Style of Wrestling
Pre-match Event
When this card is in your Ring area, whenever you play a High Risk maneuver after a Submission maneuver, it cannot be reversed from your opponent's hand.
F: 0      D: 0

Translation: Your first maneuver can only be reversed from arsenal and your second maneuver cannot be reversed from hand. And if you overturn enough cards for your superstar ability, then it also cannot be reversed from backlash. It's a little out there, but that's what these articles are for.

d. BASH

Bash Headlock, Bash Suplex, and Bash Punch are all F:5-, Multi, and have generous F to D ratios. If They're protected by Extreme Warfare, then you can build your F very quickly and hit GORE pretty early. Also, notice that The Manbeast of NXT doesn't restrict you from PACKING F:5- maneuvers, only playing them. So, in theory, if you have 9 BASH maneuvers in your ring, then you can play this:

Quote
BASH: Great American Style
Mid-match Trademark Finisher
This card is -5F for every maneuver in your Ring area with “BASH” in the title.
Can only be played after a successfully played maneuver.
SV: 5
F: 50 D: 50

PART FOUR
In Conclusion:

Rhyno has a lot of potential. In the hands of a skilled Raw Deal Player, I could see him being VERY good, as long as you don't get too cute with the build. I haven't built Rhyno in the virtual era, so I may be wrong. But his ability to push maneuvers through is undeniable. He could also be a good deck for a beginning player.

Please comment anything I may have forgotten or overlooked, or if you've built Rhyno before!

I hope you enjoyed this, and hopefully learned a few things. Check back next week when I cover Kofi Kingston!

General Discussion: Raw Deal / Superstar Strategy Session #7: Sting
« on: May 08, 2019, 07:37:07 PM »
My goal is to spotlight and break down a different superstar every week by going in depth on their cards, referenced cards, and different types of builds for them.

I posted a poll on the TCO discord channel and this week's superstar this strategy session is dedicated to Sting!

PART ONE
Let's take a look at his specifics:

Quote
Sting
Starting Hand Size: 5     Superstar Value: 5
WCW Superstar Ability:  Once during each of your turns when you successfully play a Unique maneuver, shuffle up to 5 cards from your Ringside into your Arsenal.
You can pack Once a Horseman, Always a Horseman and No Sell Maneuver, ignore the "When played from your hand" text on those cards, and when they reverse from Arsenal, remove them from the game.
V2

A 5 hand size is middle of the road, but a 5 value is elite territory. Also, Sting is a WCW superstar, giving him access to a nice suite of cards I'll cover in Part 2.

As for his ability, I really like it. It gives Sting potential to survive for a loooong time. There are a ton of unique maneuvers in Raw Deal, so he has no shortage of maneuvers to trigger his ability. Plus he gets a super beefed up No Sell Maneuver – making it basically a Revolution of the Mind, just for any maneuver.
Quote
It's Showtime! - Throwback
Pre-match Event
Your Starting Hand Size is +3, and your opponent’s Starting Hand Size is -2.
His It's Showtime is blank.
When he has a maneuver card in his Ring, your Sting-specific maneuvers are -10F; when he does not, your Ability is blank.
F: 0     D: 0     Unique     Permanent     WCW logo

Oh man, this is a great card. Jumps your starting hand up to 8, and your opponent's hand gets -2, AND his ability to get the first turn is diminished with his Showtime getting blanked. But the next part really intrigues me. Getting -10F to your specific maneuvers is potentially great.

Quote
Once a Horseman, Always a Horseman
Pre-match Event
Cannot be blanked.
At the end of the Pre-match phase, draw 4 cards and when you are not The Brain Busters, put 4 cards from your hand on the bottom of your Arsenal.
When you are Ric Flair, Revolution Ric Flair, or The Four Horsemen, ignore the 'Cannot be played...' text on To Be the Man, You've Got to Beat the Man!, and when you are The Four Horsemen, that card cannot be reversed.
F: 0     D: 0     Unique
V1

This card is a good way to cycle a few cards in your opening hand, but it also gives you access to a few decent Four Horsemen themed cards.

Quote
The Man Called Sting!
Pre-match Event
This card and your It's Showtime! cannot be blanked. Your Superstar-specific Pre-Match cards do not take up Pre-Match slots in your Ring.
When you are The Stinger, when you Activate Sting-specific cards, they cannot be reversed; your Superstar-specific maneuvers are Trademark Finishers instead, and when they would be removed from the game, put them on the bottom of your Arsenal instead.
ACE: When your ability is not blank, once during each of your turns you may remove 1 card in your Ringside from the game and then draw 1 card.
F: 0     D: 0     Unique     Permanent     WCW logo
V6

Getting free pre match and mid match slots is always a good thing. But on top of that, the ACE of this card will assure that you'll always have at least a few cards in hand. Something i'll cover throughout this article is Sting's ability to always have cards in hand. This card is one of the reasons.

Quote
The Vigilante Has Come to WWE
Mid-match Action / Reversal: Special
As an action, your opponent cannot prevent you from playing this card and he cannot respond to it.
As a reversal, this card is F:0, completely reverse any Run-in, or any card with "GM" or "Chairman" in the text.
Shuffle up to 1 card removed from the game into your Arsenal.
ACE: When this card or No Sell Maneuver would be removed from the game by another effect, put up to 2 of your cards removed from the game on the bottom of your Arsenal and then remove this card from the game.
F: 8     D: 0     Unique     RMS logo
V7

This is a solid card. I wish it were just F:0 in general, but F:8 really shouldn't be too hard to attain anyway. Reversing any run-in is the type of card you're likely to reverse with this, and that's quite good with all the good diva run-ins. Now the real reason this card exists is the ACE. Being able to recycle your No Sell Maneuvers (or any other 2 cards you may have lost) is a really nice effect. And you get the effect even if it's reversed.

This is another card that can really help Sting maintain a decent hand. Of course it kind of leads you towards a Face/Fan Favorite build, but it doesn't pigeonhole you to that build if you don't want it. And the ability to get it back from any area is also quite good. Oh, and if one of your revealed cards is Let Me Get A Shot In, you can play it regardless of your fortitude haha.

On to the arsenal specifics:

Quote
Sting’s Black Baseball Bat
Strike + Strike: Foreign Object
Can only be reversed from hand by or Arsenal.
When your opponent is The Immortal One or has an nWo card in his Ring or Backstage Area, he cannot play reversal cards to this card.
F: 10     D: 8     Unique     Multi     WCW logo
V2

On its surface, this card is pretty good. But when you remember that this card is -10F as a maneuver if your opponent has a maneuver in his ring, then it's great. And the added bonus if your opponent is nWo is better than you may think (I often use the nWo allegiance). Oh, one more thing, if you are going with a Face build, this card can work rather nicely with Everything and the Kitchen Sink.

Quote
Stinger Splash
Strike + High Risk / Reversal: Special
As a maneuver, can only be played after a successfully played card or if you reversed a card to end your opponent’s turn and this is the first card played on your turn.  When played after Throw Into the Corner Turnbuckle, he cannot play reversals to this card.
As a reversal, reverse any Strike or High Risk maneuver.
F: 18     D: 8     SV: 2     Unique     Multi     WCW logo
V2

I would most likely try to save this card as a reversal, but an F:8 & D:8 Strike + High Risk Multi is also pretty good. And I would actually consider packing the non throwback Throw into the Corner Turnbuckle just to get the added 6D to this card, on top of the reversal restriction.

Sting’s Press Slam

Put up to 2 of your cards removed from the game that are not non-hybrid reversals on the bottom of your Arsenal, and your opponent discards 2 cards.

A Friendly F to D ratio, multi, 2 stun, ability to recover a few RFG cards, and makes opponent discard cards. Very good card

Quote
Scorpion Death Drop
Grapple + Trademark Finisher / Reversal: Special
As a reversal, reverse any Grapple or Trademark.
When successfully played, search your Arsenal for a Unique maneuver, reveal it, put it in your hand, and shuffle your Arsenal.
F: 30     D: 20     SV: 3     Unique     Multi     WCW / nWo logos
V2

Another card I would love to save as a reversal if I could, but still a really good maneuver (at F:20 too). This card seems to me like Sting's best way to defeat his opponent. Also an underrated card to use with in conjuncture with an Eye Rake.

Quote
Scorpion Deathlock
Trademark Finisher / Reversal: Special
When your next card played this turn is Maintain Hold, you may ignore the 'Can only be played...' text, and when that card is successfully played as your next card this turn, you win the match via Pinfall Victory.
As a reversal, this card is -10F,  reverse any Submission or Trademark Finisher with “maintain” in the text.
F: 40     D: 15     SV: 2      Unique     WCW logo
V2

This card will more than likely always be -10F no matter how you play it, which is good. The damage is a bit lacking, but when you factor in the Maintain Hold text, it means you could potentially win via the pin condition easier than if it were higher damage. And any card that reverses a Trademark Finisher is always welcome.

Quote
Sting's Muscle Pose-Down
Reversal: Special
Can only be played after a successfully played maneuver; blank that maneuver’s text and damage and end your opponent’s turn.  Shuffle up to 5 cards removed from the game into your Arsenal.
When this card is in your Ring, do not discard for No Sell Maneuver.
F: 9     D: 0     Unique     Permanent     WCW logo

Sting's version of Hulking Up. Unfortunately his is not F:0, but it's still very good. Blanking the text and damage of any successfully played maneuver is great, and shuffling in 5 cards is a good bonus, but the part I really like is not discarding for No Sell Maneuver. Even though I would like to keep recycling them from RFG as an arsenal reversal, it's nice knowing that you can throw it freely from hand to hit any maneuver.

These cards, clearly, go hand in hand. The first one on it's own it fine, giving you options for cards in hand, but the second card essentially makes it so you put 2 of those cards in hand. Being able to put cards under Where The Big Boys Play can also be valuable if you're playing from behind.

That's it for his specific cards. I believe they can be quite powerful and they interact very well together.

PART TWO
Now let's look at a few non-specific cards that can be helpful for Sting.

Sting, being a WCW superstar, has access to (or gets bonuses from) the following cards:

Quote
Where the Big Boys Play
Pre-match Allegiance: WCW
Can be played regardless of The Boogeyman’s Ability.
When you put a WCW card into your Ring, your opponent discards 1 card.
When played by a WCW Superstar, you may search your Arsenal for 2 cards and put them under this card, then shuffle.
Once during each of your turns, you may put the bottom card of your Arsenal under this card.
ACE:  Once during each of your turns, when it is not your first turn of the game and you have lower Fortitude, you may remove 2 cards under this card from the game; then look at his hand, choose 2 reversals, and they cannot be played in response to the next maneuver played this turn.

Pre-match Event
Requirement: Allegiance: WCW
When you are a WCW Superstar, this card does not take up a Pre-match slot in your Ring, and when you Activate Where the Big Boys Play, you may put the cards on the bottom of your Arsenal instead.
When Houston, Texas is not in your Ring, you and your opponent draw 4 cards, and he randomly discards cards until he discards a hybrid card; then, you discard the same number of cards.  When Flanked by Arena Security is not in any player's Ring, all players' Starting Hand Size are -2, and all players draw 3 less cards for The Best Laid Plans.

When this card is in your Ring, your opponent's non-Unique non-Superstar-specific reversals deal no more than 1D, and when you are a WCW Superstar and you have greater Fortitude, once during each of your turns you may put 1 card from under a WCW card on the bottom of your Arsenal.

Another card you should consider is:

When this card is in your Ring area or hand, your cards titled Kristal: Broadcast Beauty may replace 1 card listed on <WWE logo> Divas: The Next Generation or <WWE logo> Divas Rule!

F: 14 D: 0

I feel like I always bring this card up, but being able to manipulate your RFG cards can really make a difference.

I'll cover a few more cards in...

PART THREE
Specific build types:

First idea: There is No Escape + Uniques

Quote
There Is No Escape
Pre-match Feud
All players' maneuvers cannot be reversed by non-Superstar-specific hybrid Reversal cards. Your maneuvers also cannot be reversed from your opponent's Backlash deck.
Your maneuvers are +2 Stun Value.
You cannot play non-unique maneuvers not titled Arm Bar, Arm Bar Takedown, Arm Drag, Atomic Drop, Belly to Back Suplex, Belly to Belly Suplex, Body Slam, Chop, Clothesline, Collar & Elbow Lockup, Drop Kick, Haymaker, Head Butt, Hip Toss, Press Slam, Punch, Roundhouse Punch, Russian Leg Sweep, Snap Mare, Vertical Suplex, Wrist Lock, Backhand Slap, Drop Toe Hold, Elbow Drop, Foot Stomp, or Hammerlock.
Permanent
F: 0      D: 0

This card can, at first, seem rather restrictive. However, upon further review, it still lets you play Unique maneuvers. And with Sting's superstar ability, Unique maneuvers are what you're likely going to fill your deck with anyway. So this card gives Sting a People's Champ-like ability by restricting your opponent's backlash reversals.

As for which Unique unique maneuvers to pack, There's a whole array of “Classic” maneuvers that could help, but there's really no shortage of unique maneuvers Sting can throw.

And the icing on the cake is the +2 Stun Value to your maneuvers. Sting already has the ability to keep his hand up, but the added stun value will really make sure of it.

