My goal is to spotlight and break down a different superstar every week by going in depth on their cards, referenced cards, and different types of builds for them.

I posted a poll on the TCO discord channel and this week's superstar this strategy session is dedicated to The Dangerous Alliance!

PART ONE
Let's take a look at their specifics:

Quote
The Dangerous Alliance
Starting Hand Size: 6     Superstar Value: 8
Superstar Ability: Whenever your opponent draws up to 3 cards for any reason other than his Superstar Ability or his Draw Segment, you may draw up to the same number of cards. You may play the card titled Handicap Match, even if your opponent cannot play any belt except the Tag Team Title Belts. You cannot play Title Belt cards. Your opponent cannot play the card titled Handicap Match.
RA

They also can pack this:

Quote
The Numbers Game
Backstage Card
Can only be packed by Right To Censor, Hall & Nash, The People's Team, The Dangerous Alliance, FBI, The Home Team, The Heat Seekers, The Spirit Squad, or a Stable.  When packing this card, you may pack Handicap Match.
You are a Stable, and your opponent cannot play Handicap Match.  When he is not a Stable, you may ignore the "Can only be played..." text on Handicap Match, and he must discard 1 card to play a Run-in.
Unique

The Dangerous Alliance are a Stable with a 6 hand and and 8 value. A 6 SHS is pretty good, but the 8 SSV is elite territory and gives them a great advantage to potentially start the game.

As far as their actuall Superstar Ability, I have always liked it. ANY TIME your opponent draws 3- cards (other than draw segment or their ability) you can draw that many. This includes during the pre-match phase. Opponent plays Premiere Smackdown Superstar? You get to draw all those cards right along with them. I'll discuss other good cards for them to take advantage of later on in Part 2.

It's too bad they cannot pack title belts, despite all of the gold Undertaker, Brock Lesnar, and Kurt Angle have held. Maybe in a future virtual release they'll be able to pack belts.

When packing this card, you may pack Backed by Paul Heyman.
Your non-reversal The Dangerous Alliance-specific cards are F: 0 and Multi, and when you have lower Fortitude, they can only be reversed by 2 non-hybrid reversal cards.
ACE: Once during each of your turns you may discard 2 cards and if your next card played is a maneuver, it is Multi.
ACE: Once during each of your turns you may discard 2 cards and if your next card played is a maneuver, it is Chain.
F: 0     D: 0     Unique     Permanent
V1

There's a lot to unpack with this card. Firstly, they get to pack Backed by Paul Heyman, with is a pretty good card, and gives you reason to pack the other Heyman cards.

Next, their non-reversal specifics are reduced to F:0 and become quite difficult to reverse with lower F. As we'll see going forward  how this interacts with their other cards.

Now let's get to the meat of this card. It has 2 Ace's, and both can be very effective. The first effect allows you to discard 2 cards to make your next maneuver a multi, and the second effect allows you to discard 2 and make your next card chain. Both of these are good – BUT costly. Even though the Dangerous Alliance have the ability to draw a bunch of cards, if either of these ACE's are reversed with DTTAH, then you're going to be discarding a total of 4 cards – that's hurts anyone.

However, if either (or both) of these ACE's are successful, it can really give the DA a nice advantage of throwing hard to reverse maneuvers. And if you keep throwing Chain maneuvers, your opponent is going to wnt to draw cards – which is a good thing for you.

This card is pretty good at F:12. It's REALLY good at F:0. It's incredible at F:0, multi, and only reversible by 2 non-hybrid reversals. Being able to strip your opponent of ANY mid match card can really help DA's get an early advantage. Being able to get rid of Cow on Ice, Restricted Use, Sustained Damage, or maybe a key superstar-specific.

Unlike Brock Lesnar, The DA actually do have a reason to play this card as a maneuver with it being F:0, and possibly Chain + Multi. But, above all, it's a really good reversal.

This is an interesting card. Not only is it a TMF with a generous F to D ratio, but it has a pretty neat effect when it's in your ringside. WHENEVER your opponent causes you to discard cards, he has to discard that many. That includes their superstar ability, the chain trait, or a card effct like DTTAH. Of course, they can put it on the bottom of your arsenal, albeit at a pretty steep price.

This card isn't nearly as fun as the last one, but it's still a TMF. I wish this card did something more... like “Your next ACE cannot be reversed” type thing, but regardless, no reason not to pack this card.

This card is surprisingly playable as an action for DA. Being multi itself – it can help you land a significant action when you need it. However, 9/10 times you'll play this as a reversal.

Search your Arsenal for 1 non-unique Submission maneuver, reveal it to your opponent, put it into your hand, and shuffle your Arsenal. You may put 1 Mid-match card from his Ring area into his Ringside pile or if your next card played this turn is a Submission maneuver, it cannot be reversed.
F: 5     D: 0     Unique

Remember, this card is F:0, so if it ends up in your opening hand it could potentially spell trouble for your opponent. An overlooked effect of this card is to get rid of a mid match card. Sustained damage is the obvious choice.

Shuffling in 6 cards for F:0 is pretty good, and it lets you pick up an action – maybe a Don't be a Douchebag, of Ref Takes a Bump, or maybe one of their specifics.

That's it for their specific cards. They don't have many, but they're all decent.

PART TWO
Non-specific cards that can be helpful for Dangerous Alliance.

First, let's look at the rest of the Paul Heyman support cards.

Can only be played when your opponent plays a card, he puts that card into his hand (or Backlash, if applicable), it is considered not to be played, and end his turn; when you have 4+ cards with 'Heyman' in the title, you may put his card into his Ring, Ringside, or remove it from the game instead.
F: 12     D: 0     Unique

I'm a big fan of Paul Hayman's shoot promo, It can snipe key cards at opportune times. The rest of the cards are just okay in my opinion.

Now let's look at cards that DA can use that work well with their superstar ability:

Those are only a handful of cards that can trigger their ability, and doesn't include opponent's cards/effect that would also trigger DA's ability.

There's one card in particular that I'd like to point out:

Quote
Evening Up the Odds
Pre-match Event
Cannot be packed by Ric Flair or by a Stable.
At the start of each player's turn before their Draw Segment, when they have more than 7 cards in their hand, they shuffle 1 random card from hand into their Arsenal; when they have more than 14 cards in their hand, they shuffle 1 random additional card; and when they have less than 7 cards in their hand, they may draw 1 card.
Before any players' Draw Segment, when both players have 7 cards in hand, put this card from your Ring into your Ringside.
F: 0     D: 0     Unique

Anyone who reads these articles knows about my love for this card.

I know what you're thinking, “DA are a stable so they can't pack Evening Up the Odds.”

Wrong. They are allowed to pack It's a Number's Game which makes them a stable WHEN IT'S REVEALED. So they can pack Evening Up the Odds all day long.

So why is this card potentially a good card for them? Not only does it help offset all the discarding you'll be doing for your Pre-Match ACE's, but you're opponent is going to want to rebuild his hand because of all of the chain maneuvers you'll be throwing at him. Point being – when he draw for this, you draw for this.

I'll touch upon a few other key cards during...

PART THREE
Specific Build Types

Dangerous Alliance is another one of those superstars that can be built in a multitude of styles. I'll cover a few of them here.

First Idea: Chain + Heat

This seems like the obvious build for them, considering their pre-match card. The idea is pretty simple – discard your heat cards to make them chain. And you can combine all of that with this:

Quote
Sizzling Clothesline
Strike: Heat
When this card is in your Ringside pile, your non-unique printed F:0 Heat maneuvers are considered Multi maneuvers.
Fan Favorite logo
F: 12 D: 13

This will give you a decent way to get early fortitude. Your opponent can only reverse so many Chain/Multi Heat maneuvers until one will finally land.

I've often found that the hardest part of a heat deck was keeping your hand, and Dangerous Alliance shouldn't have too much of a problem with that.

(Bonus fact: Since DA's specific pre-match has “Chain” in the text, you can pack it with All Together Now)

Second Idea: BASH

This is similar to the last entry where you keep throwing Chain/Multi maneuvers. The three base BASH maneuvers are all multi:

Quote
BASH Headlock
Submission + Submission
Cannot be packed by Female Superstars.
When successfully played, your opponent discards 1 card.
Multi
F: 2 D: 6

BASH Suplex
Grapple + Grapple
Cannot be packed by Female Superstars.
Multi
SV: 1
F: 3 D: 7

BASH Punch
Strike + Strike
Cannot be packed by Female Superstars.
Multi
F: 4 D: 8

BASH also provides you with 3 starting F and a pretty decent reversal pool early in the game.

Third Idea: Backed by Vickie

Quote
Backed by Smackdown GM Vickie Guerrero
Pre-match Event
Cannot be packed when packing Enforcers or by a Legend, or by Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, Latino Cheat, Rey Mysterio, Shane O'Mac, or The People's Champ.
Your opponent cannot play non-Superstar-specific non-D:0 reversals (except Manager Interferes) or Overshot Your Mark to your first non-Superstar-specific Smackdown non-F:0 maneuver played each turn.
Your next Pre-match Smackdown card played gains the text "Your Pre-match Capacity is +1."
F: 0     D: 0     Unique     Smackdown logo

What's more difficult to reverse than the Vickie protected maneuvers? Vickie maneuvers that are chain and/or multi!

Vickie is already elite, but DA can make it even better.

Fourth Idea: Blindside

I already pointed out Blindside Hook as a possible card DA can exploit. But the main reason I bring up Blindside is because they don't mind being discarded and hanging out in the ringside. Discard two blindside cards and then play a chain Blindside Hook, or a Multi Blindside Tornado Strike, or a Chain/Multi Blindside Slam...

I'll end it there, but be sure that DA can be built with any of the standard archetypes of Raw Deal, or can simply be a “good cards” deck. As long as they keep drawing cards, they should be decent.

PART FOUR
In Conclusion:

For some unexplained reason, Dangerous Alliance just doesn't work all that often. They usually find themselves in the “Bottom of the barrel” discussions. It probably has something to do with the prevalence of ACE reversals really hurting them. But I believe that if build the right way, they can compete with the best of them.

Please comment anything I may have forgotten or overlooked, or if you've built Dangerous Alliance before!

I hope you enjoyed this, and hopefully learned a few things.

