Superstar Spotlight: Andre the Giant
« on: February 08, 2017, 08:57:15 AM »
Standing in today for Drew.
Please keep those requests coming. Today's is another 'request' in Andre The Giant.

1.)  How viable is this superstar?
2.)  Is there a Superstar Specific Card that you'd like to spotlight?
3.)  How have you built said superstar?  How did it work out?
4.)  How well does the Superstar fare in whichever format you built them in be it VC/VAA/NXT/VR/Non-Virtual
5.)  Final Thoughts on this Superstar?

AND

6.) Since this Superstar is a Legacy one (in that he was in the game before Virtual) can you elaborate a little on how Virtual has changed this Superstar?

Yay, someone I know a bit better than Victoria

1.)  How viable is this superstar?
100 cards = hard to kill.....but 100 cards = hard to get the key cards you need when you need them, screams heat since he can pack extra cards to run up the heat pile (but no Backfire which hurts)....also no Cow, Sustained or Undermine to help him if/when he gets in trouble....a VERY ability-reliant deck since his only other really good card is his backstage (which was also kicked back to the back, rightfully so, in Virtual), but his ability can control the pace of the game, and Facing each other as God intended can still be a game-changer against a massive handsize guy), legend support and Heenan family goodies certainly help too.....just NEVER pack the Move of Doom, I've beaten every Andre I've face on that mistake alone

2.)  Is there a Superstar Specific Card that you'd like to spotlight?

Giant Head Butt
Strike + Strike + Strike
This card requires 3 reversals to be reversed, instead of 2.
When successfully played, randomly discard 1 card. If that card’s Fortitude is an odd number, your opponent may search his Arsenal for 1 card, put it in his hand, and shuffle his Arsenal; if that card’s Fortitude has an even number, you may search your Arsenal for 1 card, put it in your hand, and shuffle your Arsenal.
F: 0     D: 10     SV: 2     Unique     Multi

Still one of the best starting move superstar specifics in the game....bar none.....given it's not a lock he gets his hands on it....but if he can....BAM

3.)  How have you built said superstar?  How did it work out?

I never did, I tended to like the 8th Wonder remake, but I've dealt with Blindside/Heat Andre before...it's a pain.....

4.)  How well does the Superstar fare in whichever format you built them in be it VC/VAA/NXT/VR/Non-Virtual

In PURE Classic he's a monster...one of the reasons pure classic needed an overhaul.....
VC he's solid, same with nXt since he cares not about a backlash deck
He could be VERY good in VAA with the R: Andre support and the space to pack certain tech cards in AA that would be helpful without sacrificing his game plan for them

5.)  Final Thoughts on this Superstar?

I'll give him a solid B, not an "oh crap I'm screwed" if you sit across from him....but you know you're in for some work to pull this out....

AND

6.) Since this Superstar is a Legacy one (in that he was in the game before Virtual) can you elaborate a little on how Virtual has changed this Superstar?

It brought him back to the pack for sure, but it also gave him some good support cards (Heenan Family)....and a good remake in 8th Wonder and Revo: Andre too