Second Idea: Foreign Object

This idea is perhaps a little too cute for a competitive design, but it could be quite fun. And I bring it up mainly for these cards:

Quote
Table
Strike: Foreign Object
This card is also considered to be titled Table! Table! Table! for card effects.
Cannot be reversed by Elbow to the Face, Revolution of the Mind, or Sidewalk Slam.
When playing an Extreme of printed 5D or greater, Grapple, Throw, High Risk, Trademark or Trademark Finisher without 'Maintain' in the text, you may choose this card until that maneuver finishes resolving.
ACE: When this card is chosen, put this card into your Ringside and then your successfully played maneuver is +8D and +1 Stun Value.
F: 8     D: 6     SV: 1     Unique

Chair
Strike: Foreign Object
This card is also considered to be titled Chair Shot for card effects.
When playing a Grapple, Throw, Trademark or Trademark Finisher without 'Maintain' in the text, you may choose this card until that maneuver finishes resolving.
ACE: When this card is chosen, put this card into your Ringside and then your successfully played maneuver is +4D and +1 Stun Value.
F: 10     D: 10     SV: 1     Unique

Ladder
Strike: Foreign Object
This card is also considered to be titled Ladder in the Ring for card effects.
When playing an Extreme of printed 5D or greater, Grapple, Throw, High Risk, Trademark or Trademark Finisher without 'Maintain' in the text, you may choose this card until that maneuver finishes resolving.
ACE: When this card is chosen, put this card into your Ringside and then your successfully played maneuver is +6D and +3 Stun Value.
F: 12     D: 8     SV: 2     Unique

Overhand Chairshot
Strike + Strike: Foreign Object: Heel
Cannot be packed by Female Superstars.
Cannot be reversed by the card titled Back Rake.
When this card is in your Ring area, you may put this card into your Ringside pile to reverse any Foreign Object or any card played after the card titled Roll Out of the Ring and end your opponent's turn.
Raw logo
Multi
Unique
F: 5      D: 5

Chain Lashing
Strike + Strike: Foreign Object
Cannot be packed by Female Superstars.
Can only be played after a successfully played card.
When successfully played, your opponent randomly discards 2 cards from his Backlash deck.
Throwback
Multi
Unique
SV: 2
F: 3         D: 7

All of these being unique means they will Trigger Sting's superstar ability when they are successfully played.

But the main reason I bring this up is because of this combo:

Quote
Chicago Street Fight (SS2)
Pre-match Stipulation
Overturn 3 cards.
This card is not affected by the card titled Hell in a Cell Match.
Once during each player's turn, that player may discard 1 card and then put 1 Foreign Object from his Ringside pile into his hand.
When the card titled Dem Damn Dudleyz! is in your Ring area, once during each of your turns, you may also discard 1 card and then put 1 Foreign Object from your Ring area into your hand.

F: 0      D: 0

Dem Damn Dudleyz!
Action: Foreign Object: Run-in
Search your Arsenal for 1 Foreign Object, reveal it to your opponent, put it into your hand, and shuffle your Arsenal.
Throwback
F: 3      D: 0

This allows Sting to keep recycling the same unique FO maneuvers (like Table, with all of it's reversal restrictions), and shuffle in 5 cards each turn that one is successful. And that can also help you manipulate your own F so you can activate Where The Big Boys Play more often.

Hell, you could even use this FO build and combine it with the above There Is No Escape Idea!

PART FOUR
In Conclusion:

Sting seems like a pretty straight forward superstar. Keep throwing unique maneuvers, keep shuffle cards with your ability, and keep your hand up. I've yet to build a Sting Deck, but he feels like he could be a solid superstar. In fact, Sting is probably a very good superstar to start a new player with.

I can't really think of a way or reason to improve upon Sting. He seems very balanced as is. Maybe a support card that makes him a legend, or at least able to pack Legendary Defense? But that may be a little too much for him.

Please comment anything I may have forgotten or overlooked, or if you've built Sting before!

I hope you enjoyed this, and hopefully learned a few things. Check back next week when I cover Rhyno!

Superstar Strategy Session: The Corre

My goal is to spotlight and break down a different superstar every week by going in depth on their cards, referenced cards, and different types of builds for them.

I posted a poll on the TCO discord channel and this week's superstar this strategy session is dedicated to The Corre!

PART ONE
Let's take a look at their specifics:

Quote
The Corre
Starting Hand Size: 4     Superstar Value: 4
Stable Superstar Ability:  At the end of the Pre-match phase, reveal cards from the top of your Arsenal until you have revealed 4 maneuver cards; put them into your Backstage Area and shuffle.
Once during each of your turns, you may reveal 1 maneuver from hand, shuffle it into your Arsenal, and then put 1 maneuver from your Backstage Area into your hand.
V5

First thing is first, A 4 hand and 4 value aren't tremendous, but there are plenty of ways to increase your starting hand. Secondly, The Corre is a Stable. This all but guarantees that you'll be able to play Handicap Match.

As for their superstar ability, It's certainly an interesting one. It can really help you get some key maneuvers into your hand, but there's also a little luck involved. If you like to pack hybrid reversals there's a good chance you can end up with some of them in your backstage area – which could be a good or bad thing. We'll take a closer look at this in Part 2.

Quote
Keep the Rebels Down
Backstage Card
Before starting hands are drawn, look at the top 8 cards of your Arsenal and put them back on the top and/or bottom in any order.
Once during each of your turns, choose one: your next maneuver played cannot be reversed from Backlash; OR put 1 non-hybrid reversal from your opponent's Ringside into his Ring, if you do, he puts 1 random non-Backlash maneuver from his Ringside on the bottom of his Arsenal.
Unique     RMS logo
V7

I really like this card. Firstly, it allows you to manipulate your arsenal to get a better hand, and set up your ability. Also, being able to prevent your opponent from reversing your maneuver from backlash can be a sneaky way to finish an opponent off.

However, the best part about this card is next. Being able to put a reversal from your opponent's ringside into his ring is a great effect. Let's say he has Divine Intervention in his ringside, or No Chance in Hell, or perhaps a superstar-specific reversal you don't want to deal with later – the benefits can be tremendous. A lot of Part 3 will revolve around this card.

Quote
A Group of Equals
Pre-match Event
Cannot be blanked.
Search your Arsenal for 4 The Corre-specific cards with different additional logos; reveal them, put them under this card, and shuffle.
During your turn, you may put all cards under this card in your hand.
ACE:  During your turn when there are no cards under this card, you may put this card into your Ringside, shuffle 4 cards from your Ringside into your Arsenal, and draw 4 cards.
F: 0     D: 0     Unique     Permanent
V5

The best part about this card is that putting the cards into your hand doesn't have a cost – so your opponent cannot reverse the effect. And as we'll see in a bit, The Corre has 4 trademark finishers – which is what I would search for with this card.

It's also a free way to shuffle in 4 cards from ringside, since that's the cost of the card. And if the ACE isn't reversed you get to draw 4 cards.

Quote
I'll Be Your End of Days
Mid-match Action / Reversal: Unique
As an action, your opponent cannot respond to this card.
As a reversal, this card is -4F.
When you have fewer reversals in Ring, your maneuvers are -#F, where # is the number of reversals in his Ring more than you have in your Ring.
ACE: Once during each of your turns, you may remove 1 non-Backlash reversal in your Ring from the game and then put up to 4 cards from your Ringside on the bottom of your Arsenal.  When this effect is reversed, put 1 card from your Ringside into your hand.
F: 4     D: 0     Unique     Permanent
V5

This is their best card. A F:0 unique card reversal, or a 4F action your opponent cannot respond to. This card meshes very well with their backstage card – making your manevuers a little cheaper if opponent has more reversals in his ring. But the best part of this card is the ACE. Removing a reversal from your ring to recover 4 is an amazing effect. Not only can you get those removed cards back with cards like Kristal: Broadcast Beauty and Technical Bear Hug, but it can also clear up your ring for a card like It's Hard Being This Original. You don't have to be afraid to play All Talk – No Action, or any other reversal that comes with a downside.

Now for their arsenal specifics:

Quote
Zeke's Intimidating Clothesline
Strike + Strike
When you are Ezekiel Jackson, you have lower Fortitude, and your Fortitude Rating is 5 or less, this card is F: 0.
ACE: During your opponent's turn, you may remove this card from the game to reverse any non-Superstar-specific non-maneuver card or any Run-in, and he overturns 4 cards; when you are The Corre, put this card in your Backstage instead.
F: 5     D: 9     SV: 2     Unique     Multi
V5

I like this card. Decent F to D ratio, 2 Stun Value, and a very good ACE that let's you reverse your opponent's actions, and then you can throw it as a maneuver the following turn.

Quote
Heath’s Flying Neckbreaker
High Risk / Action / Reversal: Special
As a maneuver, can only be played after a successfully played maneuver; when you are Heath Slater, can only be played after a successfully played card.
As an action, this card is -5F, put this card on the bottom of your Arsenal and put 1 card from your Ringside into your hand.
As a reversal, reverse any Strike or Action.
F: 10     D: 8     SV: 2     Unique
V5

Chances are you won't be playing this card as a maneuver. Not that it's bad by any means, but this card is, to me, better played as a reversal first, an action second, and lastly a maneuver. Maybe if it were also -5F as a maneuver then I would consider playing it as one. But a nice pain reversal to a strike or action is always welcome.

Quote
Barrett's Big Boot
Strike
When you are The Corre, this card is Multi.
ACE:  When you are Wade Barrett and this card is in your Ring, you may put it on the bottom of your Arsenal to reverse a non-Superstar-Specific non-maneuver card.
F: 10     D: 10     SV: 2     Unique

Not much to say here. A 10 for 10 multi strike is pretty good. But this is probably their worst card.

Quote
Gabriel’s Spinning Kick
Strike + High Risk / Reversal: Special
As a maneuver, this card is -6F, can only be played after a successfully played card and can only be reversed by Unique cards.
As a reversal, reverse any non-Superstar-specific non-maneuver card.

Every part of this card is good. An 8 for 6 hard to reverse multi strike/high risk, or a nice big reversal to an action. This is one of The Corre's best cards.

However, these next few cards are even better:

Quote
Bone-Crushing 450 Splash
Trademark Finisher + High Risk
As a maneuver, can only be played after a successfully played 8D+ maneuver.  Search your opponent's Arsenal, choose 1 card, remove it from the game, and they shuffle; when you are Justin Gabriel, choose 1 additional card.

Trademark Finisher / Reversal: Special
When you are Ezekiel Jackson, this card is -5F.
As a reversal, reverse any Strike, Assault, Grapple, or Throw.
Your opponent discards 3 cards.
F: 30     D: 20     SV: 3     Unique
V5

The Wasteland
Trademark Finisher
When you have either 7 or more cards with The Nexus logo, or both the cards titled From NXT Winner to Nexus Leader and Barrett's Big Boot in your Ring, this card cannot be reversed from hand or Backlash.
You may discard up to 5 cards, and your opponent overturns the same number of cards.
F: 35     D: 30     SV: 3     Unique
V5

That's a lot of beef. Four specific trademark finishers and they're all good. Two of them are solid reversals, all of them solid maneuvers. These are the 4 cards I would go and get with their specific Pre-Match. That way, when you reach about 25F, you can put all of these into your hand and start to pummel your opponent. More on these in Part 2.

Quote
The More You Try to Silence Me...
Action
This card is -#F, where # is the number of reversals in your opponent's Ring and cannot be less than 4; when it is reversed, put it in your hand instead.
He may remove # random cards in his Ringside from the game. If he does, draw 4 cards and put 4 cards from your hand on the bottom of your Arsenal. if he does not, put 4 cards from Ringside and/or removed from the game in your hand and when the next card you play is a The Corre-specific maneuver, it is -4F, +4D, and he cannot respond to it.
F: 12     D: 0     Unique
V5

So this card is already minus at least 4F, makes your opponent remove at least 4 random cards in his ringside from the game – which lets you manipulate your hand, OR, if he doesn't remove cards, you get a bunch of good effects – Including you getting to play one of your specific moves.

Quote
...The More I'm Gaining Ground
Reversal: Special
When you have fewer reversals in Ring, this card is -12F.
Reverse any maneuver, and put up to 2 maneuvers in your Ringside into your Backstage area.
F: 20     D: 0     Unique
V5

Pretty standard omni-reversal. Allows you to get 2 maneuvers into your backstage to play later using your ability. And there's a solid chance that this card will be discounted based on it's text.

That's all their specifics. All in all, I really like them.

PART 2
Non-Specifc cards that are useful for The Corre.

I referenced a couple of these in Part 1, so here's the texts:

The last few cards interact quite nicely with I'll Be Your End of Days.

I also think this card is a good pack for them:

Quote
No Way Out
Pre-match Pay-Per-View Event
Before every Draw Segment, all players overturn 1 card.
Throwback
Unique

This card will put reversals in your opponent's ringside for you to put into their ring.

And how about this one:

Quote
Flurry of Finishers - Throwback
Mid-match Action

During your turn when you are a Stable and have not played or Activated any cards this turn, you may put this card from your Backlash into your Ring.  When the next card you play this turn is a Trademark Finisher, you may play up to 1 additional Trademark Finisher from hand, Backlash, or Ringside (as if from hand or Backlash) with it, and you may ignore the 'Can only be played...' text on 1 of those cards.  Unless both maneuvers are reversed when played, both are considered successfully played; after damage is resolved, your turn ends.

YIKES. This lets you play 2 of your 4 trademark finishers at the same time. Bye bye opponent.

I'll go over a few more key cards right now in...

PART 3
Specific Build Types

The Corre is a superstar that doesn't lean toward one specific build, so there are no shortage of options.