Check back next week when I cover Festus!

Am I correct in assuming that if I'm one of the listed superstars I'm only a stable when this card is revealed? Simply packing it will not make me a stable?

My goal is to spotlight and break down a different superstar every week by going in depth on their cards, referenced cards, and different types of builds for them.

I posted a poll on the TCO discord channel and this week's Superstar Strategy Session is dedicated to Victoria!

PART ONE
Let's take a look at her specifics:

Quote
Victoria
Starting Hand Size: 6     Superstar Value: 1
Diva Superstar Ability: Once during each of your turns you may shuffle your hand into your Arsenal and draw the same number of cards. Your cards titled Battling the Voices are -6F and cannot be reversed.
DO, SS3

A 6 hand is pretty good when coupled with a 1 SSV, this makes it easy to bump up into double digits with Underrated Superstar and a couple other good cards.

Also, Victoria is a Diva, so that gives her access to a bunch of good cards.

However, It's her Superstar Ability that I really like. Being able to shuffle your hand in and draw that many again can be an amazing option at all points in the game. Have a large hand? Great, lets see what else we can get. Have a small hand? Test your luck and try to get a better one. This ability is ALWAYS useful. And Battling the Voices is a pretty decent card. I'll include it in Part 2.

Quote
Managed by Stevie Richards
Pre-match Manager
The maximum number of Pre-match cards you may have in your Ring area is reduced by 1.
When this card is in your Ring area, you may put this card into your Ringside pile to reverse any non-unique maneuver and end your opponent's turn.
When this card is in your Ringside pile, during your turn you may discard 4 cards and then put this card into your Ring area. When the card titled Stevie Interferes is in your Ring area, discard 1 card instead.

DO, SS3

This is a very good card. I wish the reduced Pre-Match clause wasn't there, but her next cards helps that out. This card on it's own is similar to Managed by Jimmy Hart, being that it can reverse a non-unique maneuver by putting it into ringside. But the good thing about this card is that it can bring itself back. Discarding 4 is a pretty steep price, but it gets dropped down to only 1 card when Stevie Interferes is in your ring.

Quote
The Voices Are Getting Louder!
Pre-match Event
This card and Managed by Stevie Richards do not take up a Pre-match slot in your Ring.
Your Battling the Voices cards are Multi, and during your turn, ACE: you may remove 1 of those cards in your Ring from the game to put a Victoria-specific action from your Ringside into your hand.  When that card is Backed by Torrie and Candice, you may put that card into your Ring instead.

This card gives you a net +1 pre-match when your manager is in your ring. Battling the Voices becomes nearly impossible to reverse now, and you can ACE one of them to get one of your specific actions from ringside. This is a pretty good card.

Mid-Match reversals are always welcome, and this one is non-unique. However, Victoria being a female/diva superstar AND a Raw superstar means that she will not have any room to spare in her backlash deck.

I really like this card. High Risks are already pretty difficult to reverse, and this one is playable on your first turn. But it's also a very good action, one that allows you to put Stevie back into your ring at a discount, or to draw 2 cards. Great way to start the game.

An easily playable TMF with F:20 and D:20 is very nice. And, like so many of her cards, it can recover itself – albeit at a very high cost. However, if you have all of your mid match slots filled, there's no downside to removing your backlash from the game.

This card is good, but you have to choose between this card and her Mid-Match card, which is a pretty tough choice.

As for the effects, putting a unique card into your hand is good, and being able to save cards in your hand is also good so they aren't lost to your superstar ability. It's a good card, but you may want the mid-match reversals instead.

In the right situation, this could be a great card. It can allow you to draw a bunch of cards and/or let you play a high F cost for cheap. But it's also possible that this card won't really do that much. No reason not to pack it – but don't count on it working every game.

Alternatively, Victoria could also pack these:

The Era of the Superstar
Backstage Card
Can only be packed by a Female Superstar. Cannot be packed by a GM. When packing this card, you are not a Diva and cannot pack cards as if you were a Diva.
You may ignore card effects from your opponent’s non-Superstar-specific cards with 'female' or 'diva' in the text that would move cards from your hand, reveal your hand, or allow him to search your Arsenal.
When played as a Counter, your maneuvers without ‘reversed’ in the text are -2F.

But perhaps the most important non-specific card Victoria should pack is this:

Quote
McMahonism
Pre-match Allegiance: McMahonism
The first time during each of your turns you would draw cards outside of your Draw Segment, look at that many cards on the top of your Arsenal first and you may put any of those cards on the bottom of your Arsenal.
When you are Vince McMahon, Shane O'Mac, The Genetic Jackhammer, or The McMahon Dynasty, you may use this effect during your Draw Segment instead.

With this card, when Victoria uses her superstar ability, she can cycle through a lot of her arsenal and set up her ideal hand. Along with this card, she will want cards that allow her to draw – this way she can constantly cycle her hand.

PART THREE
Specific Build Types

First Idea: BASH

Being a female superstar, Victoria cannot pack Multi maneuvers, and early multi maneuvers are the bread and butter of BASH. However, Bash allows you to start with 3F, which makes her mid-match action reversal playable on the first turn. And Victoria can more than make up for a lack of multi maneuvers if she has a plethora of annoying reversal restriction maneuvers. A few that come to mind (other than the above mentioned female/diva moves) are:

Quote
Boot Lace
Strike / Action
Cannot be reversed from your opponent's hand.
As a maneuver, can only be played if you reversed a card from your hand or Arsenal to end your opponent's last turn and this is the first card played of your turn.
As an action, discard this card and draw 1 card. Doing this will cause no damage to your opponent.
F: 2      D: 4

German Suplex

When this is the first card played of your turn and you reversed a card from your hand to end your opponent's last turn, this card can only be reversed from his Backlash deck or Arsenal.

Atomic Lariat
Strike
Can only be reversed by hybrid or unique Reversal cards.

F: 6      D: 6

Precision Haymaker

When played, name a number 5 or less. Your opponent draws that many cards. This card is -2F for each number named.
Cannot be reversed from your opponent’s hand by non-hybrid cards.
¶ (Restricted Modification Symbol)
SV: 2
F: 18 D: 22

Along with the starting 3F, BASH also gives you access to a bunch of pretty good reversals you can play early in the game.

Second Idea: Chain

The whole idea of chain is to gain a hand advantage over your opponent. Victoria, more than a lot of superstars can benefit pretty greatly by this. Chain is arguable the most popular, and perhaps the most powerful mechanic in Raw Deal, why shouldn't Victoria take advantage of that?

Second Idea: Volley

I've said it in previous articles, but Volley maneuvers = high Stun Value. Stun Value gives you more cards in your hand when your maneuver is reversed from arsenal (except on the last card). Victoria loves having a nice large hand size to cycle through her arsenal with her ability.

Also, I've always felt that Volley is a pretty powerful mechanic. Combine Volley with a little hand destruction, and you can really control your opponent.

Third Idea: Dynamic

Dynamic got a nice big boost in virtual. Mainly due to this card:

Quote
Dynamically Inclined
Backstage Card
Cannot be packed by Doink.
Before starting hands are drawn, search your Arsenal and Ringside for 10 non-Trademark-Finisher maneuvers with "dynamic" in the title, put them under this card, and shuffle;  if you do not, hide this card.  At the end of the Pre-match Phase, choose 1 card under this card, put it into your hand, and shuffle the other cards into your Arsenal.
Your Pre-match Capacity is +1 for each The Luck of The Draw card in your Ring greater than 1.
Your non-Unique maneuvers with "dynamic" in the title are -3F and +2D.
When you have lower Fortitude, your opponent is considered to have double the number of reversals in his Ring for your effects with "dynamic" in the title or text.
Unique     RMS logo

This can give you a nice opening hand full of reversals, and a guaranteed starting maneuver in hand.

Also, these cards are pretty good as well:

Quote
Find Out How to Fight From Finlay
Pre-match Event
Your opponent cannot play Pre-match cards with the word “old” in the title that are Active or Unique.
Your Action cards with the word “dynamic” in the title are considered Multi cards.

When this card is in your Ring area, once during each turn, you may discard 1 Heat maneuver or put 1 Dynamic maneuver from your hand on the bottom of your Arsenal and then draw 1 card and put 1 card from your Ringside pile on the bottom of your Arsenal.
You may put this card into your Ringside pile to completely reverse any card that allows your opponent to search his Arsenal and end his turn.
¶ ¶ ¶ (Activated Card Effect Symbol)
F: 0 D: 0

My Name is Matt Striker … and I Am Your Teacher
Mid-match Action
Can only be played when there is a card with “dynamic” in the title in your Ringside pile.
When your opponent reverses a maneuver from his hand and he has 5 or more Reversal cards in his Ring area and you have a card with “dynamic” in the title in your Ringside pile, you may put this card into your Ring area.
When this card is in your Ring area, once during each of your turns you may reveal 1 card in your hand with the word “dynamic” in the title and then search your Arsenal for 1 card with the word “dynamic” in the title, reveal it to your opponent, put it into your hand, and shuffle your Arsenal.
¶ ¶ ¶ (Activated Card Effect Symbol)
F: 0 D: 3

Fourth Idea: Back to Basics

Back to Basics is another card that got a tremendous boost in virtual Raw Deal. And Victoria can also still play McMahonism while having a B2B deck,

However, you lose the ability to play Managed by Stevie Richards during the pre-match phase. BUT if you can figure out a way to put it into your ringside during the game, you can also use it's text to return it to the ring area.

PART FOUR
In Conclusion:

Victoria is someone who can built pretty much any way and always be at least decent. I don't think she is an elite superstar, but she has pretty good card support, both with her her own specifics AND Female/Diva support, and her ability allows her to fish for whatever key card she needs that turn.

I also feel like she would be a great superstar to give to a beginner to teach them the game.

Please comment anything I may have forgotten or overlooked, or if you've built Victoria before!

I hope you enjoyed this, and hopefully learned a few things.

Check back next week when I cover The Dangerous Alliance!

General Discussion: Raw Deal / Superstar Strategy Session #13: Tazz
« on: June 26, 2019, 03:09:56 PM »
My goal is to spotlight and break down a different superstar every week by going in depth on their cards, referenced cards, and different types of builds for them.

