Superstar Spotlight: DX
« on: July 26, 2017, 05:18:09 AM »
Alright guys, I've noticed a few new people joining TCO. So I'll give a brief explanation how this segment works. Twice a week I will be posting superstars by request. So if you are stumped on a deck, can't make it work or just curious simply message myself or Drew with your request.
These are done in order of request. So if it takes a week or so please be patient. We promise we will get to your request as fast as possible.

Please keep those requests coming. Today's is another 'request' in DX!!!!!

1.)  How viable is this superstar?
2.)  Is there a Superstar Specific Card that you'd like to spotlight?
3.)  How have you built said superstar?  How did it work out?
4.)  How well does the Superstar fare in whichever format you built them in be it VC/VAA/NXT/VR/Non-Virtual
5.)  Final Thoughts on this Superstar?

AND

6.) Since this Superstar is a Legacy one (in that he was in the game before Virtual) can you elaborate a little on how Virtual has changed this Superstar?

Jesus Christ that's a LOT of cards.....and that doesn't even count the revo one  :o :o :o :o

They are the classic deckbuilder's challenge.....fit all this crap in there, have a cohesive plan and work with it

But when it works.....yikes!!!!

1.)  How viable is this superstar?

Eh - as implied, they're a deckbuilder's challenge, and despite having quantity in cards, there are some weaknesses inherent in the set.  The ability is non-existent after the Pre-Match Phase, and because of the large number of specifics they're really tough to fit everything you want in there.

2.)  Is there a Superstar Specific Card that you'd like to spotlight?

Uhhh?

3.)  How have you built said superstar?  How did it work out?

No

4.)  How well does the Superstar fare in whichever format you built them in be it VC/VAA/NXT/VR/Non-Virtual

N/A

5.)  Final Thoughts on this Superstar?

In some cases, less is more.  I mean, if your goal is to play HHH and HBK specifics all day long, then this is the deck for you, but unless the opponent does positively nothing and doesn't nail the Grapple With Your Faith or Bring the Hammer Down stopper, then sure they'll roll face.  But any disruption whatsoever - San Diego, 3 x McCools, 3MW, Summer of Slam TB, discard/hand reduction, redwall, or even losing Handicap Match TB - and you're SOL.  I'm not sure if they were ever good, but they certainly haven't aged well in Virtual.

6.) Since this Superstar is a Legacy one (in that he was in the game before Virtual) can you elaborate a little on how Virtual has changed this Superstar?

For the specifics, it's mostly ancillary changes.  DX Chops is a good recovery card, but Are You Ready (basically an anti-KDB card that has slight benefits in other matchups) hasn't aged well.
Also, Reinforcements does very little to take up a valuable mid-match slot in your Ring.

Outside of that, it's not ALL bad - they did get some Total Teamwork and being tied to Heel/Cheater due to their specifics gives them access to the good V4 Heel/Cheater cards.  But they're still SO vulnerable to corruption, especially in the opening of the game.

DX -- one of my favorites from back in the day. I've built a couple of different versions of them, one from really far back in the day and a little bit more of a current version.

1. How Viable is this superstar?

I'd say they are somewhat viable, but every deck has to have a focus. One thing that I learned form playing DX is how to make superstar-specific cuts to a deck. It sounds odd saying that now, but a common mistake I made as a beginner was trying to stuff every superstar-specific that I could into a deck.

2. Superstar specific spotlight:

I'll give you two. The Icon...The Showstopper... The Main Event is an awesome pre-match search card and in general lets you increase the hand size so it's pretty good. Cerebral Spray is the other card that a viable DX build is built around using lumberjack matches and summer slam and other goodies.

3. Have I built it?

I've actually built DX twice. The first time I built it was right after the release of Revolution 3. I played it around over the ropes into the revolution trademarks, which were incredibly difficult to reverse during that era. I top 4'd a World Championship Qualifierback when then those were a thing.

The other version I've built uses the effects of Cerebral Spray and Lumberjack match to throw hard-to-reverse puny strikes for massive damage.

Basically, you use this sort of pre-match (although this isn't the whole thing) with Pulled some strings in your backstage area.

Are you Ready? (Allegiance)
Cerebral Spray (Venue)
A Feud Card (I think I used the BASH one to increase my pre-match)
Lumberjack Match (Stipulation)
Summer slam (so you can play another copy of Lumberjack Match)
Lumberjack Match
Icon...etc...

Then what you do is use the effect of cerebral spray, discard a card, then play poke so your opponent overturns lots of cards for your poke. Essentially, you can throw a poke that makes your opponent overturn ten and then do the same thing with other annoying strikes.

That one worked pretty well also, all things considered.

4. It definitely did better in all axxess IMO because you can pile up different cards that are really hard to reverse if you can get there.

5. Are you ready made the lumberjack deck actually viable, so it provided another way to build it.

1.)  How viable is this superstar?
Very. You can built them any ways you wanted. A almost guarantee 85% 4F (Pump Kick) do wonders.

2.)  Is there a Superstar Specific Card that you'd like to spotlight?
Are You Ready?
To be able to play The Game Is Back, and The Game is Here to Stay! as the last card. Just Wow.

I suck in reading.

3.)  How have you built said superstar?  How did it work out?
Yup. Built them Cheater, FF, Heel, Face, BASH, Volley, Chain, Heat... ETC. Some work out, some just sucks.

4.)  How well does the Superstar fare in whichever format you built them in be it VC/VAA/NXT/VR/Non-Virtual
Got 2nd place in a local tournament using my friend's DX deck.

5.)  Final Thoughts on this Superstar?
To be able to pack all cards with HHH & Shawn Michaels logos... WOW.

AND

6.) Since this Superstar is a Legacy one (in that he was in the game before Virtual) can you elaborate a little on how Virtual has changed this Superstar?
To be able to play The Game Is Back, and The Game is Here to Stay! as the last card. Just Wow. (COPIED)