First Idea: Dynamic

Dynamic most definitely got a boost in virtual. And this card is the biggest reason:

Quote
Dynamically Inclined
Backstage Card
Cannot be packed by Doink.
Before starting hands are drawn, search your Arsenal and Ringside for 10 non-Trademark-Finisher maneuvers with "dynamic" in the title, put them under this card, and shuffle;  if you do not, hide this card.  At the end of the Pre-match Phase, choose 1 card under this card, put it into your hand, and shuffle the other cards into your Arsenal.
Your Pre-match Capacity is +1 for each The Luck of The Draw card in your Ring greater than 1.
Your non-Unique maneuvers with "dynamic" in the title are -3F and +2D.
When you have lower Fortitude, your opponent is considered to have double the number of reversals in his Ring for your effects with "dynamic" in the title or text.
Unique     RMS logo

Also note how well this interacts with your superstar ability. With this card you can take 10 dynamic maneuvers and set them aside so they aren't piut into your backstage area – assuring you a greater chance to get other key moves in there.

But the main reason I chose Dynamic as the first idea is because of this card:

Quote
My Name is Matt Striker … and I Am Your Teacher
Mid-match Action
Can only be played when there is a card with “dynamic” in the title in your Ringside pile.
When your opponent reverses a maneuver from his hand and he has 5 or more Reversal cards in his Ring area and you have a card with “dynamic” in the title in your Ringside pile, you may put this card into your Ring area.
When this card is in your Ring area, once during each of your turns you may reveal 1 card in your hand with the word “dynamic” in the title and then search your Arsenal for 1 card with the word “dynamic” in the title, reveal it to your opponent, put it into your hand, and shuffle your Arsenal.
¶ ¶ ¶ (Activated Card Effect Symbol)
F: 0 D: 3

This card works brilliantly with Keep the Rebels Down, so you'll be able to put this card into your ring earlier than usual, giving you 9 free fortitude. This card also helps you fuel THIS card:

Quote
The Luck of the Draw
Pre-match Event: Heat
When this card is in your Ring area, once during each turn, you may discard 1 Heat maneuver or put 1 Dynamic maneuver from your hand on the bottom of your Arsenal and then draw 1 card and put 1 card from your Ringside pile on the bottom of your Arsenal.
You may put this card into your Ringside pile to completely reverse any card that allows your opponent to search his Arsenal and end his turn.
¶ ¶ ¶ (Activated Card Effect Symbol)
F: 0 D: 0

Combine 3 of these with the ACE from your mid mach and you'll be able to recover 7 cards per turn.

I actually built this deck a while ago and I had fun with it. Of course dynamic isn't the most powerful build, but if you combine it with other good cards, it's a great base. I only packed 10 dynamic maneuvers (all different because of Hard Being This Original), along with other good maneuvers like German Suplex, Atomic Lariat, and Shoot Lock Up.

Second Idea: Backed by Vickie

Quote
Backed by Smackdown GM Vickie Guerrero
Pre-match Event
Cannot be packed when packing Enforcers or by a Legend, or by Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, Latino Cheat, Rey Mysterio, Shane O'Mac, or The People's Champ.
Your opponent cannot play non-Superstar-specific non-D:0 reversals (except Manager Interferes) or Overshot Your Mark to your first non-Superstar-specific Smackdown non-F:0 maneuver played each turn.
Your next Pre-match Smackdown card played gains the text "Your Pre-match Capacity is +1."
F: 0     D: 0     Unique     Smackdown logo

Using this card and loading your deck with Smackdown maneuvers, makes your superstar ability even more powerful. Cards like Face Stretch, Key Lock, Running Clothesline (TB), Diving Bulldog, Diving Takedown, Atomic Knee Drop, and Suicide Lariat all stand a good chance of being readily available to you.

Another card that goes hand in hand with Vickie is :

Quote
Premiere Smackdown Superstar
Pre-match Event
Can only be played if your Superstar Value is 3 or greater.
When this card is in your Ring area, when you successfully play a card with the Smackdown logo, you may draw 1 card. Once during each of your turns you may discard 1 card with the Smackdown logo and then put 1 card from your Ringside pile on the bottom of your Arsenal.

F: 0      D: 0

This card can really help bulk up your hand – especially if you're using Hard Being This Original.

Third Idea: Reversal Restrictions

You can't really go wrong stocking up on hard to reverse maneuvers. And with their ability to get them in hand early, you can really open up the game. Boot Laces, German Suplexes, Atomic Lariats... chances are you'll get a few of these in your backstage for your ability.

I could go on with other specific types, but The Corre can fit really any build – be it BASH, Chain, Volley, Technical, High Risks... anything really.

PART 4
In Conclusion:

The Corre are very open, and their cards are all pretty good. In the right build, I could see them being a pesky opponent who can survive for a while. And they have 4 specific trademark finishers, which is the best way to finish off an opponent. An experienced Raw Deal player can have a lot of fun playing as these guys.

Please comment anything I may have forgotten or overlooked, or if you've built The Corre before!

I hope you enjoyed this, and hopefully learned a few things. Check back next week when I cover the icon Sting!

General Discussion: Raw Deal / Superstar Strategy Session #5: Umaga

Superstar Strategy Session: Umaga

My goal is to spotlight and break down a different superstar every week by going in depth on their cards, referenced cards, and different types of builds for them.

I posted a poll on the TCO discord channel and this week's poll ended in a tie between The Corre, and the superstar this strategy session is dedicated to, The Samoan Bulldozer UMAGA!

PART ONE
Let's take a look at his specifics:

Quote
Umaga
Starting Hand Size: 9     Superstar Value: 3
Superstar Ability:  Your opponent's maneuvers are -3D. Your Storyline adds to your Ability instead of replacing it.
You can pack No Sell Maneuver cards, but you cannot pack non-hybrid Action cards or non-hybrid Antic cards without 'powerhouse' in the text.
V3

Umaga has a nice big hand size, and a middle of the pack superstar value, so his stats are pretty good. As for his ability, -3D to all of your opponent's maneuvers is nothing to undervalue. And there are a lot of cards that can help decrease your opponent's damage even further (will cover these in Part 2).

However, Umaga is very limited in the actions he can pack. Only being able to pack Hybrid actions can make recovery pretty tough, since all the big ones (Cavalry, Puppies, Candice, Ready to Fight) are all non-hybrid. We'll dive into other ways to recover in Part 2.

Quote
As Big and Tough as Any Two Men
Backstage Card
When your opponent's printed Superstar Value is less than your printed Superstar Value (when you are Revolution The Great Khali or Kane, less than 5), when he plays Handicap Match he may only choose 1 of the 3 effects on the card.
Unique
V1

This card is pretty situational. Umaga's 3 SSV means this card won't always be used, but it doesn't cost anything to pack, so there's no sense in not.

Quote
Tribal Trouble
Backstage Card
When you are Umaga, your Samoan Drop is Chain, when you successfully play that card, put up to 3 cards from Ringside on the bottom of your Arsenal, and when you do not have a card with that title in your Ring, it is also "Reversal: non-unique maneuver or Clutch Onto Opponent".
During your turn, you may hide this card and then search your Arsenal for 1 non-Unique non-hybrid maneuver, reveal it, put it in your hand, and shuffle.
Unique     RMS logo
V5

Superb card. Makes Samoan Drop a must pack for Umaga, making it an omni-reversal, Chain, and a source of some recovery. Of course this means that you can't pack them when packing BASH cards, but I think the trade-off is worth it. And it's also a free way to search your arsenal for a maneuver.

Quote
Managed by Armando Alejandro Estrada
Pre-match Manager
When this card is in your Ring, ignore the "can only be played..." text on your Me Llamo...Armando Alejandro Estrrrrrada cards.
ACE: When you have at least 10 lower Fortitude, you may put this card in your Ringside and then if your next card played this turn is a maneuver, it can only be reversed from Arsenal.
F: 0     D: 0     Unique     Permanent
V3

And for reference:
Quote
Me Llamo … Armando Alejandro Estrrrrrada
Reversal: Special
Can only be played when you have a maneuver with the word “BASH,” “blindside,” “dynamic,” “precision,” or “shoot” in the title in your Ring area.
When played from your hand, reverse any non-unique card and end your opponent’s turn.
F: 3 D: 0

This is a good manager. It isn't very powerful, but giving you a free 3F non-unique card reversal is good. The ACE of it is decent in the right situation. Having said that, I wouldn't blame someone if they chose to pack a more powerful manager to better fit their build.

Cannot be blanked.  Your Umaga-specific cards do not take up a Pre-match or Mid-match slot in your Ring.
Your Samoan Drop is +3D.
ACE: You may put this card into your Ringside and then put up to 3 cards from your Ringside into your hand: when the next card you play is a non-RMS Superstar-specific action with a logo on this card, your opponent cannot respond to it.  When you are Umaga, this cannot be reversed.

Another solid card. Gives you free pre and mid-match slots, makes your Samoan Drops even better than they already are, and gives you an irreversible (and very good) ACE.

As a reversal, reverse any card (even if it cannot be reversed), and your opponent discards 5 cards.
F: 55     D: 10     SV: 4     Unique
V3

The rare Mid-Match trademark finisher! I love this card. It's great as a maneuver, and even better as a reversal. The maneuver part of this card can do some serious damage to your opponent. And the reversal part of it reverses MOST cards. Amazing.

Quote
The Samoan Bulldozer
Mid-match Action
Cannot be blanked.
When you have no Revolution cards in your Ring, this card is F: 0, your opponent cannot respond to it, and it is considered to be a Storyline in your Ring for card effects.
Your maneuvers are +1D, and he cannot respond to your Umaga-specific Actions.
ACE:  When your maneuver is unsuccessfully played, you may overturn 3 cards and put it in your hand instead; when you are Umaga and you have lower Fortitude, this effect cannot be reversed.
F: 20     D: 0     Unique     Permanent
V5

Another great card, if only for the ACE. Being able to keep throwing the same move until it sticks can be very handy. This effect, along with a card to be discussed in Part 2, is the basis of one of my favorite Umaga tricks.

Quote
Umaga's Nerve Pinch

F: 14     D: 8     Unique

His first arsenal specific card on it's surface isn't a great card. A 14 for 8 submission... However, combined with The Samoan Bulldozer, this because an incredibly playable card. The draw 3 is a nice bonus.

Quote
Umaga's Chest Kick

As a maneuver, this card is -15F.

F: 20     D: 10     SV: 2     Unique
V3

I really like this card. As a maneuver, a 5 for 10 multi strike that can really open up the game for you. Or, if you can afford to, you can save it for the tremendous reversal it is (When Samoan Bulldozer is in your ring).

Quote
The Samoan Scream
Action + Action / Reversal: Special
As an action, shuffle cards from your Ringside into your Arsenal up to the number of maneuvers in your Ring.
As a reversal, reverse any non-maneuver card, look at your opponent's hand and choose up to 2 cards that are actions or antics, and he discards the chosen cards.
F: 10     D: 0     Unique     Multi
V3

The Samoan Bulldozer makes this a very good action that your opponent cannot respond to. I find it's especially in a chain build, since chain moves are often lower damage and you can get more maneuvers in your ring per game. As a reversal, this is a nasty No Chance in Hell that gives you hand knowledge AND lets you strip away a few key cards from his hand.

Quote
Face-Painted Fury
Reversal: Special
Reverse any maneuver, your opponent discards 2 cards, and draw up to 2 cards.
F: 12     D: 0     Unique
V7

Pretty simple here. No explanation needed. Great reversal with great effects.

That's it for Umaga's specifics. They aren't many, but they're all pretty good!

PART 2
Non-Specifc cards that are useful for Umaga

Umaga's biggest concern is his ability to recover without playing non-hybrid actions. Here are a few cards that can help:

Quote
Iron Will
Action / Reversal: Special
Cannot be played by The Rock.
As an action, discard this card, shuffle up to 2 cards from your Ringside pile into your Arsenal that are not titled Iron Will, and draw 1 card.

I'd like to focus on Calgary for a second. This is my favorite Umaga trick:

1. Play a chain move (Quick Snap Body Slam)
2. Opponent reverses it.
3. Activate The Samoan Bulldozer (overturn 3 and put QSBS back into your hand)
4. Shuffle in 2 with Calgary
5. Unbreakable chain (recover more chain cards and continue your turn)
6. Rinse and repeat.

As long as your opponent doesn't have an ACE reversal in his hand, you can keep throwing your move and recover most of the cards you overturn. And if they keep reversing it, they have to lose a good chunk of their hand.

Now, the other thing about Umaga is his ability to reduce his opponent's damage. Here are some cards to help with that, or benefit from it:

Quote
Don't Question the Fire That Burns Inside
Pre-match Allegiance: ECW
Double all numbers in your ECW Championship Belt and you may choose both options.
ACE:  Once during each of your turns, you may discard 1 card and then your next Extreme played this turn is also a Foreign Object.
ACE:  During your turn, you may hide The House that Hardcore Built to put up to # cards from your Ringside on the bottom of your Arsenal, where # is the total number of Extreme, Foreign Object and ECW cards in your Ring.
F: 0     D: 0     Unique     Permanent     RMS logo     ECW logo

ECW Championship Belt - Throwback
Choose one: Your maneuvers are +1D, or your opponent's maneuvers are -1D.  When you are Rob Van Dam, Lashley, Revolution Tommy Dreamer, Jack Swagger or Christian, draw 1 card.
Superstar Value +1     Universally Unique     ECW logo

These two cards give you a total of -5D to your opponent's maneuvers. That's huge.