I posted a poll on the TCO discord channel and this week's Superstar Strategy Session is dedicated to The Human Suplex Machine... TAZZ!

PART ONE
Let's take a look at his specifics:

Quote
Tazz
Starting Hand Size: 5     Superstar Value: 2
Superstar Ability: Once during each of your turns, you may discard 1 card and then search your Arsenal for 1 card with the word "suplex" in the title, reveal it to your opponent, put it into your hand, and shuffle your Arsenal.
Your maneuvers with the word "suplex" in the title are -4F and they cannot be reversed by cards with the word "suplex" in the title.
FL, SS1, SS2

A 5 hand size is low, but it allows you to use Buying Myself Some Time, and is also pretty easy to increase. A 2 superstar value is also low, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

As far as his ability goes, it's quite good. Being able to go get a move every turn at a minimal cost is very good, and those maneuvers are discounted by 4F... which is exactly the F cost of this card:

Quote
German Suplex
Grapple
When this is the first card played of your turn and you reversed a card from your hand to end your opponent's last turn, this card can only be reversed from his Backlash deck or Arsenal.
Throwback
F: 4      D: 8

So Tazz has F:0 German Suplex's that he can search for. That is a GREAT thing to be able to do.

Quote
Beat Me if You Can...Survive if I Let You
Backstage Card
When packing this card, you can pack No Sell Maneuver.
Your maneuvers cannot be reversed by Elbow to the Face or Spine Buster, your Tazz-specific cards are Multi, and ignore the "Then, discard cards..." text on The Mood Is About to Change.
When your Fortitude Rating is 10-, you may remove a Tazz-specific Pre-match card in your Ring from the game to reverse a non-Superstar-specific non-maneuver card.
Unique     RMS logo     ECW logo
V1

Tazz got a huge boost in virtual with this card. Allowing him to pack No Sell Maneuver (which is a realy good reversal), Making ALL of his maneuvers immune to Elbow and Spine Buster is very good, his Specific's are now multi, and one of his actions becomes much better. Seemingly righting all of his wrongs. He also gets to reverse actions from his ring early in the game.

Oh, and this is an ECW card, which allows him to pack this:

Quote
The House That Hardcore Built
Backstage Card
This card is considered Superstar-specific.
Can only be packed when you have an ECW card in your Backstage Area.  When packing this card, you cannot pack nWo cards.
Your Foreign Objects are -4F, and your opponent’s non-Unique reversals to your Foreign Object and Extreme cards deal no damage.
Your Revolution ECW Originals gains your logo, and cards with "ECW" in the title do not take up a Pre-match slot in your Ring.
Unique     ECW logo     RMS logo

Of course, this seemingly doesn't help Tazz out all that much.

Quote
ECW's Human Suplex Machine
Pre-match Event
Cannot be blanked or moved from your Ring by your opponent's effects.
Your Human Suplex Machine cards are not Active, and replace their 'Can only be' text with 'Cannot be reversed when'. Your cards with 'Tazz' in the text are Multi and can only be reversed by 2 reversal cards. When you have lower Fortitude, your non-hybrid non-Revolution Tazz-specific cards played from hand are -13F.
F: 0     D: 0     Unique     ECW logo
V7

Here's the text for Human Suplex Machine:

Quote
Human Suplex Machine
Mid-match Grapple
Can only be played after a successfully played maneuver with the word "suplex" in the title.
Cannot be reversed by the card titled Backlash!
When successfully played, search your Arsenal for a card with the word "suplex" in the title, reveal it to your opponent, put it into your hand, and shuffle your Arsenal.
Smackdown logo
Active
F: 7      D: 7

So basically, Human Suplex Machine becomes playable – I'll take it. There are also a few good maneuvers with “Tazz” in the text that I'll get to in Part 2. But my favorite part of this card is the last part, “When you have lower Fortitude, your non-hybrid non-Revolution Tazz-specific cards played from hand are -13F.” This makes his specifics much much better. You'll see as we go along.

Pretty basic here, reduse his hand by 1 and increase your pre and mid by 1. No reason not to pack this card. And remember, it can act as a non-maneuver reversal because of your Backstage Area card. And it has the Smackdown logo if you're going to a Premiere Smackdown build.

Nine times out of Ten with this card I would go search for:

Quote
Ref Takes A Bump
Action

F: 0     D: 0     Unique     Permanent

and the other time out of ten I would get this card:

Quote
Don't be a Douchebag!
Action / Reversal: Special
As an action, cannot be reversed when you have lower Fortitude; shuffle up to 2 cards from your Ringside into your Arsenal.
As a reversal, ignore any reversal restriction from a card, reverse any non-Unique maneuver that is Revolution or has a reversal restriction from your opponent; when overturned, can also reverse any non-damage card effect (even during the Pre-Match phase), and put this card in to your Ring.
Choose one: draw 1 card or he discards 1 card.
F: 0     D: 2     Unique     Permanent

It can feel risky to discard a random card, however, when you combine it with Managed by Vince McMahon or One of the Big Boys, it mitigates the loss.

Quote

F: 13     D: 6     SV: 1     Unique     Multi
V7

This card will almost certainly be played as a reversal each game. Tazz has enough good suplexes to throw to have to play this as a maneuver. Being able to reverse any strike is quite good. Most superstars have a specific strike.

Quote

Grapple / Reversal: High Risk

F: 13     D: 10     SV: 2     Unique

There are only a few more satisfying feelings than playing this card as a reversal. And there are more high risks being played in this Raw Deal environment than ever before. Tazz can get to F:13 pretty easily, so this card is pretty accessible early.

Quote
Northern Lights Tazzplex
Grapple / Reversal: Grapple

When successfully played, you may draw 1 card.
F: 15     D: 13     SV: 1     Unique

Another great reversal, this time hitting grapples. You'll notice that Tazz has a bunch of really good reversals, and this one hurts a lot. But the good thing about this card and the last card is that they are both very playable as maneuvers in the right situation.

Quote
T-Bone Tazzplex

One of the most devastating cards in the Fully Loaded era, back when “Cannot be reversed” meant WAYYYYY more than “Cannot respond to.”

This card is still super powerful, although there are a number of cards that stop it now. Oh, and one more thing to remember – this card is -13F when you have lower F. Excellent card.

Quote
Tazzmission
Trademark Finisher / Reversal: Special
As a maneuver, if your next card played this turn is the card titled Maintain Hold, you can ignore the "Can only be played after..." text.
As a reversal, reverse any Strike, Grapple, or Submission maneuver and end your opponent’s turn.
F: 25     D: 13     SV: 3     Unique
FL, SS1, SS2

Another card that is played as a reversal 99% of the time. Hitting all the major types, there's no question why it is. However, being a trademark finisher, it can be worth playing as a maneuver. And the maintain hold text is just about worthless. If you pack maintain hold in Tazz.... you're doing it wrong.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE FOLLOWING CARDS ARE F:0 WHEN YOU HAVE LOWER F:

BL, SS2

Here's a word of advice for anyone who's going to play this card: Only play this card if you have a Sidewalk Slam, or any other card that reverses an irreversible card.

Ok, now that that's clear, I think this card can really open up the game for Tazz. Getting 3 straight plunged cards, especially early in the contest, can be a game changer.

F: 13     D: 0     Unique
SUM, SS2

This card used to be a so-so card. Now it's a really great one. Especially if your opponent is a superstar that consistently has a huge hand. Making his discard down to 7, and allowing you to shuffle your hand into your arsenal and draw 13 (remember that you don't discard because of your Backstage Area card).

This is a good card- not as great as his others- but still good. Shuffling 10 cards is always good, and drawing 3 is always good. I only wish it didn't end your turn, but that's just me being greedy.

That's all of Tazz's specifics. They were all already good, virtual bumped them up into great territory. Tazz finally got the respect he never got in the WWE.

PART TWO
Non-specific cards that can be helpful for Tazz:

(Since Tazz doesn't have too many specific build types, Part Two will be a bit longer this week and Part Three will be a little shorter.)

Any Tazz player will tell you that keeping a hand size is the most difficult thing for Tazz. And anytime I hear anyone say this about any superstar, I suggest my favorite card:

Quote

At the start of each player's turn before their Draw Segment, when they have more than 7 cards in their hand, they shuffle 1 random card from hand into their Arsenal; when they have more than 14 cards in their hand, they shuffle 1 random additional card; and when they have less than 7 cards in their hand, they may draw 1 card.
Before any players' Draw Segment, when both players have 7 cards in hand, put this card from your Ring into your Ringside.
F: 0     D: 0     Unique

I am unapologetic about my love for this card. It helps almost anyone with a superstar ability that is used by discarding. And with Chain being such a popular build, this card has never been more useful.

Two other cards Tazz can build his hand with are:

PART THREE
Specific Build Types

So, look... With Tazz you're just going to want to throw suplexes and play pain reversals until you win. It's not too difficult. So anything I could give here wouldn't make any sense. It's pretty simple, really, Throw big suplexes.

PART FOUR
In Conclusion:

Tazz was instantly top tier when he was released during Fully Loaded, he then dropped down a few rungs, but Virtual gave him a tremendous boost. I think Tazz can be pretty good, but can also fall short since he's pretty much stuck throwing only grapples. As long as Tazz can keep his hand up, he'll at least be competitive.

All in all, he seems more like a fun superstar than a competitive one.

Please comment anything I may have forgotten or overlooked, or if you've built Tazz before!

I hope you enjoyed this, and hopefully learned a few things.

Check back next week when I cover Victoria!

Hogtrail - THANK YOU SO MUCH for doing these articles. This is exactly what I need. I feel like I make just about every deck the exact same way so this is sooooo helpful. I feel like I need to give you store credit for helping out so much. Can we request superstars or are you doing them in your own order?

Thank you for the kind words! I do take requests and I usually add them to the next weeks poll. I choose 4 superstars for each poll and have the people on the TCO Discord channel vote for the one they'd like to see the most.

My goal is to spotlight and break down a different superstar every week by going in depth on their cards, referenced cards, and different types of builds for them.

I posted a poll on the TCO discord channel and this week's Superstar Strategy Session is dedicated to <inhale> Gooooooooooldust!