And Umaga gets better use out of these cards than a lot of others:

Quote
Over Sell Maneuver
Reversal: Special
Cannot be packed by Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Undertaker, Deadman Inc, Kane, Tazz, Two Man Power Trip, The Rattlesnake, Big Poppa Pump, Gene Snitsky, or Heidenreich.
Can only be played after a successfully played maneuver.
Blank that maneuver's text until the end of the turn and end your opponent's turn. Overturn cards equal to the maneuver's Damage. Draw up to 2 cards.
F: 0      D: 0

Clumsy Opponent
Reversal: Special
Reverse any maneuver of 4D or less and end your opponent's turn. You may draw 1 card.
F: 0      D: 1

PART 3
Specific Build Types

(Most of these ideas revolve around the ACE of The Samoan Bulldozer)

First Idea: Chain

As I've said throughout this post, chain is a pretty good way to go with Umaga. Not only because of the trick I fleshed out above with Calgary, But also because of Samoan Drop (which becomes chain with his backstage) and a 0 for 7 reversal: non-unique maneuver.

But since chain is a relatively standard deck build, I don't have to really dive in too deep. Stick with a maneuver base of QSBS, Samoan Drop, Body Lock, Atomic Driver, and maybe a few others.

Second Idea: Volley

Volley maneuver's are typically higher damage maneuvers, which can help you get closer to the 50F required for the Samoan Spike. But there's also a few neat combos with Volley.

Quote
Cold-cocked
Strike: Volley: 6
If this card is not successfully played, put up to 2 other Volley cards from your Ringside pile into your hand.
"I haven't seen JBL this mad since the last time the market crashed." - Tazz
SV: 3
F: 10      D: 12

You play Cold Cocked, opponent reverses it, you overturn 3, put cold cocked into your hand, and then pick up 2 volley maneuvers from ringside. A great way to keep your hand up if you want to sponge with Sustained Damage.

Another thing about Volley is it's interaction with your ringside pile:

Quote
Thrust Kick
Strike: Volley: 8
When this card is in your Ringside pile, if you successfully play a Volley maneuver, you may put this card into your hand.
Cheater Logo
SV: 2
F: 7      D: 8

Thrust Knee Lift
Strike + Strike: Volley: 8
Cannot be packed by Female Superstars.
When this card is in your Ringside pile, during your turn you may put this card on the bottom of your Arsenal and then randomly remove 2 cards in your opponent’s Ringside pile from the game.
Cheater logo
Multi
SV: 1
F: 9 D: 8

Overturning these cards with The Samoan Bulldozer can be quite effective.

Third Idea: Dynamic

Remember, Umaga CAN pack hybrid actions. And Dynamic has gotten much better in virtual thanks mostly to this card:

This should give Umaga a nice bid hand full of reversals.

Dynamic also means Umaga gets to use this card to the fullest extent:

F: 0 D: 0

This will help you recover key cards, and it's a pretty good reversal too.

Fourth Idea: Technical

The main thrust of this idea is based around this card:

Quote
Technically Sound & Brutal
Pre-match Event
When this card is in your Ring area, when you successfully play a maneuver with the word "technical" in the title, choose 1: draw 1 card and then put 1 card from your hand on the bottom of your Arsenal, or put 1 card from your Ringside pile on the bottom of your Arsenal.
F: 0      D: 0

The ability to recover a card when successfully playing a technical maneuver is of particular interest to me. If you have 3 of these in your ring you'll be able to recover a lot of cards once you get a few maneuvers to be successful.

Fifth Idea: BASH

I mention this only because BASH lets you start the game with 3F, which is exactly how much Armando... costs. However, if you go BASH, you cannot pack Samoan Drop with Tribal Trouble – and that idea turns me off to it.

PART 4
In Conclusion:

Umaga has a few very good cards, and an underrated ability. -3D to opponent's maneuvers (or -4/5D with ECW belt) can let you sponge for a long time, or let you reverse more with cards like Elbow to the Face or Clumsy Opponent. Imagine if Elbow to the Face had this text, “Reverse any maneuver of 12D or less.” That's basically what Umaga gets to do.

I also feel like Umaga is a straight forward build. Throw moves, and reverse everything. If I was introducing a friend to Raw Deal, Umaga would be near the top of the list of superstars I'd suggest.

Please comment anything I may have forgotten or overlooked, or if you've built an Umaga deck before!

I hope you enjoyed this, and hopefully learned a few things. Check back next week when I cover The Corre!

Superstar Strategy Session: Asuka

My goal is to spotlight and break down a different superstar every week by going in depth on their cards, referenced cards, and different types of builds for them.

I posted a poll on the TCO discord channel and this week's session is dedicated to the Empress of Tomorrow Asuka!

PART ONE
Let's take a look at her specifics:

Quote
Asuka
Starting Hand Size: 6     Superstar Value: 3
NXT Superstar Ability: When your maneuver is unsuccessful, your opponent puts 1 random card from his hand on the bottom of his Arsenal and draws 1 card.
You can pack Unique Multi maneuvers, but you cannot pack maneuvers that are Heat, Chain, or Volley, or that have 'dynamic', 'girly', 'precision,' 'shoot', or 'technical' in the title.
V9

First thing to take note of is Asuka is a Female superstar, as well as being an NXT superstar. This gives her access to many good cards that I'll cover in Part 2. As for her actual ability, it's relatively minimally disruptive to her opponent. There are some cards that can interact pretty well with it. However, the next line is the kicker:

“You can pack Unique Multi maneuvers, but you cannot pack maneuvers that are Heat, Chain, or Volley, or that have 'dynamic', 'girly', 'precision,' 'shoot', or 'technical' in the title.”

This REALLY limits any potential builds (Part 3 might be short this week). Allowing her to pack unique Multi's is nice, but at a huge cost. More on this as we go on.

Your Ankle Lock, Arm Breaker, Arm Wrench, Chicken Wing, Dragon Sleeper, Forearm Uppercut, Haymaker, Rapid-Fire Punches, Spinning Back Fist, and Whirling Backhand cards are F: 0, they are not Active, and when successfully played you may Promo: 2.
Ignore the 'non-unique' text on your Knee Lift and Takedown cards.

I'm not going to post the text of all these maneuvers, just know that they're all decent maneuvers – none of them great – but at F:0, they're all playable. My favorite thing about this card is the Knee Lift and Takedown text. Takedown becomes a No Chance In Hell in steroids.

Asuka's Furisode & Mask
Pre-match Object
Cannot be blanked.
Your opponent does not search for Osaka, Japan.
At the end of the Pre-match phase, search your Arsenal for up to 2 non-Unique non-reversal maneuvers with different titles, reveal them, put them in your hand, and shuffle.
ACE: You may skip your Draw Segment, and then search your Arsenal for 1 non-hybrid card with a title listed on Asuka's Aggression, reveal it, put it in your hand, and shuffle; when you have lower Fortitude, this effect cannot be reversed.
F: 0     D: 0     Unique     Permanent     NXT logo

There's a lot to unpack here. Firstly, lets looks at Osaka, Japan:

Quote
Osaka, Japan
Pre-match Venue
At the end of Pre-match phase, you may discard a Reversal card and then search your Arsenal for a non-unique Reversal card, reveal it to your opponent, put it into your hand, and shuffle your Arsenal.
He may then discard a Maneuver card and search his Arsenal for a non-unique Maneuver card, reveal it to you, put it into his hand, and shuffle his Arsenal.
Universally Active
Permanent
F: 0      D: 0

So basically, you get to ditch a reversal (Boobie Trap, perhaps?) and go find a better reversal. Solid.

The second effect of Furisode & Mask is very good. Allowing you to freely grab any two non-reversal maneuvers and put them into your hand. This cards fits every build. The first thing that comes to my mind is Clutch/Apply. Another idea is to grab a Pump Kick, Boot Lace, German Suplex, Atomic Lariat, or other maneuvers that are hard to reverse. Or another direction to go is Whirlwind Kick. It's a unique Multi manevuer, so Asuka can pack it, AND you can search for it as if it's non-unique.

And the third effect, allowing you to skip your draw segment in order to go get a maneuver listed on her backstage card. Obviously, if your build is based around that card then this effect is great. You'll never not have a maneuver to throw. Making this card a good combo with Old School Wrestling Match (TB). The worst part is that this card is prone to DTTAH if you're ahead in fortitude.

After all Pre-match have been resolved, you may discard 1 random card; if you do, you start the game.
When your first maneuver played on a turn is unsuccessful, your opponent puts 1 random card from his hand on the bottom of his Arsenal.

This is another solid card. Allowing you to determine if you go first or not, AND it makes your opponent have to lose another card in his hand if your move is unsuccessful. It kind of seems like these effects could have been on other cards instead of getting it's own card, but I won't complain about it. Your opponent randomly losing cards in his hand is ALWAYS a good thing.

Asuka's Cross-Arm Breaker
Mid-match Submission + Submission / Reversal: Special
As a maneuver, this card is -10F and +5D, and when successfully played, your opponent puts 1 random card from hand on the bottom of his Arsenal.
As a reversal, ignore any reversal restrictions from your opponent and reverse a card with 'clothesline,' 'fist', 'punch', or 'slap' in the title.
During your turn when this card is in your Ringside, you may discard 3 cards, put this card into your Backlash, and end your turn.
F: 25     D: 10     SV: 2     Unique     Multi     NXT logo
V9

This is a good mid-match maneuver. A 15F multi submission for 15D, and opponent will be randomly losing a card regardless of its successful or unsuccessful. As a reversal, it hits a few random cards. This is one of those rare situations where you would rather play a specific hybrid as a maneuver and NOT a reversal. I only wish that this card ignored “Completely” on your opponent's reversasls, but that's just me being fickle.

Now on to the arsenal Specifics:

Quote
Billiken
High Risk + High Risk
Can only be played after a successfully played maneuver or as a Counter.
Your opponent discards 4 random cards and then draws 2 cards.
F: 6     D: 10     SV: 1     Unique     Multi     NXT logo
V9

This is a very good maneuver. High Risk is the most difficult non-TMF maneuver type to reverse, and this one is low F, high D, and very easy to play. It also makes your opponent discard 4 random cards. That's an amazing effect – even if they then get to draw 2 cards.

Quote
Asuka's Ankle Lock
Submission / Action / Reversal: Special
When played as a Counter, this card is Multi.
As a maneuver, this card is +2D for every card with 'Asuka' in the title in your Ring.
As a reversal, when you have lower Fortitude or fewer cards in hand, reverse any Strike.
As an action, you may shuffle this card and up to 3 other cards from your Ringside into your Arsenal.
F: 10     D: 5     SV: 1     Unique     NXT logo
V9

This card is good no matter how you play it. As a maneuver, you're going to only play it as a counter. This makes it multi, and it's going to be at least +4D (probably more). As a reversal, it easily reverses any strike, which is the most popular maneuver type. And as an Action, you get to shuffle it in and recover and 3 cards. That's a very good effect, but perhaps a bit too pricey at 10F.

Quote
Asuka's Flurry of Strikes

F: 15     D: 8     SV: 1     Unique     RMS logo     NXT logo

The best part about this card is that your opponent has to randomly lose cards in his hand after he reverses either maneuver, this really helps this card become successful.

This card is also very good. Only reversible by hybrid cards is huge. There really aren't many hybrid TMF reversals that aren't superstar-specific. And as a reversal, it his 2 very popular maneuver types.

Another good card. Allows you to go find a key card in your arsenal, and allows you to easily recylce it. And your opponent cannot reverse it with Volley This or Ax Kick when played as a counter.

PART TWO
Non-Specific cards that could be helpful for Asuka.

As I said above, Asuka is a Female NXT superstar, which gives her access to a bunch of good cards. Such as:

Quote
The Era of the Superstar
Backstage Card
Can only be packed by a Female Superstar. Cannot be packed by a GM. When packing this card, you are not a Diva and cannot pack cards as if you were a Diva.
You may ignore card effects from your opponent’s non-Superstar-specific cards with 'female' or 'diva' in the text that would move cards from your hand, reveal your hand, or allow him to search your Arsenal.
When played as a Counter, your maneuvers without ‘reversed’ in the text are -2F.

When you are an NXT Superstar, double those numbers.

As a reversal, reverse any Strike, Grapple, or Submission and draw up to 1 card.
F: 8     D: 0     Unique

All of these cards are excellent, and most of them are must packs for Asuka. Unfortunately if you're playing Osaka you won't get to play Full Sail. Alternatively you could play the NXT title belt, From NXT to WWE, and Underrated Superstar to increase your hand by 4.

Moving on from NXT cards, I think this card could be pretty good for Asuka.

Quote
Handcuffed
Strike: Foreign Object: Heel
Your opponent cannot play the card titled Over Sell Maneuver immediately after you play this card.
When reversed from your opponent's hand, he discards 2 cards.
When successfully played, draw up to 3 cards.
When this card is in your Ring area, your opponent discards 1 card when he plays a Face card.
F: 0      D: 0

Here's your opponent's choices when you play this card. Either it's successful and you draw 3 cards, or he reverses it and randomly put 2 cards in his hand on the bottom and draws a card AND THEN he discards 2. That's a net loss of 3 cards for him.

Now, looking at the section of her ability that lets her pack unique Multi maneuvers, how about these two:

Quote
Spraypainted by the nWo
Submission + Action: Run-in
Can be packed by Hollywood Hulk Hogan.
Can only be played when there is an nWo card in your Ring or Backstage Area, and after a successfully played maneuver. When Ref Takes a Bump is in any Ring, this card is -4F and +4D.
Your opponent discards 2 cards.
When this card is in your Ring, he cannot play nWo cards.
F: 8     D: 4     Unique     Multi     nWo logo

nWo Beatdown
Strike + Action: Run-in
Can only be played if there is an nWo card in your Ring or Backstage Area.
Can only be played after a successfully played card, unless Ref Takes a Bump is in any Ring.
Can only be reversed by 2 reversal cards.
F: 12     D: 8     SV: 2     Unique     Multi     nWo logo

Of course this means that you'll have to use nWo T-Shirt as your allegiance. But an nWo build brings a lot of good cards with it. And how about this card listed in those two cards above:

Quote
Ref Takes A Bump
Action
When this card is in your hand and your opponent plays a non-unique printed D: 0 reversal to reverse your maneuver, you may put this card from your hand into your Ring and put the reversed maneuver in your Ring instead of your Ringside.
F: 0     D: 0     Unique     Permanent

Asuka loves this card because not only doesn she get her fortitude, but her manevuer was unsuccessful, so opponent still is affected by her ability. Win/Win.

PART THREE
Specific Build Types

As I said above, Asuka is very limited in what kind of build she can be. Of course, the most obvious build is to use the manevuers listed in Asuka's aggression. But I'm going to focus on a few that you may not think about at first glance.

First Idea: Drawing a Blank/There Is No Escape combo

Quote
There Is No Escape
Pre-match Feud
All players' maneuvers cannot be reversed by non-Superstar-specific hybrid Reversal cards. Your maneuvers also cannot be reversed from your opponent's Backlash deck.
Your maneuvers are +2 Stun Value.
You cannot play non-unique maneuvers not titled Arm Bar, Arm Bar Takedown, Arm Drag, Atomic Drop, Belly to Back Suplex, Belly to Belly Suplex, Body Slam, Chop, Clothesline, Collar & Elbow Lockup, Drop Kick, Haymaker, Head Butt, Hip Toss, Press Slam, Punch, Roundhouse Punch, Russian Leg Sweep, Snap Mare, Vertical Suplex, Wrist Lock, Backhand Slap, Drop Toe Hold, Elbow Drop, Foot Stomp, or Hammerlock.
Permanent
F: 0      D: 0

Drawing a Blank
Pre-match Event
Cannot be packed by Cryme Tyme, JBL, MVP, or Stevie Richards.  Cannot be blanked, and no other card can gain this text.
Your cards with 'psychology' in the title are blank.
During your turn, when you have equal or lower Fortitude and your first card played from hand is a non-BASH non-multi non-Revolution maneuver with blank text, it cannot be reversed by non-Unique reversals from hand or Ringside.
Before your Draw Segment when your Ability is blank, choose one: draw 1 card if you have less than 10 cards in hand, or put up to 1 card from your Ringside on the bottom of your Arsenal.
F: 0     D: 0     Unique     Permanent

The reason I bring this up is that it adds reversal restrictions to your maneuvers. So not only are your maneuvers harder to reverse, but if they ARE reversed, opponent has to ditch cards in his hand for your ability. And when you combine this with Era of the Superstar, you can start the game with 12 0F blank maneuvers (Punch, Hip Toss, Roundhouse Punch, and Russian Leg Sweep). And it's also good to note that you can play unique maneuvers with No Escape, so all of her unique multi maneuvers are also protected.

I like to combine Drawing a Blank with this card:

Quote
I Know Who Pays My Salary!
Pre-match Allegiance: WWE
When packing this card, you cannot pack nWo, ECW, or WCW cards.
When your opponent is an nWo, WCW or ECW Superstar, your Starting Hand Size and Superstar Value are +2.
ACE: When he is not Vince McMahon, once during each of your turns you may discard 2 cards and then you are considered to have lower Fortitiude when you play your next non-Antic card this turn.
F: 0     D: 0     Unique     Permanent     RMS logo

This guarantees that you will have less fortitude when you play your blank maneuver.

Second Idea: Punch

Notice that two of the maneuvers listed on Asuka's Aggression interact with this card:

Quote
Brass "Nuks" Shot
Strike: Foreign Object / Reversal: High Risk / Heel
When played by William Regal, this card is -3F.
As a reversal, reverse any High Risk maneuver and end your opponent's turn.
When this card is in your Ring area, your cards with the word "punch" in the title, and your cards titled Haymaker and European Uppercut, cannot be reversed from your opponent's Arsenal and are +2D.
Active
F: 3      D: 5

This isn't a totally solid plan, more for a fun build than a competitive one. But if you can land Brass Nuks, then you have instant access to 6 punch or Haymaker cards. You could use Chicago street fight to keep throwing the nuks until it sticks.

Third Idea: Mono-Submission/Sleeper

Asuka's Aggression has a lot of submissions you can go search for. And submissions are the middle child of maneuver types, often forgotten. So, one idea I had that's a little silly is a Sleeper deck:

Quote
The Sleeper Match of the Year!
Mid-match Action
Cannot be reversed when played by Rowdy Roddy Piper or when played after a card with 'sleeper' in the title.
Whenever you successfully play a maneuver with 'sleeper' in the title, your opponent discards 1 card and you draw up to 1 card.
When you have 7 or more cards with 'sleeper' in the title in your Ring, you have at least 10 greater Fortitude, and you have more cards in hand, you win the game via Pinfall Victory.
F: 9     D: 0     Unique

Asuka can search for Dragon Sleeper, and play it at F:0. And she CAN pack Blindside maneuvers, such as Blindside Sleeper. But even if you don't go with a pure sleeper theme, mono-submission with Maintain Hold can still be a good combination with her.

PART FOUR
In conclusion:

Asuka doesn't jump out at me as a top tier superstar, mainly because her ability is just so limiting. She may have an easier time getting going with all of the F:0's she can throw with Asuka's Aggression, but I feel like she may have a hard time finishing games. I think the best build for her is to play all of the cheese maneuvers (German Suplex, Boot Lace, Atomic Lariat, etc.)

Having said that, ALL of her cards are good. And she gets NXT support. Those are nothing to scoff at.

Please comment anything I may have forgotten or overlooked, or if you've built an Asuka deck before!

I hope you enjoyed this, and hopefully learned a few things. Check back next week when I cover UMAGA!

This deck is a beast. Managed by A.W. is borderline broken.

I made the deck Chain because of A.W.'s ability to stop reversals. The basic idea is to play a chain move, opponent has to discard 2 to play a reversal to it, if they do you can make them have to play another reversal (if they have one) - and they dont gert their cards back. Old School Psych also makes them discard a card when they play a backlash card.

Also remember that A.W. can prevent opponent from playing Restricted Use to your Mean Gene protected cards. My favorite way to start the game us TUtH into Ap Chaki Kick.

Finish them off with the 3 trademark finishers.

I imagine Managed by A.W. will get a slight revision when they get around to it. But in the mean time, have at it.

Ohhhhhh good catch! Yes, that bumps Macho King up significantly.

Superstar Strategy Session: Macho Man Randy Savage

My goal is to spotlight and break down a different superstar every week by going in depth on their cards, referenced cards, and different types of builds for them.

I posted a poll on the TCO discord channel and this week's session is dedicated to the Cream of the crop, Macho Man Randy Savage!

PART ONE
Let's take a look at his specifics:

Quote
"Macho Man" Randy Savage
Starting Hand Size: 5     Superstar Value: 5
Legend Superstar Ability:  Your cards with "elbow" in the title are +4D.
When the first card you play on your turn is From the Top Rope, it cannot be reversed.
V1

There isn't really much about his superstar card that jumps out at me. His hand size and ability are nothing to rave about, however, he is a Legend so he has access to a bunch of legend specific cards we can cover in Part 2. Moving on.

Quote
The Macho Cowboy Hat
Backstage Card
Your Starting Hand Size is +3.
During your turn, you may hide this card and then put 1 card from your Ringside into your hand.
Unique
V1

This certainly helps build his hand size up. And it's a free way to get a card from your ringside into your hand. I wish his Starting Hand Size was just an 8 so he wouldn't get hit as hard by Armageddon is Upon Us, but that's a minor complaint.

Quote
Madness Lives Forever
Backstage Card
Cannot be packed when packing Corners.
Replace 'from your hand' with 'from your hand or Ringside' on your Superstar-specific actions.
During your turn, you can play your Superstar-specific cards from Ringside; when you do, remove 2 random cards in your Ringside from the game.
Unique     RMS logo
V7

Being able to play cards from your ringside is very helpful. It comes at a cost of removing 2 at random,  but RFG cards are typically anything but RFG. There are plenty of cards that will let you get them back. As we go through the rest of his specifics, we'll see the benefits of the first effect of this card.

Quote
Be a Man!
Backstage Card
Once during each of your opponent's turns, when he plays a card, you may overturn 1 card and his card is considered to be both Face and Heel until the end of the turn.
When he wins via card effect, you may hide this card and then ignore the Permanent trait on that card and remove it from the game instead, then shuffle up to 7 cards from your Ringside into your Arsenal and end the current turn.
When he is Hollywood Hulk Hogan or The Immortal One, his Ability is blank.
Unique     RMS logo
V3

This card is certainly better than the song it's named after. Let's focus on the second two effects first. Being able to prevent a win condition is more useful that it seems. Cards like Backslide, Inside Cradle, and Victory Roll are still heavily played. And the Hogan blanking is a fun bit of flavor, but obviously only helps against two superstars.

Now, the first effect of the card being able to turn your opponent's cards into Face or Heel cards is meant to interact with his two superstar-specific managers, which we'll cover now...

Quote
Managed by Miss Elizabeth
Pre-match Manager: Face
When your opponent successfully plays a Heel card, he discards 1 card.
ACE: When his Fortitude Rating is 20 or more greater than yours, before his Draw Segment, you may put this card into your Ringside and his turn ends.
F: 0     D: 0     Unique
V1

Honestly, this card doesn't really make me want to play it. It's interaction with Be a Man can be helpful, but it hinges on your opponent's SUCCESSFULLY played heel card. And when it comes to the ACE, if you're down by 20F+, ending a turn probably doesn't really help that much. Just my two cents.

Quote
Managed by Sherri Martel
Pre-match Manager: Heel
When your opponent successfully plays a Face card, draw up to 1 card.
ACE: During your turn when this card is in your Ring, you may put this card into your Ringside and then shuffle any number of reversals with "manager" in the title from your Ring and/or Ringside into your Arsenal.
During your turn when this card is in your Ringside, you may remove this card from the game to shuffle 2 reversals with "manager" in the title from your Ring and/or Ringside into your Arsenal.
F: 0     D: 0     Unique
V1

This card, on the other hand, is great. I feel like there are more played face cards than heel cards anyway, so Macho Man could draw a lot from them. Also, the ability to recycle your “manager” cards is incredible, AND he gets to do it twice! This card alone makes me want to build Macho Man heel nine times out of ten.

Quote
Macho Madness
Pre-match Event
When packing this card, your cards with 'blindside' in the title are not Cheater or Fan Favorite.
You may play this card from Ringside.
When you are about to remove more than 1 card from the game to play a maneuver or reversal from Ringside with 'blindside' in the title, the number of cards removed is reduced to 1.
Your Blindsided Rage cards cannot be blanked.
F: 0     D: 0     Unique     Permanent     RMS logo
V1

This card is pretty specific to a blindside build. If you aren't going a blindside route, then you can just skip this card. But if you ARE going blindside, this card is quite good. It all but eliminates the biggest drawback from playing blindside cards, which is removing cards from the game. I'll cover specific possible build types for Macho in Part 3.

Quote
A Method To The Madness
Mid-match Action
During your turn when this card is in your Backlash, you may put it into your Ring.
Your first non-hybrid maneuver played each turn that is 6D or less can only be reversed from Arsenal or by D: 0 reversals from hand.  When you discard cards to play a card with 'blindside' in the title from Ringside, discard 1 less card.
F: 0     D: 0     Unique     Permanent
V1

Now THIS is my favorite Macho Man card. It gives your lower damage maneuvers a pretty good reversal restriction. I'll go more in depth on this card in Part 3. I have a few nutty ideas for it.

Quote

Put up to 5 cards from your hand on the bottom of your Arsenal, put up to the same number of cards from your Ringside on the bottom of your Arsenal, and then put up to the same number of cards removed from the game on the bottom of your Arsenal.

A good solid card. Gives you a bit of recovery from both ringside and RFG. I only with it didn't hurt your hand so much. But being able to play it from ringside is a good bonus, and a good way to spam it until it hits.

Now on to his arsenal specifics

Quote
Savage Series of Jabs
Strike + Strike / Reversal: Special
When you are Macho Man Randy Savage, this card is -10F.
When played as a Counter, this card is -5F and cannot be reversed by non-Superstar-specific D: 2+ cards.
As a reversal, reverse any Set-up card, or when you are Macho Man Randy Savage, reverse any action or antic.
F: 15     D: 6     SV: 2     Unique     Multi
V7

This is another good card. When played as a counter it gets reduced to 0F, is multi, and has a decent reversal restriction (and is also effected by his mid-match reversal restriction). AND Macho has the ability to play it from ringside, so it's almost inevitable that this card will land sooner rather than later. And it becomes a souped up No Chance In Hell as a reversal.

Quote
Savage Double Axe Handle
High Risk / Action
When you are Macho Man Randy Savage, this card is Multi.
As a maneuver, can only be played after a successfully played maneuver, and when played after a maneuver with 'blindside' in the title, can only be reversed by Unique reversals.
As an action, this card is -10F, put this card on top of your Arsenal and shuffle up to 3 of your cards removed from the game into your Arsenal.
When successfully played, put up to 1 Superstar-specific Action from your Ringside into your hand.
F: 15     D: 10     SV: 1     Unique     WWF Classic logo
V4

As a maneuver, this card is... fine. Obviously it gets a boost in blindside builds, but other than that it's just a high fortitude high risk. But, as an action, I can definitely see the merits of this card. It let's you recycle your RFG cards 3 at a time. Overall, packing this card depends on your specific build, and I would not be surprised if you didn't pack it.