PART ONE
Let's take a look at his specifics:

Quote
Goldust
Starting Hand Size: 5     Superstar Value: 1
Superstar Ability: Whenever you successfully play a maneuver, your opponent must discard 1 card.
VEL

This is almost as straight forward as it gets for superstar abilities. When you successfully play a move, your opponent discards a card. Nice and easy.

A 5 hand size is pretty small, but Goldust having a 1 superstar value allows him to use Underrated Superstar for gain 3 extra cards, and 8 is a pretty good hand size.

Search your Arsenal for any number of Goldust-specific cards, reveal them, and put them in your Backlash; they are now considered Mid-match cards until successfully played or reversed.

Ignore the 'Can only be played...' text on your Goldust-specific maneuvers, and when you have no BASH cards in your Ring, ignore the 'Set-up' text on Butt Bump.

V1

This card is excellent. Alloqing Goldust to get his specific and basically have them all at his disposal at the start of the game. Also, his actions being irreversible makes them much more playable (and oddly, MORE reversible #RawDeal).

But the part I really like about this card is ignoring the “Can only be played...” text on your specific's, and making Butt Bump a MUCH better card.

This is a great card. And Goldust will usually resolve his pre-match last, so this card will be able to have more of an impact. You're likely going to get rid of a Don't Try This At Home, Revolution of the Mind, Don't Be a Douchebag, or perhaps a maneuver your opponent can play on his first turn. This card, like Goldust's ability, is short and sweet-but-effective.

Another card that allows Goldie to search for specific cards. And it makes Electrifying much much better (more on that in a minute). I also love being able to draw 2 cards when my specific non-TMF maneuver is unsuccessfully played.

At first glance this card is pretty good... But then you have to remember that Goldust ignore the “Can only be played text...” which means this maneuver doesn't get it's reversal restriction because the full sentence reads as “can only be played after a successfully played 4D+ maneuver and cannot be reversed from hand or Backlash.”

The reversal part of this card is still playable – a souped up cousin to Unscrupulous S.O.B.

All in all, this is overall a decent card. Good enough to pack,

On it's own, this card isn't too great. However, with your backstage card this becomes very good. As a maneuver, you can just straight up play it without having to worry about a set up card.

But the reversal part of this card is where it's at. “Reverse and maneuver played after a card” is it's modified text – and that is VERY good.

Another pretty good card. This card gives you a reason to not put it into your backlash because of the added reversal restriction, But I would personally want it in my backlash so I could play it as a reversal. Being able to reverse pretty much any recovery card is amazing, especially if you can play it from backlash.

I like this card. Cannot be reversed is always good news. And making your opponent discard (half of) his hand. The only problem with this card is that it's a measly 10D. That will hardly put a dent in your opponent's arsenal – good thing he has another TMF!

Another card that makes you question whether you want it in your backlash or not. I would probably put this in my backlash just so I could have it as a maneuver at my disposal, but I wouldn't argue against leaving it in your arsenal. And when it's successfully played you get to draw 2 cards, or return a key mid-match card to your backlash.

This is a brilliant card. It has those three magic words; “Reverse any card.” The only downside happens if the reversed card is superstar-specific, but that's a balanced effect all things considered. Unfortunately you cannot play this card from your backlash... but that would be TOO good.

Remember that this card got a boost from your Pre-Match card. So now it's F:0, opponent cannot play reversals to it (AND it cannot be reversed anyway), and ignore the Set-Up text!

So basically “If your next card played is a card, double all numbers in it's text.” Think of all the possibilities you have! Maria: Ideal Interviewer makes your opponent bottom 6 cards in hand! Spit at opponent makes him discard 8 cards! Technical Powerbomb becomes a F:0 action that makes opponent discard 8 backlash cards! Candice: Internet Icon allows you to recover 24 cards! The options are aplenty.

Alternatively, you can use it to ignore the “Can only be played text” on a maneuver – like a back splash or another difficult to reverse card. However, I'd rather use the first effect than the second effect.

I like this card, but I don't love it as much as his others. Of course if your opponent is under 12F, then I like this card a lot more, but as is, it's only okay. And it's better when played after Electrifying – but I can think of a lot of cards I'd rather play after Electrifying than this one. I would still pack it, but really only because it cannot be reversed when you're Goldust.

That's it! A pretty good lot of cards for Goldie. Most of them pretty simple, but all of them effective. Moving on.

PART TWO
Non-specific cards that can be helpful for Goldust:

This one is pretty simple, focus on cards that destroy your opponent's hand. Some examples:

Quote
Spit at Opponent
Action: Heel
Can only be played when you have 2 or more cards in your hand.
Discard 1 card and then your opponent discards 4 cards.
F: 4      D: 0

Face the Music
Action: Face
Your opponent discards cards equal to the number of Face cards in your Ring area. The maximum number of cards he discards from this card is 6.
F: 2      D: 0

Maria: Ideal Interviewer
Action: Run-in
Your opponent puts 3 cards from his hand on the bottom of his Arsenal.
Look at his hand.
F: 2      D: 0

Shocking Interference
Action / Reversal: Special: Heel: Run-in
Cannot be packed by The Heat Seekers, and cannot be moved from your Arsenal by A No Show.

As a reversal, reverse any non-unique non-Superstar-specific card and he overturns cards until he overturns 2 reversal cards.
F: 12     D: 0     Unique     Cheater logo     RMS logo

And I've always liked these cards in my Pre-Match for Goldust:

Quote
Trash Talkin' Interview
Pre-match Feud
At the end of the Pre-match phase, your opponent looks at your hand and chooses 1 card. Shuffle the chosen card and any other number of cards into your Arsenal and then draw the same number of cards shuffled in.

Basically any good card that causes your opponent to discard is pretty good for Goldust. We'll cover a few more key cards in...

PART THREE
Specific Build Types

First Idea: Chain

Duh. This is the obvious go-to build for Goldust. Chain is meant to make your opponent discard, and discarding is Goldust M.O. When Goldust plays a chain maneuver, his opponent has to decide whether to discard 2 cards to attempt to reverse, OR if the maneuver is successful, opponent has to discard a card anyway for the superstar ability.

Here's a few cards that Chain Goldust likes in particular:

Quote
Flawless Transition
Mid-match Grapple / Submission: Chain
Cannot be packed by Shelton Benjamin, Test, or New Nexus.
Can only be played with a non-Superstar-specific printed F: 0 Chain maneuver. When played, choose Grapple or Submission; this card is considered to be only the chosen type for the rest of the turn.
Your opponent cannot play Over Sell Maneuver in response; unless both maneuvers are reversed when played, both are successfully played.
F: 0     D: 0     Unique     RMS logo

Panic Grab (D)
Mid-Match Submission
Can only be played when your Fortitude Rating is less than your opponent's Fortitude Rating. Can only be played with a printed F:0 Submission maneuver of printed 4D or less from your hand. He cannot play the card titled Over Sell Maneuver immediately after you play these cards.
Unless both maneuvers are reversed when played, both are considered successfully played and both go into your Ring area. Unless both cards are reversed, your turn continues.
 (Restricted Modification Symbol)
F: 0      D: 3

These two will cause headaches for your opponent, especially when coupled with any of these:

Quote
Ankle Lock
Submission: Chain
When successfully played, your opponent discards 1 card.
Throwback
F: 0      D: 2

Wraparound Wrist Lock (V2)
Submission: Chain
When successfully played, if your next card played this turn is a maneuver, it cannot be reversed from your opponent's Backlash deck.
F: 0      D: 3

Rest Hold
Submission: Chain
Your opponent cannot play the card titled Over Sell Maneuver immediately after you play this card.
When successfully played, choose 1: put 1 Mid-match card from your Ringside pile into your Backlash deck, put 1 non-unique card from your opponent's Ring area into his Ringside pile, or choose 1 non-Pre-match card in his Ring area and when this card is in your Ring area that card has blank text.
F: 0      D: 0

Chain Goldust tends to build itself, so we can move on.

Second Idea: Volley

There are two reason I choose to focus on Volley. The first reason is:

Quote
Managed by Lita
Pre-Match Manager
At the end of the Pre-Match phase, you may put 1 card from your hand on the top of your Arsenal and then search your Arsenal for 1 Volley maneuver, reveal it to your opponent, put it into your hand, and shuffle your Arsenal.
When this card is in your Ring area, if you successfully play a Volley maneuver, you may draw 1 card.
Universally Unique
F: 0      D: 0

This means that every time you successfully play a Volley maneuver, you'll draw a card and your opponent will discard a card. And Volley maneuvers are often full of Stun Value, so you should be able to draw even more cards while your opponent's hand dwindles.

The other reason I'm suggesting a Volley build is the drawback of the trait itself:

(Taken from the OmniFaqs)

“If your opponent plays a Reversal card to reverse your Volley card, during his next turn, the cards he plays can only be maneuvers from his hand or Set-up Action cards and if he doesn’t play a maneuver, you may put 1 Volley card from your Ringside pile into your hand.”

If you're playing Goldust correctly, your opponent will always have limited resources in his hand. This means that if your opponent keeps playing cards to reverse your Volley maneuvers, he won't be able to play any actions to rebuild his hand.

And if you're feeling silly, you can include this card:

Quote
Buried Alive Match
Pre-match Stipulation
Any player that has at least 5 fewer cards in his hand than his opponent, 10 or more Fortitude less than him, and 20 or more cards removed from the game than him loses the game by Pinfall Victory.
Active
Permanent
F: 0      D: 0

Third Idea: Technical

Technical maneuvers are good because if they're successful they allow you to search for another one. And if Goldust can string together a few maneuvers, it means bad things for your opponent.

But the biggest reason I suggest this build is because of...

Quote
A Technical Shoot
Mid-Match Action
Search your Arsenal for 1 card with the word "shoot" or "technical" in the title, reveal it to your opponent, put it into your hand, and shuffle your Arsenal.
When this card is in your Ring area, your maneuvers are +1D and when you successfully play a maneuver with the word "shoot" or "technical" in the title, your opponent discards 1 card.
F: 0      D: 0

The last sentence in particular peaks my interest. Opponent has to discard a card when your Technical or Shoot maneuver is successful.

This card can be is a little difficult to successfully play, but if you do get it to hit (or perhaps 2 or 3 of them, then your opponent will have a BAD day.