Savage Piledriver
Trademark Finisher
Can only be packed by Macho Man Randy Savage.
Your opponent discards 3 cards.
When successfully played from hand and you have a Heel card in your Ring, he overturns # cards, where # is the number of maneuvers in your Ring.
When this card is in your Ringside, your maneuvers are +1 Stun Value.
F: 20     D: 15     SV: 3     Unique
V7

I really like this card. And as stated above, I'm typically going to be building Macho Man as a heel superstar, so the added overturn effect will trigger, along with my opponent having to discard 3 cards. AND it can be played from ringside, AND when it's in ringside you get added stun value. Great card for all builds.

Quote
Savage Flying Elbow Drop

Can only be played after a successfully played 8D or greater maneuver, or From the Top Rope.
When played after a successfully played maneuver, can only be reversed from Arsenal.
F: 35     D: 20     SV: 3     Unique     Multi
V1

So, look, I really wish this card was better. To me, this is a sub-par TMF. It's missing something. It costs too much F for only 20D. Combine that with the play requirement being pretty pricey at 8D or greater or From the Top Rope (which you can't even search for this card with). I feel like I'd rather play The Finisher, or another non-specific TMF that's a lot easier to play. I wish this card had another effect on it to make me want to pack it. Maybe +5D, or letting me find it when I play FtTR, or doing something when it's in my ringside, just something extra. As it stand now, it's a borderline pack for me.

OOOOH YEAH!

During your turn when you have not played any cards, you may put this card from your hand into your Ring.

Once again, this card is built for blindside decks. Being able to put this card into your ring from hand (or ringside) without having to actually play it is very nice. But, alas, in a non-blindside build, this card has no value.

Another card that you can keep playing over and over. Getting +5D to your maneuvers is pretty good, however its a  little counterproductive with A Method to the Madness. At least you don't have to discard when your opponent inevitably plays Don't Try This At Home to it. It's a decent enough card.

Macho Man's Savagery

Your opponent discards 2 random cards.
When your card or Activated Card Effect is reversed, you may put this card from your hand into your Ring; when the card was Managed by Sherri Martel, you may put that card into your Ring.

Another reason to play Macho Man as a heel. You get a free 2F if your opponent reverses your card or ACE. You're able to put it into your ring from hand (or ringside). And Legendary Ruthlessness it a pretty good reversal. Good card.

This is Macho's best arsenal card. Not only is it cheaper than a Manager Interferes, but it also hits ANY card and not just maneuvers. Also, it interacts with Managed by Sherri Martel, so you can possibly recycle this card twice from ring or ringside. Great card.

PART TWO
Non-Specific cards that could be helpful for Macho Man

Macho Man is a legend superstar, so here's a list of some decent legend specific cards:

Legendary Defense

Legendary Defense makes a lot of sense with Savage since he has two superstar-specific managers he can play with it. And all of the arsenal cards are very good and worth playing. A lot of them are better than his actual specifics.

Other than the legend cards, Randy doesn't have any other cards that work specifically well with him. I'll cover more cards right now in Part 3.

PART THREE
Specific Build Types

Macho Man, by his cards alone, leans heavily toward a blindside build. I'm personally not a big fan of blindside. Especially when the members of the Shield do blindside so much better than Macho Man. So, I'm not going to go in depth on a blindside build, since that's pretty self explanatory. Let's go a little deeper into a few build that are off the beaten path. **SPOILER ALERT** They all revolve around A Method to the Madness.

First idea: Ring Psychology Arm or Leg.

Quote
Ring Psychology: Arm
Pre-match Event
If you have 4 or more Grapple or Submission maneuvers in your Ring area with the words "arm," "shoulder," or "wrist" in the title, your Grapple and Submission maneuvers are +4D and your opponent's non-High-Risk maneuvers do a maximum of 4D.
Active
Permanent
F: 0      D: 0

Ring Psychology: Leg
Pre-match Event
If you have 3 or more Grapple or Submission maneuvers in your Ring area with the words "knee," "leg," or "toe" in the title, your opponent cannot reverse any maneuver with the words "knee," "leg," or "toe" in the title from his hand or Backlash deck.
If you have 6 or more Grapple or Submission maneuvers in your Ring area with the words "knee," "leg," or "toe" in the title, your opponent also cannot reverse any maneuver with the words "knee," "leg," or "toe" in the title from his Arsenal.
Active
Permanent
F: 0      D: 0

Go back up to part 1 and reread A Method to the Madness. Now, go look up the maneuvers effected by these two psychology cards. It seems to me that you could shut down your opponent pretty effectively by combining one of these Psychology cards with A Method to the Madness. Also remember that Blindside Drop Toe Hold gets a few bonuses from Randy's specifics. My idea would be to push through a few Knee/Leg/Toe maneuvers, then finish opponent off with the higher damage maneuvers. This could lead to a bad day for your opponent trying to get around all of these reversal restrictions.

Second Idea: Technical.

Quote
Technical Drop Kick
Strike / Action: Set-up
As a maneuver, you may search your Arsenal for 1 card with the word "technical" in the title, reveal it to your opponent, put it into your hand, and shuffle your Arsenal.
As an action, this card is -4D, put this card on the bottom of your Arsenal and then put 1 card with the word "technical" in the title from your Ringside pile into your hand.
SV: 1
F: 0      D: 4

Technical Monkey Flip
Grapple / Action: Set-up
As a maneuver, you may search your Arsenal for 1 card with the word “technical” in the title, reveal it to your opponent, put it into your hand, and shuffle your Arsenal.
As an action, this card is -6D, put this card on the bottom of your Arsenal and if your next card played this turn is a maneuver with the word “technical” in the title, it is a Multi maneuver and +1 Stun Value.
F: 0 D: 6

These two maneuvers in particular mesh with Method to the Madness quite well. Combine these with the technical high risks and you could have a decent build. And remember, your From The Top Ropes cannot be reversed when played as a counter.

Third Idea: Unorthodox Style of Wrestling

Quote
Unorthodox Style of Wrestling
Pre-match Event
When this card is in your Ring area, whenever you play a High Risk maneuver after a Submission maneuver, it cannot be reversed from your opponent's hand.
F: 0      D: 0

This is probably the least effective build I'm going to list, but it could at least be a fun build. In fact, you could probably combine this card with Ring Psychology Arm. Method to the Madness can help get a low damage submission to hit, and then hit them with a reversal restricted high risk after that.

Fourth Idea: There Is No Escape.

Quote
There Is No Escape
Pre-match Feud
All players' maneuvers cannot be reversed by non-Superstar-specific hybrid Reversal cards. Your maneuvers also cannot be reversed from your opponent's Backlash deck.
Your maneuvers are +2 Stun Value.
You cannot play non-unique maneuvers not titled Arm Bar, Arm Bar Takedown, Arm Drag, Atomic Drop, Belly to Back Suplex, Belly to Belly Suplex, Body Slam, Chop, Clothesline, Collar & Elbow Lockup, Drop Kick, Haymaker, Head Butt, Hip Toss, Press Slam, Punch, Roundhouse Punch, Russian Leg Sweep, Snap Mare, Vertical Suplex, Wrist Lock, Backhand Slap, Drop Toe Hold, Elbow Drop, Foot Stomp, or Hammerlock.
Permanent
F: 0      D: 0

A lot of these maneuvers are 6D or less, so they get the reversal restriction from A Method to the Madness on top of the reversal restrictions from There Is No Escape. Also, with your maneuvers receiving +2 Stun Value (or +3 if Savage Piledriver is in your ringside), you'll be sure to have plenty of cards in your hand. You could also pair this Drawing a Blank to further restrict reversals. AND as an added bonus, Collar and Elbow Lockup and Elbow Drop are all +4D from your Superstar Ability.

Fifth Idea: Back to Basics

Quote
Back to Basics
Pre-match Feud
You can only play Pre-match cards with the words "old school" in the title.
Your opponent cannot play the card titled Hell in a Cell Match.
Search your Arsenal for 1 of each of the cards titled Arm Bar, Arm Bar Takedown, Arm Drag, Atomic Drop, Belly to Back Suplex, Belly to Belly Suplex, Body Slam, Chop, Clothesline, Collar & Elbow Lockup, Drop Kick, Haymaker, Head Butt, Hip Toss, Press Slam, Punch, Roundhouse Punch, Russian Leg Sweep, Snap Mare, Vertical Suplex, Wrist Lock, Backhand Slap, Drop Toe Hold, Elbow Drop, Foot Stomp, and Hammerlock, reveal them to your opponent, and put them under this card. You may play these cards as if they were in your hand. He searches your Arsenal and Backlash deck. If he finds any non-Superstar-specific Maneuver cards, you lose the game via Pinfall Victory. Shuffle your Arsenal.
Permanent
 (Restricted Modification Symbol)
F: 0      D: 0

This is perhaps the most “out there” build I could think of for Macho Man. Of course, he would lose out on playing his superstar-specific managers, but I think this could still be quite effective. A Method to the Madness covers most of the B2B maneuvers, and they're all readily available to you at the start of the game.

Also, Back to Basics has gotten a tremendous boost in virtual. Here are a few examples:

Quote
Old School Cage Match
Pre-match Stipulation
When a card that is not printed: Chain, Heat, Stipulation, Superstar-specific, or Unique moves cards from any Ringside, the number of cards moved is reduced by 1.
When Back to Basics is in your Ring, your Pre-match Capacity is +3, and your opponent cannot play I'm Gonna Break You.

When Back to Basics is in your Ring, your Pre-match Capacity is +3, and your opponent cannot play I'm Gonna Break You.
F: 0     D: 0     Unique     Permanent     RMS logo

World Wrestling Federation Heavyweight Title Belt – Throwback
Cannot be packed when you can pack Tag Team Title Belts.  This card is considered to have 'old school' in the title.  When you have Back to Basics in your Ring, your Starting Hand Size is +2 and when your Fortitude Rating is 0, and you play a maneuver from under that card 'as if from hand', your opponent cannot play non-Unique reversals to it.
Superstar Value +3     Universally Unique

A Foundation of Old School Wrestling
Pre-match Event
Can be played during any Pre-match Phase.
When Back to Basics is in your Ring, your Pre-match and Mid-match Capacity is +1, and your opponent's cards cannot prevent you from playing cards with 'old school' in the title.
ACE: When playing a maneuver from under Back to Basics 'as if from hand' and you do not have a Face card in your Ring, his non-F: 0 reversals to it are +#F, where # is double the number of Old School Beating cards in your Ring; once during each of your turns, you may also remove 1 Old School Beating in your Ring from the game and then # is doubled and your maneuver is -#F.
F: 0     D: 0     Unique     Permanent     RMS logo

Old School Raw
Pre-match Event / Mid-match Reversal: Special
This card is packed as either a Pre-match or a Mid-match.  Cannot be packed by The Home Team or Rey Mysterio.  Can only be played when Back To Basics is in your Ring.
As an event, this card is -9F,  at the end of the Pre-match phase, put any number of non-unique cards with "old school" in the title (that do not have "psychology" in the title) from your Backlash into your Ring.
As a reversal, reverse any non-Superstar-specific Throwback; your opponent may overturn 4 cards, if he does not, remove the reversed card from the game.
When this card is in your Ring, your Activated Card Effects on your non-unique cards with "old school" in the title cannot be reversed, and double all numbers on your Old School Beating.
F: 9     D: 0     Unique     Permanent     RMS logo

Now, obviously to get the bonus from A Method to the Madness, you will have to go with a face build because the +6D from 3 Old School Beatings would render Method useless. However, if you're going with  face build, you get to play 3 Old School Psychology's. This means that when they play Restricted Use In This Area to your reversal restricted maneuver, they have to discard 3 cards. That's pretty damn powerful.

Like I said, it may be a gimmick, but if a gimmick gets you over, then accept the gimmick.

PART FOUR
Final Thoughts

I don't think I ever realized how much I disliked a lot of Macho's specifics. Some of them are borderline not worth playing, including his Elbow Drop TMF. But he gets legend support, and at least 2 or 3 really good specifics (Method, Jabs, Manager).

Is Macho Man a top tier superstar, I don't think so. I wish he had something else. Something to make him a tiny bit better. Maybe if he was a WWF Classic superstar so he could get full use the Classic set of maneuvers? Maybe if he had a backstage area card that made him a WCW superstar like Hogan has? Or if he had nWo support? I just think he's lacking something.

I think with the builds I listed in Part 3 he could at least be interesting, and possibly pretty good.

Please comment anything I may have forgotten or overlooked, or if you've built a Macho Man Randy Savage deck before!

I hope you enjoyed this, and hopefully learned a few things. Check back next week when I cover Asuka!

You play spit at opponent.

You discard 1 card, opponent discards 4.

You then play You're Welcome. Repeat the text of spit, but add 2 to each number.

You discard 3, opponent discards 6.

So the net would be you discard 4 and opponent discards 10.

Superstar Strategy Session: Damian Sandow

My goal is to spotlight and break down a different superstar every week by going in depth on their cards, referenced cards, and different types of builds for them.

I posted a poll on the TCO discord channel and this week's session is dedicated to The Intellectual Savior of the Masses, Damian Sandow!