Fourth Idea: Foreign Objects

The biggest, and frankly ONLY reason I suggest this is because of:

Quote
<ECW logo> One Night Stand
Pre-match Pay-Per-View Event
When any player successfully plays a Foreign Object maneuver, he may choose 2: draw 1 card, shuffle 1 card from his Ringside pile into his Arsenal, or have his opponent discard 1 card.
Permanent
Unique
F: 0 D: 0

Similar to what I said about Managed by Lita in the Volley section above. If Goldust hits a successful FO, then you can draw 1 and have opponent discard 2 cards.

Combine that card with this one, and you'll have a good time:

Quote
Handcuffed
Strike: Foreign Object: Heel
Your opponent cannot play the card titled Over Sell Maneuver immediately after you play this card.
When reversed from your opponent's hand, he discards 2 cards.
When successfully played, draw up to 3 cards.
When this card is in your Ring area, your opponent discards 1 card when he plays a Face card.
F: 0      D: 0

Fifth Idea: Falls Count Anywhere Match

This idea is purely for a fun deck build:

Quote
Falls Count Anywhere Match
Pre-match Stipulation
Any player wins via Pinfall victory if his Fortitude Rating is greater than his opponent's Fortitude Rating; and if he has 4 cards in his Ring area titled Throw Opponent Out of the Ring, Over the Barricade, Into the Barricade, Over the Top Rope, Tossed Between the Ropes, or Top Rope Toss; and if his opponent has no cards in his hand.
Active
Permanent
F: 0      D: 0

None of the cards listed are really any good, but Goldust could pretty easily hit all of the requirements to win via the pin condition. I had this deck built in classic and it won more games than it should have.

PART FOUR
In Conclusion:

Goldust certainly got a MAJOR boost in virtual, and if he gets on a roll he can be a difficult matchup. However, I still don't feel like Goldust is anywhere near the top tier. I doubt you'd ever see Goldie in a tournament setting.

I feel like Chain is really the way to go with Goldust. Perhaps you can combine a few of the ideas above and do a Chain/Volley build, or maybe even a Chain/FO build could be interesting.

All in all, he seems more like a fun superstar than a competitive one.

Please comment anything I may have forgotten or overlooked, or if you've built Goldust before!

I hope you enjoyed this, and hopefully learned a few things.

Check back next week when I cover Tazz!

Firstly, Los G's are a tag team which means they get to pack Handicap Match – which is a very good card.

Secondly, a 6 hand size and 3 value are pretty middle of the road, but easy enough to inflate.

Finally, their superstar ability is one of my favorites. Combined with Sustained Damage, it allows them to potentially soak up a ton of damage. It also rules out anyone wanting to build them BASH. Also, Eddie Guerrero has some decent cards that I'll continue to cover.

Not a tremendous card. I feel like there are a lot of better Venues to play if you're so inclined. However, if you can actually activate this card without it being reversed, playing a high risk right out of the gate can be effective. I would skip this card, personally.

Another so-so card. It's free to play, but it only makes 2 specific's cheaper (unless your opponent is listed – then it DEFNITLY shouldn't be played when you're Los G's). If you have an extra slot in your pre-match to fill, or if you don't have a better feud to play, then go ahead and pack this card.

Simply put, this is one of the best reversals in the game. F:0, D:2, reverse any non-trademark, draw 2 cards. Knowing this card is in your backlash gives you a lot of freedom to take a few more chances in your pre-match. This card won't make you think twice about throwing 2 or 3 In The Interest of Fairness in your pre-match. And it makes discarding for the chain trait an easier pill to swallow if they throw a Flawless transition at you in the first turn.

This is an interesting card. Of course any card that prevents you from losing is good. But the quirky thing about this card is that it doesn't say “During any turn” - this means that it's able to be put into your ring during the Pre-Match phase. This means there are a few ways to exploit it. Such as using the Linda McMahon feud to give yourself extra pre-match and mid-match slots. Or using Dallas, Texas or Deville, New Jersey without having to worry about being effected by either card. There's one more way to exploit this card, but I'll save that for Part 3. And if the last card your opponent plays isn't permanent, it will go Bye-Bye when this card is put into your ring – even during the pre-match.

That's it for their backlash cards. I think the pre-match cards (other than Lie/Cheat/Steal) are forgetable, but the mid-match cards are all really good. Moving on to the arsenal specifics:

PART TWO
Non-specific cards that can be helpful for Los G's

I've already mentioned these few:

F: 2      D: 0

Here's another few cards that can help them:

Quote
The Abraham Washington Show
Pre-match Event
Cannot be packed by The Heat Seekers.
When you are an Extremist, this card does not take up a Pre-match slot in your Ring and your opponent's Starting Hand Size is -1.
At the end of the Pre-match phase, search your Arsenal for 1 Heel Action, reveal it, put it in your hand, and shuffle.
The first Heel Action played on each of your turns is Multi when you do not have a card with that title in your Ring, and ignore "completely" on his reversal cards played to it.
His Once is Enough cards are +10F for each copy in his Ring.
F: 0     D: 0     Unique

Let the Heeling Begin
Action: Heel
Draw cards equal to the number of Heel cards in your Ring area. The maximum number of cards you draw from this card is 6.
F: 2      D: 0

Grab the Mic
Action: Heel
Draw 1 card. When you are a Tag Team Superstar or you have the card titled Trash Talkin' Interview in your Ring area or Ringside pile, draw 1 additional card.
Your next card played this turn cannot be reversed from your opponent's Backlash deck and his Reversal cards to your next card played this turn are +#F, where # is equal to your Superstar Value +5.
Throwback
F: 1      D: 0

And how about this one:

Quote
The Million Dollar Corporation     (Million Dollar Man Ted DiBiase, IRS, Bam Bam Bigelow, Sid, Nikolai Volkoff logos)
Pre-match Faction
You can pack this card regardless of Superstar.
You are now a Million Dollar Corporation Member.
When you have 10 or more cards removed from the game, your maneuvers without 'reverse' in the text are -2F and +1D, and your non-Superstar-specific actions are -2F.
When your logo is printed on this card, your maneuvers are -2F and +1D for every non-Heat Backlash card removed from the game.
F: 0     D: 0     Unique     Permanent

Los G's can end up with a lot of cards RFG so this card could give them discounted F on their maneuvers and +1D.

Speaking of RFG, if you're going Fan Favorite this card is a must pack:

Quote
Kristal: Broadcast Beauty
Action: Run-in

When this card is in your Ring area or hand, your cards titled Kristal: Broadcast Beauty may replace 1 card listed on <WWE logo> Divas: The Next Generation or <WWE logo> Divas Rule!
Fan Favorite Logo

One of my favorite cards to use with Los G's is:

Quote
San Diego, California
Pre-match Venue

This gives you the opportunity to put 6 face/heel backlash cards in your ringside at the start of the game.

PART THREE
Specific Build Types

First Idea: Back to Basics

Remember how I said there was another card that you could exploit Cheat out of a Pinfall with? Back to Basics is that card. Here's the general idea:

You play B2B, your opponent finds an arsenal full of German Suplexes, Boot Laces, Precision Heymakers, maybe some Eye Rakes, Back Rakes, and Ab Rakes – Just a bunch of really good cards. They they say, “Hey, you lose.” Then you put Cheat out of a Pinfall in your ring.

Sure, you lose We Lie/Cheat/Steal, but you gain either 3 Old School Psychology's, or 3 Old School Beatings (and the bonuses those cards get) while throwing MUCH better maneuvers than B2B has to offer. Worried about your 6 hand size? Ultimo Rachazo is in your backlash. And you could still have a few maneuvers under B2B to help you out in a bind (Backhand Slap comes to mind).

Another thing, if you go Face and have 3 Old School Psych's in your ring, Yo Ese... becomes a MUCH better card. The reason being that if they play Restricted Use... they have to discard 3 cards.

This idea is certainly out there, but that's what these articles are for.

Second Idea: Blindside

The general idea of this build is to be able to sponge a whole lot of damage while being able to throw maneuvers every turn. The blindside maneuvers are always great candidates to be discarded for Sustained Damage as they can be played from ringside. Also, blindside gives you this card:

Quote
Blindsided by the Dangerous Divas
Action: Run-in
Can only be played when you have at least 2 cards in your Ring area with the word “blindside” in the title.
Remove the top 5 cards of your Arsenal from the game and then shuffle up to 10 of your cards that have been removed from the game into your Arsenal.
You may play this card from your Ringside pile.
When played from your Ringside pile, discard 1 card.
Fan Favorite logo
F: 4 D: 0

This, along with Kristal: Broadcast Beauty can help you recover all of your RFG face or heel cards.

Third Idea: Foreign Object

A number of foreign objects are heel, and a few are face. So not only can you use them as regular maneuvers, but you can also remove them from the game for your superstar ability. Handcuffed, Chair Shot, Brass Nuks Shot, and Microphone Cord are all heel and all playable as maneuvers.

And as a foreign object deck, this card is a good pack:

Quote
<ECW logo> One Night Stand

When any player successfully plays a Foreign Object maneuver, he may choose 2: draw 1 card, shuffle 1 card from his Ringside pile into his Arsenal, or have his opponent discard 1 card.

Fourth Idea: Redemption

Remember Redemption?

Los G's can get this card with We Lie/Cheat/Steal, and as the card states – it cannot be reversed when backstage politics is in your ring.

Quote

Your opponent's Starting Hand Size is -1.
When this card is in your Ring area, during your opponent's turn, he may put 1 non-unique card from his Ring area into his Ringside pile and put this card into his Ring area.
When this card is in any Ring area, cards that go to Right to Censor's Ringside pile are removed from the game and their cards and effects cannot modify the Fortitude of their opponent's Reversal cards.
Active
Permanent
F: 0      D: 0

This card is good for Los G's because if opponent puts it in his ring, then you can get rid of a face or heel card in your ring to get Backstage Politics back.

Also, Backstage Politics gives you 3 of these:

Quote
Power Struggle
Mid-match Action / Reversal: Special
As an action, search your Arsenal for 1 Set-up card, reveal it to your opponent, put it into your hand, and shuffle your Arsenal.
As a reversal, can only be played if the card titled Backstage Politics is in your Ring area. Reverse any Strike or Grapple maneuver and end your opponent's turn.
F: 4      D: 0

Combine 3 Power Struggles with Ultimo Rachazo, and all the other normal backlash reversals, the downside of Redemption doesn't hurt you all that much.