PART ONE
Let's take a look at his specifics:
Quote
Damien Sandow
Starting Handsize: 6     Superstar Value: 3
Superstar Ability: During any player's turn, when your opponent moves cards from his Ringside to his hand or draws cards (except for his Draw Segment or Ability), he overturns 1 card, and when he moves cards from his Ringside to his Arsenal (except for his Ability), he discards 1 card.
V7

I love Sandow's ability. Its essentially The Un-Americans, but it hits during any turn. Not only does this hurt your opponent's ability to be a draw heavy or recovery heavy deck, but it also hurts them for abusing Thrust Knee Lift, Thrust Kick, I Can't Be Reading This Right, Back Body Drop, Dubuque Iowa, Calgary, ECW One Night Stand, and Many many more good cards. AND there are also ways for you to manipulate your opponent into being effected by it. I'll focus more on those in Part Two.

Quote
The Many Faces of Sandow
Backstage Card
During each of your turns, before your Draw Segment, you may overturn 2 cards and replace your Ability with one of the following until the start of your next turn:
• Your cards with 'blindside' or 'elbow' in the title are -2F and +3D.
• When your card is unsuccessfully played, you may discard 1 card and search your Arsenal for a card with the same title, reveal it, put it in your hand and shuffle.
• When you have lower Fortitude, your cards are -1F for each word in their title.
Unique     RMS logo
V8

As if his normal ability wasn't good enough, now he can easily switch between these ones bu only overturning two cards! Let's look at the individual benefits of these new abilities.

First: Your cards with 'blindside' or 'elbow' in the title are -2F and +3D.

“Your cards with Blindside or Elbow...” CARDS. Not just maneuvers, but cards. Elbow to the Face, Blindsided Ego, Blindsided Control, and Blindsided by the Dangerous Divas are a few non-maneuvers effected by this. Along with all the other blindside maneuvers.

Second: When your card is unsuccessfully played, you may discard 1 card and search your Arsenal for a card with the same title, reveal it, put it in your hand and shuffle.

So I get to be Miz's stunt double? AWESOMEEEEEEE.... I could see this ability helping out a Chain build, especially if paired with Unbreakable Chain. OR if your hard to reverse maneuver is reversed, you can just search for another one to play next turn. Very versatile.

Lastly: When you have lower Fortitude, your cards are -1F for each word in their title.

This is my favorite of the three. And again, it reduces the F of all your CARDS. And as we'll see, his specifics are awfully wordy. But this card can also give you an 8F Manager Interferes, 0F Get The F Out, 0F Boot Lace, 2F German Suplex, 4F The Maneuver of Doom, and essentially every non-RMS card in the game is discounted.

On to the Backlash specifics:

Quote

When your opponent successfully plays a card that allows him to choose one or more different effects, you may choose and apply one of the effects as well.

V7

Now THIS is the card that you'll like to abuse. Not only does it give you free pre-match slots, but you get so many more options when playing cards. I'll list a few of my favorites in Part Two, but for now, just keep this in the back of your head.

This card if definitely a risky play, and I would understand anyone not wanting to play it. But the case for this card is also good. Opponent discards 3 AT RANDOM, and I draw 3. That's amazing. And, yeah, having to eat a card hurts, but lets think of a few ways to soften that blow. A few cards that come to mind are:

Pre-match Feud
At the end of the Pre-match phase, your opponent looks at your hand and chooses 1 card. Shuffle the chosen card and any other number of cards into your Arsenal and then draw the same number of cards shuffled in.

and the combination of

Pre-match Venue
Your Starting Hand Size is +3, and your opponent's Starting Hand Size is +2.
When you successfully play a card with blank text, draw up to 1 card.
When you are the Ultimate Warrior and Back to Basics is not in your Ring, you may not play Corners or Run-ins, this card does not increase your opponent's Starting Hand Size, and once during each of your turns you may search your Arsenal for a Superstar-specific maneuver, reveal it, put it in your hand, and shuffle your Arsenal.

Overrated Superstar
Mid-match Action
When this card is in your Backlash before the Draw Segment of the first turn of the game, and your opponent has more than 12 cards in his hand (when his printed Hand Size 10+, more than 15 cards instead), you may put this card into your Ring and he discards 3 random cards.
F: 0     D: 1     Unique

Using these cards, or any cards that effect your opponent's starting hand, can greatly increase your chances of not even being hit with anything worst caring about. And if you hit Overrated Superstar, then they'll be discarding 6 cards at random before you even get a turn. Not too shabby.

When this card is in your Ring, all cards with 'fans' in the title are blank. and the number of cards moved from your Ringside by non-Damien Sandow-specific cards to your Arsenal or under cards is reduced to 0.
ACE: Once during each of your turns you may remove 1 card in your hand from the game and then shuffle # cards from your Ringside into your Arsenal where # is equal to half the number of words in the title of the removed card rounded up.
During your turn, when this card is in your Ringside, you may discard 3 cards to put it into your Ring.
F: 0     D: 0     Unique

This is another very good card. It allows you to recover a lot of cards with only a simple cost. There is one card in particular that every Sandow deck must run 3 of:

Quote
Give me an S … Give me a P … Give me an I … Give me an R … Give me an I … Give me a T…
Action
Put 1 non-unique card that is a Strike, Grapple, Submission, High Risk, Action, or Reversal card from your Ringside pile into your hand and put up to 1 non-unique card of each of the other types from your Ringside pile on the bottom of your Arsenal.
F: 5 D: 0

This card has 24 words in it's title. Meaning you get to shuffle in 12 cards just by removing it from the game!

The only downside of this specific pre-match card is that it isn't permanent. But it can put itself back in the ring, OR you could try to play Witte Retort to make it permanent.

When this card is in your Ring area, once during each of your turns, you may discard 1 Face or Heel card and search your Arsenal for 1 Face or Heel card, reveal it to your opponent, put it into your hand, and shuffle your Arsenal.
F: 12      D: 0

So these two cards let me search for, and play heavily discounted face or heel non-reversal cards? 0F Spit at Opponent, 0F Face the Music, 0F Apply Illegal Leverage, 0F Overhand Chair Shot, 0F Classic Knee To The Groin, 4F Chair Shot, and the list goes on.

When Cody's Protective Face Mask is revealed, double the numbers in this card; when Liberated is revealed, choose all three options instead.
F: 10     D: 0     Unique     Multi

Solid card if it's successfully played. And since you're Damian Sandow, you get to pick 2 of the choices listed. Another bonus is that this card has 5 words in it's title, so you could lay it at -5F if you choose the alternate ability.

Now for the Arsenal specifics:

Good multi maneuver with a few reversal restrictions. And also playable at -6F due to the length of the title. Allows you to draw 2 AND opponent discards 2. Or, if you're in a pinch, you can remove it from the game and shuffle in 3 cards using the ACE of your pre-match.

This is a card that could get pretty abusive. You can remove it from the game to activate your pre-match, shuffle in 3 cards, and then easily put it into your ringside to retrieve it later. And as a reversal, it hits the most popular maneuver type.

What a convenient fortitude rating for this card.... 6 words in the title, and 6F. Wait a minute! That means you can make it 0F by switching your ability! Sarcasm aside, this is a really good card that gives your next action some protection. And as we'll cover with his next card, actions are Sandow's friend...

Wut? Um... This card is amazing. Just think about it! You play this after a Spit at Opponent, and the net result is you discard 4 and opponent DISCARDS 10! Or how about Who Booked This Match? Another solid card. I count 19 words in it's title, meaning you can remove it from the game and shuffle in 10 cards from ringside to arsenal.

As for the actual card effects, I'd pretty much always play it as a reversal. And it's also playable at 0F is his ability is switched.

That's all of his Superstar Specifics, so lets move on to...

PART TWO
Non-Specific cards to consider when building Damian Sandow:

The first card I'll focus on will be my favorite card in all of Virtual Raw Deal

Quote
Evening Up the Odds
Pre-match Event
Cannot be packed by Ric Flair or by a Stable.
At the start of each player's turn before their Draw Segment, when they have more than 7 cards in their hand, they shuffle 1 random card from hand into their Arsenal; when they have more than 14 cards in their hand, they shuffle 1 random additional card; and when they have less than 7 cards in their hand, they may draw 1 card.
Before any players' Draw Segment, when both players have 7 cards in hand, put this card from your Ring into your Ringside.
F: 0     D: 0     Unique

You may look at this card and think it's counter productive because Sandow can easily make opponent discard their hand. However, lets take another look at your ability... In particular, this sentence:

“During any player's turn, when your opponent [...] draws cards (except for his Draw Segment or Ability), he overturns 1 card”

Also note that the draw effect on Evening up the Odds IS optional. Make your opponent decide whether to rebuild his hand (thus making his overturn), or not get hit with the overturn but keep your hand down. This card also helps keep your opponent's hand at bay. I love this card and try to put it in as many decks as I can.

Another good card to consider for a heel build is:

Quote
The Abraham Washington Show
Pre-match Event
Cannot be packed by The Heat Seekers.
When you are an Extremist, this card does not take up a Pre-match slot in your Ring and your opponent's Starting Hand Size is -1.
At the end of the Pre-match phase, search your Arsenal for 1 Heel Action, reveal it, put it in your hand, and shuffle.
The first Heel Action played on each of your turns is Multi when you do not have a card with that title in your Ring, and ignore "completely" on his reversal cards played to it.
His Once is Enough cards are +10F for each copy in his Ring.
F: 0     D: 0     Unique

This will help you search for and play that first turn 0F Spit at opponent, or 0F Bait Opponent. It will also, hopefully, get rid of your opponent's Once is Enough so he can't play another one until he gets to 10F.

It will also help you search out this card:

Quote
Grab <WWE logo> Timekeeper Mark Yeaton's Chair

Put 1 Foreign Object from your Ringside pile into your hand.
When your next card played this turn is a Foreign Object, choose 2: it is -20F, ignore the "Can only be played..." text, or your opponent's Reversal cards to it are +10F.
F: 5      D: 0

This card is 0F for Sandow, and he gets to choose all 3 options. This card, combined with an Overhand Chair Shot, or even better, Reverse 180-Degree Chair Shot is a GREAT way to start a game. I mention those two maneuvers because they are Multi and your opponent's Reach Exceeds Your Grasp can only reverse half of them.

Mark Yeaton's Chair brings up the topic of cards with multiple choices to take advantage of, such as:

Quote
McMahon Family Values
Action
Shuffle up to 3 of your cards that have been removed from the game into your Arsenal or shuffle any number of Unique cards and cards with the word "McMahon" in the title from your Ringside pile into your Arsenal.
Unique

This card combined with your specific Pre-Match will let you recycle those long titled cards and keep you living forever.

Quote
Technical Power Bomb
Grapple / Action
As a maneuver, you may search your Arsenal for 1 card with the word "technical" in the title, reveal it to your opponent, put it into your hand, and shuffle your Arsenal.
As an action, this card is -8F and -14D, shuffle this card into your Arsenal and then draw 1 card or your opponent discards 4 cards from his Backlash deck.
SV: 3
F: 16      D: 14

This card (playable as low as 5F) allows you to draw a card AND destroy your opponent's Backlash deck.

How about this game changer:

Choose one: draw up to 2 cards and put up to 1 card from your Ringside with the same title as a card from your Ring into your hand; or put 1 non-Superstar-specific card from your opponent's Ring into your Ring and discard 2 cards.
Whenever he searches for 1 card, he must reveal that card, and you may then search for 1 card with the same title as his card, reveal it, put it in your hand, and shuffle your Arsenal.
When this card is moved from your Ring, put any cards moved from his Ring into your Ring with this card into his Ring.
F: 8     D: 0     Unique     Cheater logo     RMS logo

Getting both options on this card is absurd. And jus think about playing ...You're Welcome after it... Might as well just take their entire ring area.

And another card with some good choices is, as teased above:

Quote
Two-Time!  Two-Time!
Action + Antic / Reversal: Special
When you have lower Fortitude, can only be reversed by 2 reversal cards. This card is -2F for each D: 2+ card in your opponent's Ring.
As an action, choose two of the following: draw up to 2 cards, shuffle up to 2 cards from your Ringside into your Arsenal, remove up to 2 cards in his Ringside from the game, flip up to 2 D: 0 cards in any Ring over, he puts 2 cards from his hand on the bottom of his Arsenal, or he overturns 2 cards.
As a reversal, this card is -22F; reverse Poke or Shake, and he discards 2 cards.
F: 22     D: 2     SV: 2     Unique     Multi     RMS logo     Permanent

Damian Sandow gets to choose 3 of these options. Need I say more?

And another favorite is:

Quote
ECW Championship Belt - Throwback

Superstar Value +1     Universally Unique     ECW logo

Not only do you get to choose both options, but if your opponent plays this card, you get to apply one of the options!

PART THREE
Specific Build Types

Damian Sandow is a superstar that can do just about anything. Personally, I went with a heavy heel build, using a bunch of good heel actions and maneuvers. Combine that with a dash of chain, and the maneuvers listed above, and I think you have a good base.

However, Sandow could also be a good Face build and still be quite an effective discard deck. Cards like the above mentioned Who Booked This Match?, and a powerful card like Face The Music can strip your opponent of a hand very effectively. And if they want to rebuild their hand, they have to get hit with your superstar ability.

In my heel build, I made Sandow a member of the NWO.

Another card you could use is

Quote
I'm Gonna Break You
Pre-match Event
At the end of the Pre-match phase, if your opponent has more cards in his Ring area than you have in your Ring area, look at his hand and choose # cards, where # is equal to the number of Pre-match cards he has in his Ring area and Ringside pile greater than you have in your Ring area and Ringside pile, and choose one: he discards the chosen cards or shuffles them into his Arsenal.
When this card is in your Ring area, when you have to remove any number of cards from the game, you may remove this card from the game instead of 1 of the cards.
Active
F: 0      D: 0

It's very rare that someone doesn't play all of their pre-match slots in the current meta. This card could really catch your opponent off guard. Having said that, there are more and more cards that prevent moving cards from your opponent's hand during the pre-match, but if your opponent isn't packing them you can strip away their maneuvers to limit the downside of I Cannot, And Will Not, Demean Myself By Engaging Such An Ignoramus This Evening!