Of course, this tactic could be used in conjunction with another build type – so have fun with it!

PART FOUR
In Conclusion:

I think Los G's will always be a good, versatile superstar.  Their superstar ability allows them to survive longer than a lot of other superstars can.

However, I didn't realize how a lot of Eddie Specific pre-match cards are only... okay. That makes me want to build them as a B2B deck.

Please comment anything I may have forgotten or overlooked, or if you've built Los G's before!

I hope you enjoyed this, and hopefully learned a few things.

When he reverses the Activated Card Effect of your Collegiate Champions, draw 3 cards, look at his hand and choose 1 card, he discards the chosen card, and remove 2 cards in his Ringside from the game.
Your Brock Lesnar-specific maneuvers are -7F and cannot be reversed by Unique cards.
Unique
V3

This is a great way to start our strategy session. When your opponent reverses Collegiate Champions (which we will cover in a bit), this card comes out a wreaks havoc. It gives you hand knowledge, the ability to strip a card from that hand, allows you to draw 3, and then you get to remove 2 key cards in his ringside from the game. That alone would make this a good card. But THEN you get discounted specific maneuvers that are also protected from Unique reversals. This is a great card.

Oh, and also notice that this card is revealed when the ACE of Collegiate Champs is reversed, not put into the ringside. So even if the opponent uses Unscrupulous S.O.B., this card can be revealed.

THIS CARD IS F'N NUTS.

Not only do you get Backed by Paul Heyman, not only do your specific maneuvers become playable, but you also get to, each turn, pick up ANY non-hybrid maneuver in your ringside (including uniques) and put it into your hand FOR FREE! Literally every Brock Lesnar deck is built around this card. This card makes discarding for Collegiate Champions, or the chain trait, or any reason not hurt nearly as much. Just keep discarding your non-hybrid maneuvers. You'll further see how killer this card is in part 3. The only thing that kills this card is Hell in a Cell, and that card is rarely packed and easily blanked.

This card is -5F and cannot be blanked.
Your Brock Lesnar-specific Events do not take up a Pre-match slot in your Ring, and your German Suplex cards are F: 0 and the first non-Throwback German Suplex played each turn is Multi.

Another great card. Of course the 5F is thematic (F:5, get it?). It makes your Lesnar specific pre-match free to play, and also gives you free German Suplexes (one of the best maneuvers in the game). This is a perfect card for Brock.

VEL     Errata

This card is not nearly as good as his other pre-match cards. Don't get me wrong, it's good... but compared to the greatness of the others, this one pales in comparison. The -2 hand of this card is easily countered by Flanked by Arena Security, or any number of specific cards that prevent hand manipulation. And the +2 hand is good, but in most Lesnar decks, will probably only make a small difference. But it's free, so there's no reason not to pack it.

Another game changer. Being able to choose any card in your opponent's hand for him to discard is huge. And the lost is mitigated by Brock's ability to pick up maneuvers for free with his Backstage. The only downside to this card is that it isn't permanent, but that would just be greedy. However, if this card  is put into your ringside, you get to use the effect anyway! This card is best used early in games to help push your maneuvers through.

ACE:  When you Promo, you may put this card in your Ringside and then put 1 card not chosen in your hand and up to 1 card not chosen on the bottom of your Arsenal instead.

I'm definitely a Paul Heyman Guys guy. This card allows you to promo: 3 when it's played AND you can also use it's ACE during the pre-match phase (remember, Brock doesn't care about putting non-hybrid maneuvers into his ringside). And being able to constantly return this card to your backlash deck can really pay off for you.

Yes. Just yes. Amazing card that reverses 3 out of 5 maneuver types. 35F is very attainable for Brock, and 30 damage is almost impossible for opponent to survive. I'd say, unless your opponent is Batista or The Natural Disasters, you'll only be playing this as a reversal.

This card is good, but it's almost always reversed. Picking up 2 cards is good, and the +3D is fine, but just remember that this card is easily reversed by Shoot Counter, Volley This, or any other low F action reversal. I honestly wouldn't talk someone out of not even packing this card.

I'd say that Brock's Backstage/Backlash Deck cards put him in an elite category. Not lets jump into the Arsenal specifics.

This is a good way to start. Only from hand is always a great reversal restriction, and Brock Block being unique makes it not susceptible to Carlito Says..., Douchebag, or It's Great to be Back in...

And when Brock's Massive Physique is revealed, this card is F:0 and you can keep picking it up and throwing it until it sticks. Being able to search for Series of Back Breakers is a decent effect (more on that in a second), but unfortunately makes this card reversible by Ax Kick (an underrated card).

Another card that you will most likely be saving as a reversal. In fact, unless i'm absolutely confident my opponent won't be playing grapples or high risks, or it will definitely win me the game, I'm probably never playing this as a maneuver. It's a great reversal though.

On the surface, I like this card. Brock's own personal Kitchen Sink.

However, after my experience at the NAC, this card didn't have enough of an impact to be worth packing. This is probably another card that The Beast Incarnate benefits more from than Brock. Chair Shot (or Chair) are simple to reverse, and German Suplex in Brock Lesnar should always be the throwback version. It may not be popular, but in a competitive deck, leave this one out.

Ah, that's more like it. This Trademark Finisher basically reverses everything F-5 does not (with the exception of TMF's). It also makes opponent discard 2 at random, which is ALWAYS good. But my favorite thing about this card is the ACE. I love being able to discard 2 to be able to basically play it again. And if they use DTTAH, then it goes into your ringside and you can use it again later. Great card.

Another solid card. A beefed up No Chance in Hell that completely reverses non-maneuvers, and allows you to put a move (The Kimora, perhaps...) into your hand. The rest of the text probably doesn't make too much of a difference. However, adding a Shooting Star Press TB wouldn't be a bad idea, and could be funny for multiple reasons (See: Wrestlemania XIX).

This card, however, is great. If successful, it will at very least give you an extra card in your hand (2 if you use Premiere Smackdown Superstar). I like this card. Recovers 10 from ringside, 2 that are RFG, and lets you draw a card. And it makes F-5 much better as a maneuver (even though you'll still probably never play it as one). But again, watch out for Shoot Counter (found that out the hard way).

PHEW... that's a lot of cards.

I think Lesnar has an elite set of specifics. But now lets look at...

PART TWO
Non-specific cards that can be helpful for Brock Lesnar.

First, let's look at the rest of the Paul Heyman Guys support cards.

Quote

Mid-match Action + Action: Run-in
Cannot be packed by Paul Heyman.  Cannot be reversed when you have a card with 'Heyman' in the title in your Ring.
Search your Arsenal and Ringside for Paul Heyman's Shoot Promo, reveal it, put it into your hand, and shuffle; that card is -4F and cannot be reversed.
When your opponent has at least 15 greater Fortitude and he successfully plays a maneuver, you may ignore the 'during your turn' text on your Managed by Paul Heyman and immediately Activate it.

Draw up to 2 cards.
ACE: When this card is in your Ring and your opponent moves a card from his Ringside to any other location without playing a card, remove that card from the game, and then remove this card from the game.
F: 7     D: 0     Unique     Multi

Heyman Interferes
Reversal: Special
Can only be played when you have 2+ cards with 'Heyman' in the title in your Ring and/or Ringside; when you have 4+ cards with 'Heyman' in the title in your Ring, this card is -7F.

Personally, I only packed Paul Heyman's Shoot Promo and I'm a Paul Heyman Guy in my Lesnar. Having said that, all of these cards are good and very packable. Backed by Heyman can put in a late stipulation that can help you win the game (Old School Wrestling Match comes to mind). Managed by Paul Heyman can remove a key arsenal card in your opponent's ring (such as a shoot card to prevent a Shoot Counter being played against you). And Heyman Interferes can help you out in a bind, and is especially helpful if Old School Wrestling Match is in the ring area so opponent have to overturn 6 cards.

But the two cards I decided to pack are because they cannot be reversed when all played together. And Paul Heyman's Shoot Promo is an underrated card. Think of all the mechanics that are used to move cards from ringside to another location without playing a card. This includes card text like Back Body Drop TB, Steel Chain Shot TB, and Kidney Punch, It also can be used when your opponent hides 10th or 5th anniversary (Which I did in the finals against Eric to remove his Divine Intervention from the game), AND it can also be used if your opponent's Superstar Ability allows him to move cards from his ringside. And don't forget that when you play or activate a card with Heyman in the title you get to Promo: 3, and when you activate the Shoot Promo, it goes to the bottom of your arsenal instead of removed from game.

Brock also gets to pack this card:

Quote
No Sell Maneuver
Reversal: Special
Can only be packed by Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Undertaker, Deadman Inc, Kane, Two Man Power Trip, Big Show, Al Snow, Hollywood Hulk Hogan, Brock Lesnar, The Rattlesnake, Big Poppa Pump, Gene Snitsky, and Heidenreich.
When played from your hand, reverse any maneuver and end your opponent's turn. Discard 2 cards.
F: 0      D: 0

And as I said above, and reversal that hits ANY maneuver will always be helpful.

And one card that I think is great for Brock is:

Quote
Smoking Skull Title Belt
Cannot be packed when packing First of All.  At the end of the Pre-match phase, search your Arsenal for 2 different non-Unique maneuvers and reveal them, your opponent chooses 1, put the chosen card into your Ringside and the remaining card into your hand.  When you are Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rattlesnake, or Revolution Stone Cold Steve Austin you start the game regardless of Superstar Value or card effects.
Superstar Value +2     Universally Unique

Brock doesn't care which maneuver his opponent puts in the ringside because he's just going to pick it up during his turn anyway. I usually fetched Pump kick and German Suplex TB.

We'll cover a few more key cards in...

PART THREE
Specific Build Types

First Idea: Backed by Vickie

This seems to be the most popular Brock build, in fact, out of 12 people at the NAC, there were 2 Lesnar's that were backed by Vickie.

First things first:

Luckily for Brock, all of the Smackdown logo'd maneuvers worth playing are non-hybrid, so he can pick them up and play them with ease. Key Lock in particular is good due to it being multi.

This deck build also lends itself to Premiere Smackdown Superstar, which can really help inflate your hand size.

Second Idea: Volley

Remembering that Brock can pick up any non-hybrid maneuver during each of his turns means that if your opponent is stuck in the volley lock, Brock could potentially pick up 2 volley cards from ringside each turn. And one could use the ACE of Collegiate Champs to strip your opponent of maneuvers to play during his turn.

Volley maneuvers also lend themselves to higher stun values, so a volley Brock should always have a large hand size.

One volley maneuver I would like to point out is:

Quote

Cold-cocked
Strike: Volley: 6
If this card is not successfully played, put up to 2 other Volley cards from your Ringside pile into your hand.
"I haven't seen JBL this mad since the last time the market crashed." - Tazz
SV: 3
F: 10      D: 12

Brock can utterly abuse this card, putting your opponent in the terrible position of either having to keep trying to reverse it, or just let it go through and giving Brock more fortitude.

Third Idea: Chain

Every chain maneuver is non-hybrid, so Brock is free to pick them up all willy-nilly. And if your opponent is trying to reverse your maneuvers – they'll have to discard for the chain trait each time. Allowing Brock to get a nice hand advantage over his opponent.

A nice thing that chain Brock can do is that if opponent reverses your chain maneuver, you can ACE unbreakable chain, pick the move back up and throw it again.

Fourth Idea: Foreign Object

Like chain, pretty much every foreign object is non-hybrid. But the one I want to focus on is...

Quote
Everything and the Kitchen Sink
Strike: Foreign Object: Face
When played, choose up to 2 Foreign Object maneuvers in your Ringside pile not titled Everything and the Kitchen Sink. Those maneuvers are considered played from your hand and are played in the order of your choice after this card. Resolve each card's effects and damage before the next card is considered played. After all of these cards have been played, if any have been reversed, your turn ends.
SV: 1
F: 14       D: 6

Brock being able to pick this up and throw 3 moves at once is a GREAT tool to have at your expense. And Backed by Paul Heyman can put first blood match into your ring for a cheap victory condition.

Another fun trick to do with FO Brock (or any Brock for that matter) involves this card:

Quote
Table
Strike: Foreign Object
This card is also considered to be titled Table! Table! Table! for card effects.
Cannot be reversed by Elbow to the Face, Revolution of the Mind, or Sidewalk Slam.
When playing an Extreme of printed 5D or greater, Grapple, Throw, High Risk, Trademark or Trademark Finisher without 'Maintain' in the text, you may choose this card until that maneuver finishes resolving.
ACE: When this card is chosen, put this card into your Ringside and then your successfully played maneuver is +8D and +1 Stun Value.
F: 8     D: 6     SV: 1     Unique

This is already a difficult maneuver to reverse, and if you use the ACE of this card on a card like German Suplex TB, Brock can pick Table up with his backstage and throw it again. Rinse and repeat and you can do some good damage to your opponent. (Trick can also be done with Chair and Ladder, but Table is more fun).

Fifth Idea: BASH

This one is pretty simple:

BROCK SMASH!

So every arsenal BASH maneuver is non-hybrid, so Brock can freely pick them up at will. And the low F maneuvers are multi, so opponent will have a more difficult time trying to reverse them. Oh, and you can also use this card:

Quote
BASH Down the Walls!
Pre-match Event
When your BASH maneuver is unsuccessful, search your Arsenal for up to # BASH maneuvers with different titles (where # is equal to 2 minus the number of reversals played to that card), reveal them, put them in your hand, and shuffle. When you do, you cannot play cards for the rest of your turn.
F: 0     D: 0     Unique     Permanent     RMS logo

This can help Brock build up his hand so he can discard for Collegiate Champions.

PART FOUR
In Conclusion:

I think Brock is one of the best superstars in Raw Deal. He has elite card support, a superstar ability that can shut down a lot of players, and an ability to keep throwing hard to reverse maneuvers every turn. I think that Brock can be a good superstar for beginners and  a GREAT superstar for more experienced players.

I posted my NAC decklist here: http://teamcanadaonline.net///index.php/topic,18684.0.html

In that post I articulate some of my strategies.

Please comment anything I may have forgotten or overlooked, or if you've built Brock Lesnar before!

I hope you enjoyed this, and hopefully learned a few things.

Play all Pre-Match. You should have about 13 cards in your opening hand. Ruthless Agression is a Showtime preventer and almost guarantees that I'll have 2 full turns in a row to start the game (thanks to backstage shenanigans)

Smoking Skull Belt usually fetches me Pump Kick and (most likely) a German Suplex. Don't worry about which card goes into the ringside because The Baddest Man on the Planet is absolutely INSANE. Being able to freely pick up any non-hybrid maneuver is so good. It makes discarding have much less of an impact.

Discard maneuvers for Collegiate Champions and throw maneuvers that are difficult to reverse.

Takeaways from the NAC:

I placed 2nd in the NAC with this deck, going 4-2 overall.

I lost to Samoa Joe and Ryback.
I won against Cesaro, The Ultimate Warrior, The Second Coming, and Samoa Joe (in the semifinals).

At no point at all did I feel like I wasnt in control of any game I was playing, including the games I lost. This deck can beat players quickly, or can grind out wins.

My losses were due to bad play on my end. Against Samoa Joe I forgot that Shoot Counter was a card and played a recovery card - not smart.

Against Ryback in the finals, I stupidly played Simply the Best and ate a Ryback specific 15 damage reversal which pinned me. Had I just said "go" I'm positive I would have won the game (having 35+F, Kimora in hand, and F-5 in backlash).

What I would change:

I would take out Simply The Best, Eat Sleep Conquer..., Chair, and Beatdown By The Beast. I never played Eat Sleep..., Simply the Best was never successful, and the two moves aren't as good as 2 more Face Stretches would have been (or 2 other better maneuvers)

I would add some strike Reversals, probably Backslides. It's very easy to get 20F with this deck before opponent even has a turn. I was also lucky not to run into a High Risk deck due to the lack of reversals - so add a few of those.

I'm very happy with this build and my performance at the NAC.

Kofi Kingston
Starting Hand Size: 7     Superstar Value: 2
Superstar Ability:  Once during each of your turns, when your maneuver is unsuccessful, you may discard 1 card and overturn 2 cards, and your turn does not end; the next card you play this turn can only be a High Risk maneuver, but replace the "after a successfully played" text on that High Risk with "after an unsuccessfully played", and when that maneuver is successfully played and damage is resolved, end your turn.
Your maneuvers are +1 Stun Value.
You can pack High-Flying Style.

Unorthodox Style of Wrestling
Pre-match Event
When this card is in your Ring area, whenever you play a High Risk maneuver after a Submission maneuver, it cannot be reversed from your opponent's hand.
F: 0      D: 0

If Kofi unsuccessfully plays a submission, uses his ability, then plays a high risk, would that high risk be protected by Unorthodox?

My goal is to spotlight and break down a different superstar every week by going in depth on their cards, referenced cards, and different types of builds for them.

I posted a poll on the TCO discord channel and this week's superstar this strategy session is dedicated to the current WWE Champ Kofi Kingston!

PART ONE
Let's take a look at his specifics:

Kofi Kingston

Is 7 the most popular hand size? Someone should look into that. Anyway, Kofi has a 7 hand size and a 2 value. I like these stats because that means his hand can be easily bumped up to double digits with an Underrated Superstar.

I also like his Superstar Ability. Being able to continue your turn is always good, and being able to throw high risks easier is also always good. And he can pack High Flying Style, which is a great card.

But my favorite part is adding +1 stun to all of your maneuvers. This can help offset the discarding you'll be doing.

Backstage Card
During your turn when you have 11+ lower Fortitude or you are a Stable, you may put this card from your Backstage into your Ring, draw 1 card, put 1 card from Ringside on the bottom of your Arsenal, and your opponent discards 1 random card.

Good card that can hopefully help you start a comeback. Random discard is a super powerful tool. And if you're in dire straights, 1F is enough to give you Undermine the Competition – however, most high risk decks run Smackdown branded.

This card and your Awesome Pyro cards do not take up Pre-Match slots in your Ring, and when you draw cards for Awesome Pyro, draw 1 additional card.
ACE: During your turn, you may put this card into your Ringside, and then put your hand at the bottom of your Arsenal and draw the same number of cards +3; when your opponent reverses this effect, he discards 2 cards.

And here's the text of Awesome Pyro:

Pre-match Event
At the end of the Pre-match phase, put this card into your Ringside pile and you may shuffle your hand into your Arsenal and draw # cards, where # is equal to the number of cards shuffled in.
When played by Kane, Chris Jericho, Chyna, Kurt Angle, The Dudleyz Boyz, Buh Buh Ray Dudley, D-Von Dudley, Christian, Booker T, The Big Freak'n Machine, or Rey Mysterio draw 1 additional card.

I like this card, but I don't love it. +3 hand is nice, but it has a cost of 4 pre-match cards. Those cards not taking up Pre-Match slots is nice for the effects of Flanked by Arena Security. I prefer the ACE part of this card. As long as it isn't reversed, you get to boost and cycle your hand. Add McMahonism and you can really set your hand up for success.

Mid-match High Risk + High Risk
When you are Kofi Kingston, this card is -10F.  When you have lower Fortitude, this card is -1F for each of your maneuvers in your Ringside or removed from the game.
Can only be played after a successfully played maneuver.  Cannot be reversed from Backlash.
Draw up to 4 cards and put cards from your hand on the bottom of your Arsenal equal to the cards you drew -2.

Another specific card that can help you fight from behind. A potentially F:0 D:10 multi high risk that's easily playable can really swing things in your favor. And if it's successfully, it's another card that gives you drawing options.

Mid-match Action
Your opponent cannot respond to this card.
Your Springboard cards cannot be reversed.
ACE:  Once during each of your turns, you may discard 1 card and then ignore the "Can only be played..." text on your Springboard or From the Top Rope cards; when he reverses this effect, he discards 1 random card.
F: 0     D: 0     Unique     Permanent
V3

Cannot be responded to cards are always welcome in high risk decks.

I personally have never packed Springboard in my near 20 years of playing this game. I feel like there are enough easy to play high risks that I don't need to play a strike as one. However, From the top Rope is still a good card that's worth packing.