PART FOUR
In Conclusion

I think Sandow has potential to be, if anything, an annoying deck your opponent will not look forward to playing against. I feel like he can be quite powerful, but is also susceptible to a few bad match ups. He probably belongs more in the 'fun' category over the 'competitive' category. I can't imagine me bringing a Damian Sandow deck to a major tournament, but maybe that would catch enough people off guard.

Thank you for reading this article! Let me know if I missed anything, or if you have other ideas for Sandow.

General Discussion: Raw Deal / Superstar Strategy Session #1: DDP
« on: March 27, 2019, 03:07:17 PM »
My goal is to spotlight and break down a different superstar every week by going in depth on their cards, referenced cards, and different types of builds for them.

I posted a poll on the TCO discord channel and we had a tie between Damian Sandow and DDP, so this week I'll spotlight is the Original People's Champ DDP, and next week I'll spotlight Damian Sandow

PART ONE
Let's take a look at his specifics:
Quote
DDP
Starting Hand Size: 6     Superstar Value: 3
WCW Superstar Ability:  Search your Arsenal for Give & Take or Hide and Seek, put it in your Ring, and shuffle; cards with those titles are Permanent and cannot be blanked.
When you have a Fan Favorite card in your Ring, your 360-Degree Clothesline maneuvers are -8F and can only be reversed by Unique reversals.
Your The Diamond Cutter is -5F for every non-Backlash DDP-specific card in your Ring. You cannot pack BASH cards.
V2
First thing to note, DDP is a WCW superstar. This gives him access to a bunch of very good cards I'll cover a little later in Part Two.

As for his superstar ability, Let me refresh your memories on Give & Take, and Hide & Seek:
Quote
Give & Take
Action
All players may put 2 cards from their Ringside pile on the bottom of their Arsenal.
When this card is in your Ring area, whenever your opponent successfully plays a card that allows him to search his Arsenal for any number of cards, you may search your Arsenal for 1 non-unique card, reveal it to him, put it into your hand, and shuffle your Arsenal.
Fan Favorite logo
Throwback
F: 0 D: 0

Hide and Seek
Action
When this card is in your Ring area, once during each of your turns you may put 1 card from your hand under this card. Cards under this card may be played as if they were in your hand. If this card is removed from your Ring area, put any cards under this card in your hand.
During your turn, you may put 1 card from under this card into your Ringside pile and then search your opponent’s hand or Arsenal for 1 card with the same title, remove that card from the game, and he shuffles his Arsenal.
¶ ¶ ¶ (Activated Card Effect Symbol)
Cheater logo
F: 0 D: 0
I believe the choice is clear. While Hide & Seek can be a good card, DDP leans heavily toward a Fan Favorite build. He gets so many bonuses for packing Fan Favorite cards, that it really makes no sense to go a Cheater route. So lets focus on Give & Take. Basically, when my opponent's card lets his search, I get to go get a non-unique card. That's pretty good! AND it also works during the pre-match phase. So if opponent plays a card like Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, or A No Show, you can go get a card and put it into your hand! Maybe a key reversal like Don't Try this at Home, or if you're going first you could search for a pump kick.

However, one of the biggest bonuses for building him Fan Favorite is the next line of his ability:

When you have a Fan Favorite card in your Ring, your 360-Degree Clothesline maneuvers are -8F and can only be reversed by Unique reversals.

And here's that card's text:
Quote
360-Degree Clothesline
Strike / Reversal: Special
As a reversal, reverse any maneuver with the word "kick" in the title and end your opponent's turn.
When successfully played, shuffle up to 3 cards from your Ringside pile into your Arsenal.
SV: 1
F: 12      D: 10
So you're telling me that if I put Give & Take into my ring that I get a 4F 10D strike that can only be reversed by uniques? Sign me right up for that! And as an added bonus, the reversal restriction is from his superstar ability and not 'From a card', so non-unique reversals that 'Ignore reversal restrictions from a card' cannot be played against his 360's, and that restriction is not effected by your opponent's Restricted Use in this Area. Point being: They're very difficult to reverse, and very easy to get in your hand.

Moving on to the rest of his backstage area Specifics:

Now we're talking. Another very good card, and another reason not to go Cheater. This card prevents your opponent from Ignoring text, reducing the damage of, or increasing the F of your printed Fan Favorite cards. I'll get into it a little later, but there are a few pretty good Fan Favorite maneuvers that your opponent cannot Sustain the damage of.

Also, this card gives you another option to try to push your maneuvers through. It comes at a cost, but there are a lot of ways to recover your cards that are removed from the game (including one that is Fan Favorite, but more on that later). Pro-Tip: 360 Clothesline doesn't have 'Reversed' in the text.

Moving on to his Backlash Deck specifics:

This card can be a lifesaver and a game changer. And it has those beautifully frustrating words 'Your opponent cannot respond to this card.' And now on to his Arsenal specifics:
Quote

Move over RKO, the original 'out of nowhere' finisher is here. Now, you may look at the 50F cost and think “How am I going to get there?” Well fret not, just take another look at DDP's superstar ability: 'Your The Diamond Cutter is -5F for every non-Backlash DDP-specific card in your Ring.'

This makes this card at least a little easier to play. The biggest dilemma is whether to play The diamond Cutter as a Maneuver or as a Reversal. I would likely save it as a reversal. Simply for the reason that with the text of the Shenanigans cards, you cannot make your opponent discard their whole hand. It's instead replaced with randomly discarding half of their hand. Still could be good, but not nearly as devastating.

But as a reversal, it hits ANY CARD. So, yeah, save it as a reversal.

When playing this card, you may remove up to 6 cards in your Ringside from the game, and this card is -2F for each card removed this way; when you remove 2+ cards, this card cannot be reversed from hand.
Shuffle up to 2 cards from your Ringside into your Arsenal, draw up to 2 cards, search your Arsenal for 2 cards, put them in your hand, shuffle, and remove this card from the game.
F: 20     D: 0     Unique     WCW logo
This card is also good. It can allow you to search for any 2 cards in your arsenal, and you can always recover this card later since it gets removed from the game when successful.

That's it for his specific cards. I believe they can be quite powerful and they interact very well together.

PART TWO
Now let's look at a few non-specific cards that can be helpful for DDP. I've already focused on a few above, but you may also want to consider:
Quote
Givin' 'em High Fives
Pre-match Event
Reveal the top 5 cards of your Arsenal, put 2 into your hand, and remove the rest from the game.
Fan Favorite Logo
Throwback
F: 0      D: 0
Puts more cards in your hand, and more Fan Favorite cards in your ring. Win/Win.
Quote
A Legendary Comeback
Mid-match Action + Action: Face
Cannot be packed by The Home Team.
When you have lower Fortitude and your opponent's Fortitude Rating is 20+, he cannot respond to this card.
Shuffle up to # cards from your Ringside and/or removed from the game into your Arsenal, where # is the number of Fan Favorite cards and cards with 'legend', 'fans', 'crowd', or 'USA' in the title in your Ring; draw cards up to your Superstar Value (to a maximum of 5 cards).
When this card is in your Ring, the number of cards moved to your Arsenal from Ringside or that are removed from the game by your cards and card effects is reduced to 0.
F: 0     D: 0     Unique     Multi     Permanent     Fan Favorite logo
Kind of a last resort card, but it can be the difference between winning and losing.
Quote
Blindside Hook
Strike
When successfully played, your opponent draws 1 card.
You may play this card from your Ringside pile.
When played from your Ringside pile, remove 1 card in your hand from the game.
Fan Favorite logo
F: 0 D: 6

Blindside Drop Toe Hold
Grapple
You may play this card from your Ringside pile.
When played from your Ringside pile, your opponent may put 1 Pre-match or Mid-match card that does not have the word “blindside” in the title from your Ring area into your Ringside pile.
Fan Favorite logo
F: 4 D: 10
Both of these moves are Fan Favorite and can be played from ringside (albeit at a cost).
Quote
Straight Clothesline
Strike: Volley: 6
This card is -4F when your Fortitude Rating is less than or equal to your opponent's Fortitude Rating.
Fan Favorite Logo
SV: 1
F: 4      D: 6
Very good Fan Favorite Volley maneuver. A good way to get started on F.
Quote
Blindsided by the Dangerous Divas
Action: Run-in
Can only be played when you have at least 2 cards in your Ring area with the word “blindside” in the title.
Remove the top 5 cards of your Arsenal from the game and then shuffle up to 10 of your cards that have been removed from the game into your Arsenal.
You may play this card from your Ringside pile.
When played from your Ringside pile, discard 1 card.
Fan Favorite logo
F: 4 D: 0
If packing the above Blindside cards, this card is a must pack.
Quote
Kristal: Broadcast Beauty
Action: Run-in
Shuffle 7 of your cards removed from the game into your Arsenal.
When this card is in your Ring area or hand, your cards titled Kristal: Broadcast Beauty may replace 1 card listed on <WWE logo> Divas: The Next Generation or <WWE logo> Divas Rule!
Fan Favorite Logo
F: 14 D: 0
I would pack no less than two of these in DDP. AND since it's fan favorite, it isn't effected by your opponent's Hell in a Cell or The Finisher.
Quote
DDP Yoga
Action + Action
Overturn 2 cards, put up to 1 card from your Ringside into your hand, and put up to 1 of your cards removed from the game on the bottom of your Arsenal.  When you are DDP, you may triple those numbers.
F: 10     D: 0     Unique     Multi
It isn't a stretch (pun intended) to pack this card. Good RFG recovery and it's Multi.
Quote
It's Great To Be Back Here In...
Reversal: Special
This card ignores any "can only be reversed" restriction from a card.
Reverse any non-unique card with a "can only be reversed" restriction and end your opponent's turn. The first card you play on your next turn is -10F if you have a Venue card in your Ring area.
Fan Favorite Logo
F: 0      D: 0
This card is basically already a staple, but given the fact that it's Fan Favorite, DDP loves it that much more.

ALSO, DDP being a WCW superstar, he has access to (or gets bonuses from) the following cards:
F: 0     D: 0     Unique     Permanent     RMS logo     WCW logo

Welcome to Monday Nitro!
F: 0     D: 0     Unique     Permanent     RMS logo     WCW logo

One of the Big Boys
Pre-match Event
This card cannot be blanked; cannot be packed when packing Pre-match cards with 'McMahon' in the title.
Overturn 6 cards.  At the end of the Pre-match phase, put up to 1 non-Unique card in your Ringside into your hand.
When this card is in your Ring, your opponent's non-Unique non-Superstar-specific reversals deal no more than 1D, and when you are a WCW Superstar and you have greater Fortitude, once during each of your turns you may put 1 card from under a WCW card on the bottom of your Arsenal.
F: 0     D: 0     Unique     Permanent

Chaos and Pandemonium at Ringside!
Maneuver: Special
When you are a WCW Superstar, this card is Multi.
When played, choose up to 5 cards in your hand, shuffle them into your Arsenal and draw the same number of cards +1.  Your opponent shuffles # random cards from his hand into his Arsenal and draws up to # cards, where # is the number you chose; for each card he draws, this card is +1D and when successfully played, he removes 1 random card in his Ringside from the game.
F: 13     D: 4     SV: 2     Unique     WCW logo

A Great Deal of Confusion - Throwback
Reversal: Special
Requirement: Allegiance: WCW
When played, you may ignore a 'can only be reversed' or 'cannot be reversed' effect from a card.
Reverse any non-Superstar-specific card that 'cannot be reversed' or with a 'can only be reversed' effect.  Draw up to 1 card, and put up to 1 card under Halloween Havoc and up to 1 of your cards removed from the game under Where the Big Boys Play.
F: 5    D: 0     Unique     WCW logo

Ready to Rumble
Action: Movie
When you are Goldberg or a WCW Superstar, this card is F: 0 and cannot be reversed.
Discard 1 card, shuffle 5 cards from your Ringside into your Arsenal, and your next card played this turn cannot be reversed.
Your The King Interferes! is -15F.
F: 14     D: 0     Unique     WCW logo
PART THREE
Specific Build Types

DDP isn't a superstar that is pigeonholed to a certain build. He can work in a few ways. I found that a mix of Blindside, Volley, Precision and hard to reverse maneuvers like German Suplex or Boot Lace. Is plenty.

In a more competitive environment, one could really focus on reversal restriction maneuvers and combine them with his 360 clotheslines. I imagine that could work quite well with Atomic Lariat, Preciscion Haymaker, and the above mentioned German Suplex.

DDP can also survive for a very long time. I went with Wrestlemania in the pre-match. If you successfully activate it, opponent is left with no hand. You can then play your specific mid match action (which they cannot respond to), then you can play Precision Personified (which they cannot RTV), and search for a Presicion Kick (which can only be reversed from hand), and maybe you follow that up with Victory Roll (Which means you win the game).

PART FOUR
In Conclusion:

DDP can be a fun deck or a competitive deck with relative ease. He can control the game if he's ahead, and he can stay competitive if he's behind. All in all, I would recommend trying him out. And that isn't a bad thing, that's a good thing.

Please comment anything I may have forgotten or overlooked, or if you've built a DDP deck before!

I hope you enjoyed this, and hopefully learned a few things. Check back next week when I cover Damian Sandow!