Mid-match Action + Action
This card is -1F for each reversal in your opponent's Ring, and when this card would go to your Ringside, put it in your Backlash instead.
Draw 1 card, shuffle up to 3 cards from Ringside into your Arsenal, and he overturns 2 cards.
ACE: During your turn you may overturn 2 cards, and then put this card in your Backlash and end your turn.
F: 5     D: 0     Unique     Multi     RMS logo
VHS2

I really like this card in a high risk build. A unique multi action is relatively difficult to reverse, and then you can follow it up with a Technical Stomp or Technical Splash in the Corner.

As for the text of the card, another draw ability, and you get to recover 3. And how much fun would it be to pin your opponent by clapping your hands?

Let's look at his arsenal specifics:

After you use your Ability, you may put this card from your Ringside into your hand.

This is a very good card that can bounce it's way back to your hand until it's successful. And you can essential play it twice per turn until it does stick. Amazing card.

When you are a Stable, this card requires 3 reversals to reverse instead of 2; when you are not, this card is -3F.
When you are Kofi Kingston, this card is also considered a High Risk for your Ability.
When you have lower fortitude, ignore 'completely' in reversals and reversal effects to this card.
F: 6     D: 8     Unique     Multi

This card is very powerful. And, to go with a reoccurring theme, is made even better when playing from behind. Also, since you're Kofi, it's playable after using your SSA.

High Risk / Action
When you are Kofi Kingston, this card is Multi.
As a maneuver, can only be played after a successfully played 5D+ maneuver.
As an action, this card is F: 0, shuffle this card and up to 2 cards from your Ringside into your Arsenal and draw up to 1 card.
F: 15     D: 10     SV: 2     Unique
V3

I greatly prefer the action part of this card over the maneuver part. Sure, a multi high risk is nice, but a Multi action that lets you recover and draw, and then you can play it again later in the game for as many times as you want... well that's just better to me.

Trademark Finisher / Reversal: Strike

As a reversal, reverse any Strike; when you are Kofi Kingston, you may also reverse any Superstar-specific card.
F: 30      D: 20     SV: 3     Unique

This is a great TMF. Likely being saved as a (VERY GOOD) reversal, it could also end games as a maneuver when played after a high risk. But being able to reverse and Superstar Specific card is incredible.

Reversal: Special
Reverse any maneuver and put up to 1 card from your Ringside into your hand.
When this card is in your Ring and your opponent reverses your Kofi Kingston-specific card, he chooses 1 card from hand and puts it on the bottom of his Arsenal; when you have lower Fortitude, the card is randomly chosen instead.
F: 0     D: 0     Unique

“Reverse any maneuver” are 3 of my favorite words in Raw Deal. This card is one of the best reversals in the game. F:0 makes it playable turn 1, allows you to pick up a card from ringside, and makes your opponent have to think twice about reversing your specifics. Alternatively, you could keep recycling this card and reverse on the overturn. Great card.

ANOTHER cannot be responded to card! I like this card, it fills your hand with maneuvers, OR it strips your opponent of fortitude. Win/Win.

This is getting RIDICUCLOUS. Another card your opponent cannot respond to. OR it completely reverses any non-maneuver! And the ACE of it isn't too shabby either. And it's permanent. This card has like 5 or 6 different effects that alone would be worth packing – together it becomes a great card.

The Power of Positivity

This is an interesting card. Able to help you recover key cards over and over, or (at F:0), reverse a bunch of cards on the overturn. I really like it.

PART TWO
Now let's look at a few non-specific cards that can be helpful for Kofi.

First, High-Flying Style is a must pack:

Quote
High-Flying Style
Pre-match Event
Can only be packed by X-Pac, Jeff Hardy, Matt Hardy, Lita, Tajiri, Hurricane, Rey Mysterio, MNM, X-treme Diva, Mexicools, Chavo Guerrero, Funaki, Kenny, Revolution Sabu, Owen Hart, The Blue Blazer, Latino Cheat, and Johnny Nitro.
Your Strike maneuvers with 'rana' in the title are now High Risk maneuvers instead, and your opponent's non-unique reversals to your High Risk maneuvers deal no damage.  Your From the Top Rope and From the Middle Turnbuckle cards cannot be reversed.
F: 0     D: 0     Unique     Permanent

And here's a card that every Kofi deck should have at least 1 of:

Quote
Stun the Crowd
Pre-match Event
When this card is in your Ring area, your cards with Stun Value are +1D and +1 Stun Value.
F: 0      D: 0

Considering all of Kofi's maneuvers have stun value, this card not on;y adds a damage to them, but the additional stun value means you'll be drawing at least 2 if your maneuver is reversed from arsenal (and not by the last card).

Speaking of stun:

Quote
You'll Really Be Stunned
Mid-match Action
Can only be played after a successfully played card with Stun Value.
When this card is in your Ring area, if you successfully play a card with Stun Value, your opponent overturns 3 cards and if he reverses a successfully played card with Stun Value, you may put this card into your Ringside pile and continue your turn.
¶ ¶ ¶ (Activated Card Effect Symbol)
Active
F: 1      D: 0

This card can add some serious milling to your gameplan, Having opponent overturn 3 cards each time you successfully play a maneuver can really add up.

And this card interacts well with Kofi's ability:

Quote
Blindside Elbow Drop
High Risk
Can only be played after a successfully played maneuver or a Superstar-specific card.
You may play this card from your Ringside pile.
When played from your Ringside pile, this card is +3D. Discard 2 cards.
SV: 1
F: 1 D: 5

You can use it as the discard portion of your ability, then play it from ringside. You'll be discarding more cards, but all that stun value you'll be drawing will offset that.

Another card that can help with your ability is:

Quote
Back Body Drop
Strike / Reversal: Special
As a maneuver, this card is -5F and can only be played after the card titled Irish Whip or Throw Into the Corner Turnbuckle.
As a reversal, reverse any card with the word "atomic," "bomb," or "driver" in the title and end your opponent's turn.
When this card is in your Ringside pile, during your turn you may put this card on the bottom of your Arsenal and then put 1 Set-up card from your Ringside pile into your hand.
Throwback
F: 10      D: 12

This can help you get those set ups into your hand.

PART THREE
Specific Build Types

First Idea: Chain

What's the one thing chain maneuvers lack? Stun Value. And Kofi gives all of his maneuvers +1 Stun. And even more if you add a Stun the Crowd or two. This can really help give you a big hand advantage over your opponent.

But what else about chain can help Kofi? How about making your opponent discard cards to reverse your chain maneuver, THEN using your superstar ability to play a high risk against your opponent's depleted hand. Sounds pretty good, right? You could even use this card:

Quote
Unbreakable Chain
Pre-match Event
When this card is in your Ring area, if your opponent reverses a Chain card, you may put this card into your Ringside pile, put up to 3 Chain cards from your Ringside pile on the bottom of your Arsenal, and continue your turn.
¶ ¶ ¶ (Activated Card Effect Symbol)
F: 0      D: 0

This way you can play a high risk even if they reverse from arsenal (and after you draw all of your precious stun).

Here's another card that can work well with your ability:

Quote
Leaping DDT
Grapple: Chain
When this card is in your Ringside pile, if you successfully play a maneuver, you may put this card on the bottom of your Arsenal.
SV: 1
F: 8 D: 10

Second Idea: Volley

What's the one thing that volley maneuvers don't lack? Stun Value. And Kofi loves him some stun.

Also, notice that Kofi's superstar ability doesn't specify HOW the maneuver needs to be unsuccessful, so he can even use it if opponent reversed via the volley trait.

And volley contains a few cards that interact well with the ringside pile:

Quote
Thrust Knee Lift
Strike + Strike: Volley: 8
Cannot be packed by Female Superstars.
When this card is in your Ringside pile, during your turn you may put this card on the bottom of your Arsenal and then randomly remove 2 cards in your opponent’s Ringside pile from the game.
Cheater logo
Multi
SV: 1
F: 9 D: 8

Thrust Kick
Strike: Volley: 8
When this card is in your Ringside pile, if you successfully play a Volley maneuver, you may put this card into your hand.
Cheater Logo
SV: 2
F: 7      D: 8

And my favorite volley card for Kofi:

Quote
Cold-cocked
Strike: Volley: 6
If this card is not successfully played, put up to 2 other Volley cards from your Ringside pile into your hand.
"I haven't seen JBL this mad since the last time the market crashed." - Tazz
SV: 3
F: 10      D: 12

This card, when unsuccessful, allows Kofi to pick up 2 other volley maneuvers in his ringside, and then using his ability to continue his turn. And there are a few volley high risks he can pick up, such as:

Quote
Double Axe Handle
High Risk: Volley: 6
Can only be played after a successfully played 3D or greater maneuver.
"Folks, that Edge sure has pinpoint accuracy - ouch!" - Jim Ross
Throwback
SV: 2
F: 3      D: 8

Spinning Leg Drop
High Risk: Volley: 8
Can be packed by The Big Show.
When your Fortitude Rating is less than your opponent's Fortitude Rating, this card is -2F.
Can only be played after a successfully played 2D or greater maneuver.
SV: 1
F: 4      D: 9

Missile Dropkick
High Risk: Volley: 10 / Action
As a maneuver, can only be played after a successfully played 3D or greater maneuver or, if this is a Tag Team format match, when this is the first card played of your turn and you have just been "tagged" into the match.
As an action, this card is -15F and -15D, put this card on the bottom of your Arsenal and then put 1 Volley maneuver from your Ringside pile into your hand.
Throwback
SV: 2
F: 15      D: 15

Third Idea: Blindside

This one is pretty self explanatory. Being able to play maneuvers from your ringside works well with Kofi's ability. The cost for blindside maneuvers is often a bit high, but nothing impossible to overcome.

PART FOUR
In Conclusion:

I've never built a Kofi Kingston deck, but this article has intrigued me. I think the best way to build him would be a Chain/Volley combo deck. Both of those traits have pretty good benefits for him. And now that Kofi is currently champ, I'm sure the interest in building him will be going up.

Please comment anything I may have forgotten or overlooked, or if you've built Kofi before!

I hope you enjoyed this, and hopefully learned a few things.

I'm taking next week off due to my attending the Raw Deal North American Championship!
